Not Good with Numbers

I got the DDP for our upcoming trip of 6nights/7days. My brain just freezes when I see numbers. And yes, I'm always late :rotfl: I need a little help with this.

I think I read we can roll unused credits over each day and we have until midnight of the day we check out to use them. Am I correct in thinking that the unused Snack and QS credits from the day we arrive will be available to use later in the trip?

There are 5 of us going (3 adults paid DDP and 2 kids with fee DDP). We would have 90 credits in total to work with (30 each for snack, QS and TS).

I have booked dinners at Teppan Edo, Kona, Boma, R&C, The Wave (1 Credit)& California Grill (2 credits). I also have CM's one morning and The Wave for breakfast on our last day. Those are 1 TS credits as well right? So, I'm up to 9 TS credits in total. Maybe I should swap one of the TS for QS, probably The Wave breakfast for the Contempo Cafe. Then I'm only OOP for CM's and cheapest dinner, which I think is the R&C, for about $160.00. Does this make sense?

I see there is a free DDP deal starting today. Is it possible to swap my DDP for the free offer now that everything is booked and paid for? Doesn't seem to make sense to upgrade to a deluxe DDP as it appears to cost $600 to do this.

TIA

In order to be eligible for the free dining, your tickets and room must be purchased with Disney as a package. You can always call and ask if it's available to switch for your dates.

Now, to your numbers....I'm not sure where you got the 90 number.

Your twins do not have a dining plan...they don't get any credits. So that leaves 3 adults with 6 nights of credits. That means each of you get 6 TS, 6 CS, and 6 snacks total. You can use them whenever/however you want, and they are available to use when you check in.

So, yes, you will need to pay OOP or cancel 3 of those TS meals.

If your twins are big eaters, I would keep as many buffets as you can since they do get to eat "free" off your plate even at the buffets.

I take it you're going with the kids stay and play free discount?
Free Dining may or may not be a better deal for your family. I'm not very familiar with the stay and play discount, so I'm not sure how much you're saving. With 3 Disney adults and 2 kids (9 year olds?), the "savings" for Free Dining would be around $1000, but you would pay rack rate for your room.

You can call and attempt to change discounts, but if your trip is less than 45 days away they will likely charge you a change fee which could negate any difference in discount.

In general, it may be best to save your pay out of pocket meals for the end of your trip, because you may find that you cancel one of your ADRs and end up with extra credits, or you could keep the Wave ADR and cancel it at the last minute if you've already run out of credits by then.

Otherwise, your calculations seem fine.

Can someone please answer this part of her question..I was wondering the same thing! You all are SO helpful!! Thanks! :goodvibes

I am so sorry! I misread your post and thought you said two kids "free" and couldn't figure out how they were free, but now I see in your siggy that they were born in 2002. Forgive me! Now I know where you got the 90 from. Still need to decide on your extras, though.

thenewleyweds The credits can be used any time you want after you check in until midnight of the day you check out. So, if you want to have 2 TS on one day, you can do that. If you want to save all your snacks until the last day, you can do that. Use them however you want.

In terms of picking which meals to pay oop--
Breakfast at the Wave will not cost much more than a Qs meal.

And while California Grill is not cheap, it probably is not the best use of 2 credits. On a per credit basis, it is cheaper than your other meals.

Thanks again! This site has been wonderful so far.

Dh says he finally wants to get involved and work the numbers. Thanks goodness! He's got a way better head for math than I do. All I have to do is piece together sample dinners w/prices. I think I can handle that :lmao:

I had no luck getting through to DW on the phone earlier. The phone system hung up on me. I'll try again later, but I think it may be best to just stick with the deal I have already.

The hotel you are staying really comes into play as to which is a better "deal". With the value resorts, free dining is almost always better. You have to crunch numbers for the rest. So, it looks like you have 3 adults and 2 children for 6 nights; correct? As another poster pointed out, you have until midnight of your check out day to use those credits. However, you cannot use more credits than people. For example, you have 3 adults and 2 children so you cannot go into a QS and get enough meals for 4 adults and 3 children, even if you had the credts to use. Does that make sense? Also, to get the free dining you must get at least 1 day park tickets for every member of your party. The way I understand it is that you already have free tickets for your two children and they have the dining plan. I am thinking your current deal is probably the better one. Good luck with your decision.
