I've used FP+, and not too long ago. It wasn't in the early stages of testing when only select resort guests had it, or even when all onsite was allowed use, but no offsite guests. I used it after Legacy FP had been completely removed, so I think my experience counts (probably more so than many proponents for FP). Not that i think you have to be in the park to form an opinion on it, but since many think that's a prerequisite... I am not a fan.
I think it's great that many love it. I'm glad it works for you (REALLY!), but I found it to be less than desirable, and I think a higher percentage agree with me than all out, full out fans of it.
Who I think it works for:
- Those who have never been, so anything is better than nothing.
- Those without kids or very young (under 4) kids
- Those with small traveling parties (4 or less, even with kids)
- Those that never used FP anyhow
- Those whose traveling parties have close interests
Why it doesn't work for us:
- It is limiting to 3 per day when without zigzagging through the park, we often had 5-7
- We can't park hop on a whim, because of FP tie-ins
- We have a larger family, with age gaps in kids, and vastly different interests even with those that are close in age. Not everyone could do their favorite on a given day.
- We never liked to hit RD, preferring to have everyone well rested, but now need to leading to the cranks
- We are now overly scheduled v having a light plan
- We actually did more running around to make sure we got every ride in that we could before lines got too terribly long.
- Even RD is more crowded. We were at DHS for RD during EMH and only got one single ride in before the park opened to everyone and at that point, there instant 20 minute lines everywhere.
- The app rarely worked in the parks for us
- The line for the FP kiosks rival those for rides
- Even when trying to switch, we found limited availability to absolutely nothing--so much for getting lunch when hungry because we may miss that FP or skip Jedi Training Academy so that we make sure we get on TSMM
- Standby lines were in some case tripled. We had to wait 15 minutes to get on Figment!
- Lines for FP were extremely long many times
- Sometimes the bands didn't work (like at the room, or when trying to get on the ride, or at the ticket turnstiles, or when trying to use them for payment, etc). Adding up all those "little inconveniences" I think we lost a total of 6 hours over 7 days, in slow season. That's like an entire park day wasted. And yes, I did keep track of times.
- The band itself is uncomfortable
- I felt tied to the cell phone and since the app never worked, and the tracking needed to be on, it ate my phone battery. I had to buy an external charger. Guests who didn't have chargers, kept pushing and pulling to get to the plugs in lines. I hate being pushed (literally) by guests
- Tiering meant missing wanted attractions in Epcot. I only want a FP for Soarin and TT.
- I hate to be forced into taking FP for attractions I don't want. Someone else may actually want them. Waiting 15 minutes for Figment seems awkward to me, but I wouldn't FP anything with less than a 20 minutes, but someone else may want to walk on that no matter what because 15 minutes for this version of Figment seems unacceptable to them.
I'm sure, I could think of more, but those all come to mind pretty quickly.
What I did like, much to my surprise, using the band to get into the parks. It was nice not having to dole out admission media before getting into the parks, paying attention to who had which ticket, and needing to collect them up at the end. But that isn't really FP+ related.
I've expressed my displeasure to Disney. I'm sure they don't care. They are stuck with it now, although I can see half a dozen ways to make it better. We are still going in November, but we're spending less time at Disney. We're going to Universal for 2-3 days and to Busch Gardens. I'm thinking we may also go to
LegoLand and/or Kennedy Space Center. Possibly even Gatorland with an airboat ride. Things I probably wouldn't have considered without Magic Bands and FP+. Really, shareholders should be very upset, but that is another thread.
