Not attending pin events this year...

I know I'm probably not the only one, but I have a real problem with Disney charging to attend the events and 'buy the right' to purchase pins. I guess they thought people were making too much money off of the secondary market or something. I won't be attending any events... I can hardly afford this habit, and to add $50 for us (hubby and I) to just attend? I don't think so.

Of course, they know people will pay, anyways. My MIL is planning to come to two of them and counting. She can't understand why I don't want to / can't afford to attend.

Grrr...

Dar  ... off to sell her pins...

Dar -

I hear what you are saying, but remember that for the $25 Princess Ball fee you not only get the opportunity to purchase the pins but you also receive
  • Low LE (1000 maybe) Walt & Tink pin
  • Event logo lanyard
  • Unique event medallion
  • Continental breakfast
  • 2nd chance oppotunity to purchase remaining event pins
Those things add up to close to $25, don'tcha think?

At least this is the way I look at it. YMMV.

Nancy, I suppose you are right about that, but I guess just not having the money to spare this year is rough. I may be around some of the events, just not buying. It still rubs me the wrong way.

Dar, I understand. My first reaction was Disney is now charging me for the right to buy pins. Something's wrong with this picture :)!

I don't think Disney's inetention is to charge for allowing people to buy the pins. I think their intention is to deter people from bringing their kids, parents neighbors and anyone else they can scare up between the car and the door, just to buy multiples of the LE's so that they can sell them on ebay and take advantsge of genuine collectors like us. I regularly see the same people sell 15 - 20 of the same Limited Edition pins on ebay at one time.

I am really sorry that you wont be attending the events, and understand that this economy does not lend itself to having an extra $25 or $50 to attend these events. The free pin and lanyard and the other perks, which includes not having to camp out overnight just to buy my set, really are worth the extra money. But, given the economy, I will not be doing as many as I did last year, but I do think I will be enjoying them more.

I hope you get to make it to at least one event this year. :)

I also think Disney took this route to discourage people from camping overnight. You have to admit that it was getting a little ridiculous towards the end there. If you weren't in the parking lot by 11 PM, you were out of the running to purchase a LE 1,000.

Even though money is tight, I do think this is a good idea. JMHO

If I was there, I would do it. Like it was mentioned, paying the $ would beat the heck out of a mad mob scene or having people load up on a dozen or more pins of a low LE.
And consider this -- If you are a Sam's Club member, you pay every year just to be able to buy from them (not even including a discount)! Imagine Penney's or Sears trying to pull that stunt.

One of the MGM cast members from the store..said she heard that there will not be a fee
to attend that one..so keep your fingers crossed..

Also heard that the AK one will be after the park closes, so I imagine that there will be some kind of
fee for that one..

We have done the "stand in line all night" only to see some people w/ their friends, neighbors
babies in strollers, and lots of little ones running around, and each one of them gets 2 pins..

So this may be their way of getting control..and expensive one thought..

We aren't going to the breakfast, just the event.. but we probably try to stay on property
to save the early morning drive..

Dar,
I feel the same way, and I have to cut down on these events this year. That $25 just doesn't add into the budget.
But I shouldn't talk yet, I am paying to take the cruise and with everyone going the chances of me getting the LE 375 is slim to none. I know I will be very angry if I am unable to get the pins they are offering for the cruise. I think since it is a pin "event" they should have made the edition size a little larger.
And from what I hear, we won't even be getting the lanyard and fancy pin that comes with it like the rest of the events are going to have for the $25 fee. Peggie
