Not All Treasure Is Silver And Gold, Mate - *Update 9-17* P60

I thoroughly enjoyed this dinner, and it wasn't just about the food, and the great service, although that certainly does help. It was about having all these people, this core family group with me in my favorite happy place. Mom, Nana, Dad, and FIL are the people that always come to every holiday. They're the people that will bend over backwards to help you, that will do whatever they can to ensure your happiness. Of course we have all our little family dramas, what family doesn't? But if you're in the thick of it, these are the people who have got your back.

So glad you enjoyed the dinner and have that happy memory to look back on. I got a warm fuzzy feeling just reading about it! :goodvibes

I posted this on another thread as well, so for those of you that this is a repeat, I apologize.

Hey, guys? DH and I are having a really hard time agreeing on a name for the little bean. We like unusual names, and our five year old son has an Italian first name, Irish middle name.

I'm just wondering, if any of you are willing to share your favorite boy names? Even if it's something you wouldn't name your child, but you just like, or that you've come across?

I am so sick of looking at baby books and online sites and not being able to agree on anything.

Again, only if you want to. Thanks!

I want! I'll noodle it a bit and post some ideas. Any "rules" like a name that can't or can be shortened? so many syllables?

Not so much restrictions, but I'll give you and example. My son's name is shorter (with shorter syllables) so there's less chance of people making a nickname out of it. Now, he does have a nickname, but it's something that we only use at home. At school, he goes by his full name.

Now, if we went with an Italian name like Giovanni, because it is commonly known to mean John, you run the risk of people just translating it, or trying to shorten it. Know what I mean?

And there's one long Italian name in particular that I absolutely love
(other than the one DH and I can't agree on), but I'm not sure I can saddle a kiddo with it. My son's name is 6 letters, so pretty easy to spell. The name I like is 12 letters. LOL

Well since I know what your 5yo's name is...I would suggest that you name the bean with something more than a common American name. KWIM? I'm thinking a Irish first name with Gaelic spelling would be nice. Heidi would be a cool middle name don't ya think?? lol

Boys names are so hard. My husband doesn't like anything "trendy", so that left alot out. The one I loved, but he hated, was Brayden. You could spell it in a more Irish way, like Braeden, and go with an Italian middle name. If you love a long name, you can always use it for the middle name. That way you'll get to use it every time he is naughty, but no one else will have to.
I could never pick a name until my babies were born, anyway. I always went in with it narrowed done to a couple of choices, but I had to get a good look at them first, and make sure it fit!
Have fun, I'm sure you'll get some great suggestions!!:goodvibes

I like the idea of something Irish or Gaellic as well for the first name.

A few ideas...

Kieran
Keegan
Kennan
Kaden/Caden
Kellen
Gavin
Liam
Ronan
Rourke

I love Ian but that might be too common for you guys.

If you really want to go out there you could do

Darragh
Oisin
Callam
Niall
Kian

I like Eion (pronounced Owen). I suggest that to you......but I wanted to name Danica.... "Siobhan" ....but I knew no one would hardly ever pronounce or spell it correctly.

Siobhan is one of my favorite Irish names for a girl, but you are right, Heidi, no one would have been able to pronounce it!

I actually found one last night that I really like that is sort of biblical and a little more common, so right now we're at a stalemate. :lmao:

That's true, I never thought about using my big long name as a middle name. Thank you!

See, the funny thing is, I was so sure (the first time around) that because we were having a son, he would look just like my husband. So we went with the full on Italian name, and we loved it.

Imagine my surprise when he was born, and there were reddish glints in his hair.

And then as he got a couple days older, it became apparent that he looked just like my Irish side of the family. Beautiful red auburn hair and my fair skin. He is the most Irish looking Italian named boy you'll ever see. But, for us, it fits, you know?

So part of me is thinking that this time, I really need to see the little bean before I make a decision, but I'm also reminded of the fact that they can change as they grow older. For example, my dad (Italian) started out blond and his hair turned black when he got older.

You just never know. That's why I'm so big on meanings of names, which I forgot to mention. I feel it's important to have a name that means something good.

I like the idea of something Irish or Gaellic as well for the first name.

Kian

I bolded my favorites there. I have to tell you, I absolutely love Kian, pronounced Key-an. My husband is having a hard time wrapping his mind around a Gaelic / Irish name. It should be pretty apparent (since I slipped and let it be known that people call me Kat) that my name begins with a K, so I thought that would be kind of cool to have a little boy with a K name.

I like Eion (pronounced Owen). I suggest that to you......but I wanted to name Danica.... "Siobhan" ....but I knew no one would hardly ever pronounce or spell it correctly.

Remind me how to pronounce that again. I know it's not like you spell it.

Abu
Aladdin
Casey
Dash
Doc, Sleepy, Sneezy, Grumpy, etc.
Figaro
Gaston
Iago
Maurice (but it reminds me of a Steve Miller Band song)
Milo
Oliver
Sebastian
Zazu
Eric (as in Prince Eric)
Phillip (as in Prince Phillip)
Charming (as in Prince...well, you get the idea)
Or, of course, there's always Mickey

Hey, just trying to be helpful here. We never once had to consider boy names -- all three daughters' names were picked out and ready before they were born. One did actually come from a country music song, but that's another story...

:dance3:

Actually, I had a very dear friend (college professor) named Maurice who passed away a few years ago, so Maurice is actually in the running as a middle name.

And barring the association with an adorable red crab ;) I do like the name Sebastian. :thumbsup2

Siobhan is one of my favorite Irish names for a girl, but you are right, Heidi, no one would have been able to pronounce it!

I worked with a Siobhan once and she did have all kinds of issues. It is a lovely name! My brother just named his daughter Josephine Gladys Muira and we all assumed they were actually going to call the baby Muira as he is big on the Gaelic thing but it appears they are toggling between JoJo and Josie.

Kian is also Cian in Gaelic (versus the K version being Irish) but I like the K better. Kian (or Gavin for that matter) would both work well with your last name.

I think big names, as well as family names, make lovely middle names!

Meanings are interesting. Evan means " young warrior"...I should have taken note of that I think!

Eric got..."forever or alone, ruler" hmmn. :goodvibes

Isaac is a fabulous name as well

I actually found one last night that I really like that is sort of biblical and a little more common, so right now we're at a stalemate. :lmao:

Siobhan is pronounced "shivvon". I had a friend in high school named Siobhan, and was she a wild child! Still is, I think, but she was always a sweetie!
Be careful with the biblical names - my son's name is Matthew (not giving away too much info there, there's only 3 million of them in my town alone), and it means "gift from God". Well he certainly thinks he is! :upsidedow

How about a name from around here?

Kanat- meaning wings

Malik- arabic for prince

Timur- meaning strong or strength

Arman- Dream as in goal or ambition

all 'a's are pronounced as in father

Rahat- meaning comfort or relaxing

Hi, everyone.

Do I still have readers? :lmao:

Thank you if you're all still subscribed. I won't lie, things have been a little bit tough around here lately. Without getting too much into it, I've had a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions that are making it more and more difficult to work / run errands / be mom TK without pain. I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, and I'll be discussing with them what options I have.

I've gotten a belly band, because this little baby is all in front. I feel like I'm carrying a basketball, and the pull on my lower back is incredible. If I wear the band, it's great, but as soon as I take it off, oh my goodness.

I've also been in a little bit of a Disney funk.

Mid April is typically when I'd start planning our September trip, and as you all know, this year, there is no September trip. Not only because we're having a baby at the end of July, but because my five year old is starting kindergarten. I actually went online yesterday and priced out a May trip just to see what it would cost, but couldn't bring myself to book anything, given my issues with the fake contractions.

I do plan to continue this trip report, and I'm thinking that what I'll do is write the whole thing in the next week or so, in installments on my laptop, and then do a regular posting schedule for you guys. Since I'm doing my favorite moments, this shouldn't be too hard to finish, it's just difficult nowadays to find the time to write when I'm not completely wiped out from everything else.

Again, thanks for sticking around.

TK--I'm still here, and I know you've been having a difficult time. Not because you've said anything, but because you are pregnant!

Take care of yourself, and take your time. We'll still be here.

Thank you so much. I think one of the hardest things for me is not realizing how much I actually normally do, compared to what I feel comfortable doing now. I was a busy little bee! LOL

Hi TK! Hope you're feeling well.
Just caught up on on the name talk. A parent of one of my students is going through the same thing. My student's name is Siobhan and her sister's name is Fiona. Mom is Irish and dad is Morroccan. So, each child has an Irish first name and a Morroccan middle name. Mom is due mid-July and they've been having family meetings trying to come up with a name. My student keeps me posted.

Is your son excited about starting kindergarten?
