If in-laws are staying at Deluxe and we visit them during their stay, can the kids use the pool??

This is a very touchy subject and most likely this thread will go about 3 pages deep filled with flames and then be closed.

The rules say that pools are for resort guests only. That means that only the registered guests with Resort ID's can swim at that pool unless the person is a DVC owner. DVC owners can pool hop at any pool except Storm Along Bay.

You are not supposed to use the pool unless you are registered in the room. If it's a room only reservation you could have your in-laws add the kids to their room at no extra charge.

Putting on flame suit on lmao. But like one said have their grandparents put them on their ressies maybe. Also might want to check at front desk & ask all they can do is say no. No harm in this as you asked first. But generally the answer is no.

I don't see what the problem is as long as the in-laws are at the pool too! :confused3 If your talking about more than 3 children, then no I don't think that's okay, but just a couple of children don't see a problem with that.

Is there anyway for you to stay at the same resort? I suppose asking the front desk can't hurt...

Pools are for the guests of that particular resort..not the guests of the guests. There is signage to that effect at all the pools, not just the deluxe resort pools. You can ask if it's okay...based on how many are at the pool, you may get permission to swim there.
I have to laugh at the 'if it's just a couple of children..' comment. So...grandma and grandpa have their 2 or 3 grandkids visit them at the pool and swim. But, so do some other grannies/grampies and some aunts/uncles and some friends of the family...pretty soon, the majority of those kids in the pool are 'visiting' the resort, not staying there. Those who stay at the deluxe resorts tend to get a bit peeved when people ask if it's okay for their two kids to enjoy the pool, even though not staying there. Especially those pools that are close to the parks..within walking distance (or monorail)..GF, Polynesian, BW, YC/BC (they try there but it generally doesn't work since you should have a wristband).

The only thing is the Polynesian and Grand Floridian don't give wrist bands like at the Yacht Club and Beach Club. Although I think they should give them at the three Monorail Resorts based on their location to the Magic Kingdom, because it does seem to work at the Yacht Club & Beach Club.

Back in 92 we went to WDW with our inlaws for a week...we stayed off site they stayed at the CBR. We met them at CBR every morning (we had a pass for our car) and would leave our car there and take the bus with them. We would eat at their food court and swim in their pools. That was a week in July, no one ever said BOO to us.

Nowadays you cannot do that, there are way too many crowds and the CMs check room keys by the pool (so I heard although I have never seen them do this).

People will tell you yes you can do that or no you cannot do that but lets face it, you will do what you want to do and hope no one says a word.

I agree, posts like this can stir the pot and for anyone wanting Disers to justify what you know you should not do, please do not put posts out there...there is no need for "sparring" on this happy site!

Thanks for the replies.
We would never consider going to the pool if Grandma and Grandpa were not there. We have done this at other hotels where they stay but have read some posts and know it can be touchy at Disney.

In 2002, we stayed at POR and my sis couldn't get a room there and had to stay at CSR. We could not switch because we needed AB for the 5 person occupancy. But the kids wanted to swim together. CMs assured us as long as we were with the resort guests, we wouldn't have a problem. We were totally unaware that this was not an acceptable thing to do.

Just thought I would get some opinions so I can warn the in-laws that joining them at the pool would be a no-no.

The best advise is to ask when you get there. If they say yes great, if they say no be prepared to have a plan b.

Unfortunately though TKL, there are people who would and have abused this, that is one of the difficulties in bending the rules. I have seen guest try and sneak entire childrens parties into pool areas. I just think Disneyworld in general works a lot better if every one follows the rules.

Not a judgement, just an opinion: Would you consider having everyone spend a day at one of the water parks?

It's just that those "couple of children" add up when other guests do the same. Now the pool is really crowded and difficult for the guests who paid to stay there.

DVC members are not allowed to pool hop at at SAB, Uzima pool (AKL) AND any of the leisure pools at YC/BC/BCV (which includes the Dunes Cove pool at the BCV). So it's more than just SAB and Uzima pool.

I stayed at the Poly last September. I was sitting at a table near the pool watching my kids swim. Just after lunch, a huge group of kids arrived in matching bathing suits and pretty much took over the pool. It was like "Caddy Appreciation Day" at Bushwood. I never saw anyone's credentials being checked.

if you go to the front desk and ask they will most likely say yes, when we went to AKL last year my parents came to visit and we took them to the front desk and asked if they could take my dd2 to the pool while we went to dinner...no problem they said...they even told them where to grab towels....when the babysitters at wdw come to sit with the kids in your room they go to the pools with the kids also with no problems...do I mind ?no...I have never been when it was so packed that there was no room left in the pool...and as far as chairs go if your in the pool your not needing a chair..ASK THE RESORT ,that will be your answer

This is funny, I just posted this same story on another thread just a few minutes ago. We were at the WL in Jan '05. I was in the laundry room doing laundry, while my son had my GD at the pool. The lifeguards checked room keys. My son and GD didn't have theirs, so he came to get me in the laundry room. I walked out with him and even though I confirmed they were with me, the life guard made a comment that even though I was staying at the resort that didn't necessarily mean they were. I had to go upstairs to get their room keys. When I got back my son and GD were excited and said I missed all the fireworks. Apparently some families from FW were pool hopping and when confronted, one of the dad's got very irate and demanded a manager. When the manager stood behind the life guards, the dad started yelling, 'that as much as he was paying for his WDW vacation he and his family should be allowed to swim wherever they d--mn well pleased'. They were escorted out.

If I was the OP I would just have the in laws register the kids in their rooms. It wouldn't cost anything to add them and that would save any possible chance of trouble (unless the kids happened to speak to someone in the pool and make a comment about this pool being better than the pool at their resort:rotfl2: ).
