Not a Bug's Life Fan!

Now that the weather [is supposedly] getting warmer around here, those flying insects are starting to buzz around.

Anyone have any tips, strategies, etc...to keep them from building nests around the house, doors, windows & gutters...& esp. away from me?

I recently heard to plant Marigolds, Citronella, or Mint &/or to put out moth balls. What da ya think? Thanks.

I have heard marigolds work, but I HATE Marigolds.

They seem to attract spiders.....hate those even more.

Our neighbor has an old barn and wasps and bees love to build nests in there. He refuses to clean it up, so my DH went over there the other night and sprayed down two nests.

If anyone else has any ideas I am ready to take them!!!

I need to get rid of these pests...and I don't mean the neighbors!

Basil keeps away houseflies. Plant some on either side of the your entry way, and on widowsills, to keep them out.

Personally, I don't mind the bugs, as long as their constructive, not destructive. I don't see anything good about houseflies. Bah!

Maybe if you ask on the Flower and Garden board they'll be able to help! They're very helpful over there! Snowwark is a doll! I'll follow you over there and look for some tips too!

Good idea about the Flower & Garden board, Saffron, I didn't think of that.

As for Basil, we grow it every year...but far from the front door as it attracks annoying bees.

As for the Marigolds, spiders or wasps & bees...I dunno?!

It's not that I hate the bugs all together...it's just at my entrance doors 'cause they always manage to get in or become very annoying when we're trying to get out.

We are going to try to knock down some nests tonight while it's still a little cool here, but I know they'll eventually just be back...they just seem to love my house for some reason.

I don't know how you feel about using pesticides, but I love the Spectracide Indoor/Outdoor spray. I get it at Wal-Mart. It comes in a gallon container with a sprayer attached for about $6-$7.
It is clear and almost completely odorless. I like to spray it around the doorways, under the eaves, around windows, etc. I have had an exterminator tell me that the only way to kill a spider is to spray the poison directly on them.

Thanks for the reply dandave! I'll use pesticides, shoes, baseball bats, anything I have to to kill those annoying suckers! We used a specific wasp nest spray the other night when it was cold to get their nests. Thanks again.

Awwww, good! And you're welcome, I'm glad I could be of help. I just love Snowwark to pieces! She's so nice and very helpful.
