To start talking about Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, we must first begin with the costumes. Our goal was to avail ourselves of the spacious bathrooms at the Grand Floridian after we were finished with tea, and change into our Halloween finery. It worked out quite well, actually.
I know I kept these a pretty big secret with the exception of myself and my husband. After realizing we were going to meet so many DISers on this trip, it was impossible for him not dress as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Impossible. More on that later.
First, I want to talk to you about how far my mother is willing to go for her grandson. Because once my DS decided that he was going to be WallE, he also decided that my mom needed to be Eve.
Go ahead. Say it with me. Ohhhh, boy. Or rather, Waaahhh-alll-eeee.
I spent weeks looking online trying to figure out whether or not to purchase or make these costumes. In the end, being the creative artsy folk that we are, we decided to make them. And I must, say I was highly pleased with the results.
We're big fans of the t-shirt transfer idea in general, and I knew from Heidi's trip report that you could also use those transfers on baseball hats, as she'd made some awesome Super Sleuth costumes before. Heidi, you keep coming up in my trip reports with your great ideas! It's totally fitting, too, given that I'm leading up to our meet.
The photos of them in costume didn't come out so great, so I'm going to see if I can find the costumes and post a separate photo for you guys.
Anyway, my son was thrilled with his costume, and we made my mom's something that we knew she'd be comfortable in, and although there may have been some initial reluctance, she really ended up loving it. As they went trick or treating together that evening, they got a lot of praise for their costumes, and I know that really tickled her. I'm glad that my DS and my Mom had that special costume duo on our last trip. Means so much more now.
Back to myself and my husband. Typically, I wear the gold Elizabeth dress, but I just wasn't feeling that this year. I wanted more mobility, and not to have to wear heels. Yes, heels. So I decided I was going to be a wench. I was able to piece together my outfit by just purchasing regular clothing from various department stores and one particular online retailer. The white shirt and skirt came from Kohl's, and the bodice was from...well, ahem. I'll let your minds wander. Anyway, the thing that was so awesome about my costume was that because it was "real clothing" it fit great and was so comfortable. I believe I wore flip flops, as well. They weren't period shoes, but hey, I was happy!
Now, to my husband. Let's just say that he and I have got his costume and getting him ready down to a science. Let's also mention, for those of you who don't know, that yes, it does take him the longest to get ready out of all of us.

Therefore, we send him in to get dressed first, and afterwards, I help him with the finishing touches.
Which brings us to the title of my chapter.
The weirdest thing, by far, that I've ever done in the lobby of the Grand Floridian:
my husband's hair.
Yes. His hair. And there are no wigs in the TK clan. My DH has always had long, gorgeous hair that he'll typically keep back in a ponytail. Pretty much he's had long hair every since I met him, and even before that. It's a style, folks. Pirate.

Anyway, there's a particular way to style it to get the bandana just right, all the Jack Sparrow beads in, to have that Captain Jack Sparrow look. And the easiest place to do it was in one of the cushy armchairs, right in the right hand corner of the lobby.
There was a gentleman sitting directly across from my husband while I was doing this, watching with quite a bit of interest, and I could only imagine what he was thinking.
I have to tell you, once my DH is ready and the transformation is complete, it's absolutely amazing how much he resembles Jack Sparrow.
And how ably he can imitate. We'll leave that for the upcoming chapters. But for now, I'll leave you with a little image. I know I don't post a lot of photos, but I have to post this one.
There are a lot of reasons that I married my husband. Primarily that I'm absolutely crazy in love with him, and that he always knows how to make me laugh. I knew him well before the Pirates movies even came out, so rest assured, it's not just the Jack Sparrow thing.
But let me tell you, any man who can look like he does in costume and in real life, and who will dip you on command for the benefit of the first Photopass photographer you come across...well, let's just say, he's a keeper.
I can remember the moment distinctly.
I looked at my DH / Jack Sparrow adoringly, and said, "Dip me."
And he didn't even hesitate.
