Not ROFR thread - general discussion

I've never done any character dining. Not sure if it's worth the price when my kid doesn't care about characters at all. I was eyeballing the new one at Storytellers though....
Forget the kids, they are amazing!! Lol but seriously Goofys kitchen during Halloween time was probably my favorite as far as interaction goes.

They played hide and seek with the kids after most diners left and there was no rush! I also have fond memories at Plaza inn breakfast with my wife's parents visiting from Mexico for the first time. Donald and Daisy really put on a show!

Has anyone done the princess breakfast at Napa Rose?
I have done it twice. It is one of my favorites. The reason being is because it's great for adults and children. They have some rarer princesses (Raya was there when we went).

The food was upper scale for a buffett. I remember a delicious pasta and not just your typical mickey waffles, sausage and eggs, but thoughtful add ins that made it more delicious.

On top of that, the presentation and explanations behind each little dessert they bring is so cute and the themeing is on point. The muffins were so good I mayy have sneaked one in a napkin for my wife who couldnt make it 😬😬

Although it is a princess dining, they are inclusive of both princes and princesses. The children we went with got a goody bag full of merch at the end, I believe our princess got a nice looking necklace as the highlight among other things and our prince got a gift bag with knight themed merchandise and a sword being the highlight.

The cast members keep track of which princesses you've met and call you back to see each one after youve settled in so it is guaranteed you will meet them. There was a princess waiting to greet us before it even started as we were waiting (snow white) who was amazing and a piano player playing tunes as we waited to be seated.

It was worth every penny and I am finally bringing my wife when we stay in July. It will be in the trillium room because of the refurb, which probably won't have all the feels, but I would go again and again.

Here are some food pictures to add to my Napa rose review.

Those pink rose muffins are the ones im talking about and you can see the creamy pasta too 😋

For us, Christmas is the best time to go because the princesses are dressed more elaborately.

And yes those are Mickey Churro Waffles with dulce de Leche dipping sauce 😍

Im still after that DL Marquee ring.
I own 2 of the best Dooneys I think they ever made *pops my collar* so I wouldn't likely ever buy another. I did eye those Dooney ears though
I have a mickey and Minnie sledding white Christmas Doonie bag and its one of my favorites. Gets major compliments whenever I bust it out for the holidays ❄️

Today is our anniversary (we did not stay at Westin or GCH for those who are curious, we ended up at the beach in Santa Monica) and I looked at DH and said “am I correct not to expect any presents?” And he just froze. He recovered and asked “do you want to walk over to the Louis Vuitton at the promenade” and I was like “nah dawg, I’ve got my own anniversary present all picked out…and it’s BCV points, you should thank me!” 🤣
Happy Anniversary! 😀

I inquired about the Napa Rose closure when I was booking the breakfast adventure, they told me they were renovating the entire restaurant.

I think there's concept art of the new look online but dont quote me on that, I might be thinking of Victoria and Alberts

Thank you for the detailed review! It always sounded wonderful. I like the multiple courses and that some items are brought family style in addition to buffet options. It's also nice that they treat the princes and princesses well.

I am sure it will still be fun in July and it's another experience.

You're welcome! The Disney nerd in me is excited to be able to dine in the trillium room without having to attend a wedding 🤣🤣

We don't really do gifts at all. Never really have. These days we basically say our vacations are our gifts to each other. Or things we buy for the house (just bought a bunch of new furniture, for example....happy anniversary to us!)

We are actually no specific gift people too. No Christmas, Birthday, Valentines or Anniversary gifts. Has always worked well for us.

I thought I was doing pretty good when I got my wife to just have a Birthday Week and not a Birthday Month…. 🤣

Your significant others must be much better salespeople than me….

We've never been gift-y people. One year, before we had our son, we just wrapped up stuff we bought for ourselves so we would have gifts on Christmas morning. 🤣 The problem is that we both just tend to buy things we want throughout the year. So if my husband wants a specific guitar, for example, and he sees it's being sold for a good price...I just tell him to buy it and it will be his "birthday gift." I tend to buy myself little things I want throughout the year (I never really want anything "big"...these days it's mostly e-books and collectable items) so those are my gifts. 😁

He got me some terrible gifts very early on. Then he still says he bought me a gift our 1 year of being together and I lost it, I have no recollection of this gift (sunglasses). Im not sure exactly how we started the no gift thing, it sort of just happened and we were both okay with it. I wont say that Im still not spoiled rotten though.

Ah…. the old buy crappy gifts so that they just want you to stop waisting money trick…..

I believe that’s called Weaponized Incompetence 🤣

My issue is that I was buying little Tiffany’s pendant necklaces for her when we were dating…. I was trained well by the ladies in North Dallas in High School…. or poorly… depending on your point of view…..

I much prefer experiences than material gifts
Early in sobriety, I lived in a "temporary" 1BR grad-student-special. I started out subletting it for six months, and ended up living there for three years. I left my fancy house with my clothes, a small cache of kitchen equipment, and not much else. A few trips to Ikea later (table, chairs, bed, etc.) and I was set. I realized very quickly that I didn't really need much stuff at all.

Well, except for a well-stocked kitchen. I don't mess around there.

I was thinking about that when we finished Your Friends and Neighbors the other night; Barney nailed it on Episode 8's titular soliliquy.
