Not ROFR thread - general discussion

Not sure if we can call ourselves super fans but we do love it more than most people we know 🩷🧡💛💚 😍 My husband and I were both CPs (many moons ago! 🤣) so WDW definitely has a very special place in our hearts 💕. I would get tear up from time to time walking down main street, all the memories just rush through then I get emotional...I'm such a cry baby!😆

We went to D23 for thr first time last year and it was a good experience but not sure if we feel the need to do again for another few years? That's why I can't say we are super fans, we aren't that dedicated!🤣 All the celebrities that showed up at D23 were pretty amazing! But that shopping though...I tried just once and couldn't get it, then I just gave up 🤣

Btw, I don't have any medical stuff...I think that's a different poster in the other DVC thread debating buying in? We already own at BLT and BRV haha😁
I was a CM at DL in fantasyland many moons ago too! So many memories and friends made that im still friends with today. It was the most fun job ive ever had!

Ok yes I was talking to you and the other poster that's on the other thread, I got confused 🤣🤣

I wish they had D23 expo every year, I cant get enough! We did a lot of shopping on the showroom floor but after the first day we gave up on the virtual queue stores. Which was actually probably good because I definetely would have fomo shopped and spent way more money if I would have gotten in!

I was surprised to see some of the dolls still leftover on the last day, the dolls are usually the first to go. I dont think it probably worked out for them as well as they expected the virtual queue format like that i would be surprised if they dont change it next time!

I think many of us here keep one unusual (i.e. eccentric) item in our owner's lockers. The best one I've heard about is a shower head and wrench, to undo some of the low-flow heads at the resort. I don't keep that in a locker. But I do have something else. So I'm just throwing this out there in case anyone's interested - I keep a small grinder and a Breville bambino espresso maker in my owners locker.

I'm OK with the coffee drinks at Riviera. I'm kinda OK with the coffee drinks in the lobby at the Contemporary. But beyond that, a decent latte is a real weak link in offerings at most of the DVC locations. (And honestly, I'd be mostly OK with Starbucks--but most espresso drinks at DVC areas aren't even up to Starbucks levels.)

This was a few years back, just post-pandemic, when I was sitting in Roaring Fork, drinking one of their push-button, automated lattes, and I thought: how much would it be to get a decent-ish espresso maker. And then, on Amazon, the Bambino Plusses were 30% off. (I think this was right before Mother's Day, a few years back, when all of the Breville stuff was on sale. But the sale, as I recall, lasted through most of June.). And then I did the math.

On an average day at Disney I would buy one to two lattes, most of which weren't great. These are around $6 each. So $6 some days, $12 on others. So I put it at $9 on average.

Then I multiplied it out by a very conservative estimate of 40 days per year on property. So $360 on lattes in DVC quick serve areas.

Then I looked at the hard costs: the Bambino, as best I recall, was $320. I found a cocinare portable (re-charable) grinder for $150. I had plenty of extra espresso tools at home. (I've been at this for a while.). So hard costs were $470. The espresso maker and grinder should make it at least four years. so $117 per year over four years. And maybe they last longer, the grinder in particular. I had the espresso maker shipped from Amazon to Disney for my next trip--again to CCV--and I carried the grinder in my carry-on luggage as it's powered by a rechargeable lithium battery. It came with a carrying case (it's made for travel) and easily fit in my backpack.

Then there's the cost of a second owner's locker, which is $180 per year with unlimited visits. (Also the second locker holds a lot more than the Bambino and grinder.). The Bambino and grinder take up maybe 55% or 60% of the locker. So I can now leave a little more gear in Florida--umbrella, rain jacket, etc.

Anyway $118 plus $180 = $298 per year. Add in milk (from the convenience store in the lobby) plus beans from the roasters near my house and it's very close to $360 for superior coffee per year. (I keep waiting to be stopped at airport security as flying with coffee beans can be a bit suspicious, but it's never happened.). And I can make lattes in my room. And drink it on the balcony without going to the lobby.

I've since also purchased a storage bag for the espresso maker, which makes packing up at the end of a trip easier.

This is probably not for everyone, but I think it's fabulous, especially for days that I mostly hang around the resort.
Daannnng that is some dedication for coffee! :worship::worship: We don't have owners lockers but if we did, you bet my husband will put a nespresso machine in there first thing! 🤣 He's less picky than me on quality, but he only drinks shots, drip or maybe americano. He will try lattes or mochas if it's something interesting that I wanna try, like we will share otherwise you'll never catch him drinking those. If we are desperate for a boost while in the parks, we'll get a Joffrey nitro (if it's available), otherwise we tend to stay away from Disney coffee in general. But I will try some of those that were mentioned by others.

Check this portable nespresso contraption out; I keep seeing ads for it on Amazon but it looks awesome: outin.com

I packed my Brita before putting water in the coffee maker, which means I’m drinking Joffrey’s on departure day. Feels worse than departure day normally does for that reason.😆

Tangentially DVC related: 7 year old was very sad to be leaving last night and there were lots of tears, especially as she knows she might have to skip 2026 (spouse and I are considering an adult only trip, plus we may go to Aulani as a family) and possibly 2027 (we might go to Taiwan as a family instead as some family is likely moving there).

Being able to tell her “hey, I bought these points and they are use it or lose it for the next 30+ years so yeah, we will definitely keep coming back here” is helpful at times.😆

Yep that’s a good tactic with kids. My 10 year old announced that she had the ‘Disney depression’ last time we left. Genuine tears for a few days after we got home…. 😥

Thoughts on our Poly stay at the older studios: I liked it. Toured the new PIT: It’s gorgeous. Hotel workers were nice. I like the Ceremonial House, but don’t like walking outside to get to everything.

Our room had issues on checking in (smoke smell, door off hinges, one of the electrical covers was off), but they were quick to help with fixes, which was nice.

But I didn’t LOVE anything about Polynesian. Pool is nice. Lots of stuff to like. But it isn’t as convenient as I wish it was. And it feels like you have to fight the other guests to access amenities like on site restaurants, Pineapple Lanai, etc. Long waits and long lines, and you are really stuck there without many options.

We walked to Bay Lake too, and while the walk isn’t beautiful, it feels like it would be so easy to stay there. It felt relaxing, and I like that! It seemed like food access would be super easy there. Amenities are great, and the pool has water and is wet, which is enough for my kids. Nothing felt overly crowded. It feels easy and comfortable, which is my vacation goal.

I really don’t regret my resale BLT buy, and would actually prefer any direct purchases I may make to be there.

We also saw Wilderness Lodge from the outside via Mears. I am quite sure I LOVE it. If Boulder Ridge had the longer expiry, I’d buy there. Copper Creek doesn’t work for us due to 2 sleeping surfaces up until 2 bedrooms.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Poly. Since we didnt stay there it was hard to say if our feelings were 100% valid points. But it seems that we would've likely felt exactly as you did.

GRRR on the CCV sleeping capacity, I really wish they had a way to fix this, but it seems they do not.

I feel like im going to feel the same about poly

One last non-DVC reflection: I think Hollywood and Vine is underrated on food. The food was actually pretty decent, and there was enough variety to please most. The characters were great too. Service could have been better but it wasn’t terrible.

I won’t do a Fantasmic! package again though: it costs more than a normal meal and you don’t get any DVC or AP discounts, and then if you are rained out you just paid extra for nothing (we were rained out…crazy, as the weather appeared like it would be great that evening earlier in the day!).

I think that's similar to how my husband and I feel about the Poly. We like it and the laidback vibe can be nice but not sure about staying there. However, we'll try it once for sure (want to try all DVC resorts at least once). The pool we always see a lot of people, lobby and everywhere else just seems like there are a lot of people all the time. There isn't really a buffer for resort guests. I mean, we are also guilty of that ourselves because we almost always go to Poly for a meal or Pineapple Lanai😂

I have been affected by addonitis. My first contract last August was fully loaded and we swiftly got APs and will have done 5 trips in 14 months by the end of this year. Good news is I'm about to send a perfect fit second contract to ROFR. Details on the ROFR thread once the documents are signed.

It's nice to have this group to celebrate with when friends and family don't always understand the excitement this brings.

If we ever go after anyone that spend their precious money on sports events or season tickets, I'm sure they will stop saying "going to Disney again?" 😂
I love this! I already own 450 points at BLT which people think is crazy and we'll be at 575 after this purchase. I don't want to tell any of my friends! But, we like doing two bedrooms with friends and family and an extra trip or two which really uses the points! I know people who spend 1000s yearly on sports and I never say anything.

Try thousands on ONE event for ONE ticket, like superbowl. I don't ever say anything to people who are willing to drop that type of money, because that's their joy, their money, their business. Unless you come to me to borrow money to pay bills after you went to the superbowl, then I'll have a whole lot to say about that!
