Norwegian Cruise Line dining room dress code enforcement.

I've also only been on one NCL cruise but it was my experience as well that it was a lengthly wait to get into anything other than the main dinning room at peak meal times. I wouldn't say that any of the food on NCL (even at the specialty restaurants) was worth waiting for, but we picked NCL specifically for the itinerary so we just considered it as fuel.
You need reservations for the specialty dining venues, NCL usually offers some free dining offers which keep the specialty restaurants busy.

On DCL you either have to eat extremely early or extremely late. It's been an issue discussed at nauseam on this boards. An alternative would be nice. I would be Okay showing up at 7pm grabbing a drink and waiting until 730 to be seated. I would imagine 630-730 would be prime time on any cruise line offering my time dining.
And not only do you need to eat extremely early or extremely late, they give zero buffet option and force you to deal with loud and slow dinner shows as the only proper dinner option.

I don't mind any of the cruise lines dining options. Disney, Royal, Carnival they all have their positives and negatives. Im flexible, I do my research and now what to expect. I agree with you options are nice. I would suggest anybody that wants opinions on NCL freestyle dining to go to reddit or cruise critic where you get a larger sampling of opinions then a Disney forum. Most of the posters on here are just looking for validation for choosing Disney.

La Cucina was never listed as a no-shorts venue. It was the Haven restaurant, Cagney's, and Le Bistro specifically. La Cucina has always been more casual.
The dress code on the app says "You'll see go to shorts with a collared shirt" for Cagney's and LaCucina. Apparently the new code is already off the table or shorts were allowed in Cagney's previously.

Yes, we had reservations at a couple of the specialty restaurants. I was referring to the meal times when we were "free-styling" it. I think there were 3 non-specialty options and while we could get a table in the main dining room without too much of a wait at peak times, there was always a lengthy wait at the other two venues.

I don't think there's much change in the dress code policy? Maybe they just clarified because it doesn't sound that different from when we normally cruise with them and we've cruised with them a bunch. Doing their new ship Luna soon!

It's interesting that NCL's dress code has gained so much interest on Disney cruise line forum. I see very little interest on the NCL forums...

My biggest concern with NCL is wether they are going to change the itinerary after the PIF date....not that I can't wear a bathing suit to dinner.

Norwegian is about to go through a lot more changes. The same hedge fund that just destroyed Southwest Airlines has now set their sights on NCL.

Completely off topic but I hope they focus on NCL and leave Southwest alone. They have done enough damage there already.

Already walked it back.....From Cruise Fever:

Norwegian Cruise Line walks back Dress code changes,

Guests can now wear shorts (as long as they aren’t short shorts) and any style footwear in the main dining room and all specialty restaurants. However, the cruise line did ask guests for their attire be suited to the setting.
The changes don’t mean that guests can wear whatever they’d like. Swimwear, graphic t-shirts, and clothing with offensive language will not be permitted in the main dining room or specialty restaurants.

FAQ still shows this information:

What should I wear when going to one of the onboard restaurants or bars?

We love a laid-back vibe, with just a few easy guidelines.

  • Attire with offensive language or images is not permitted at any time.
  • Cover-ups, shirts, and footwear are required.
  • Depending on the restaurant or bar you are attending, certain items such as tank tops, hoodies, robes, shorts, jeans with holes or tears, and caps/hats may not be permitted.
  • Shorts and Flip-flops? Totally fine in most places — just not in the following restaurants: Palomar, Ocean Blue, Onda, Cagney’s, Le Bistro and Haven Restaurant for dinner.
For specific guidelines for each restaurant, please refer to their individual dress code policies.

I saw a NCL commercial today with a person asking can I wear my flip flops and they respond of course! Walking it back.

NCL was exhausting for us. Crowds and waits and no reservations for anything we wanted. Kids club “closed.” Kids activities on top deck “closed.” We ended up just eating in the buffet and sitting on deck chairs.

How was Southwest Airlines destroyed? There stock price has almost doubled from a year ago.

It'll will be short lived, and will eventually tank after Elliott has unloaded their holdings. And the company will be left with the aftermath of their awful policy changes that have eroded their loyal customer base.

The stock is artificial due to the investment company coming in and pumping the money. Look at the SW threads and I dont think you will find a single one that has good things to say about the changes. Even the flight crews don't know what is going on with who can sit where based on what combination algorithm ticket you purchased. Yes, sarcastic, but taking a very functional lower priced airline, at least from my city doubling or more the price of the ticket and adding a ton of extra hoops to jump through is not the way to keep planes full. Plane is 1/2 full but the bottom 2 price tiers are gone. We used to be a SW die hard family, but now a trip to MCO is at least $400-$500 more on SW than the others, no thanks.

I think it's more like people will throw a temper tantrum over the changes, but then they'll continue to fly SW. I think WDW has taught us that....people claim outrage over every change and then continue to go. If they don't go there is people there to replace them. There will be people like me that were one and done with SW because they didn't like the boarding process. Now that I can choose seats I may become a customer. I'm honestly surprised it took SW so long to make this change.

Well the great thing about free markets is that if the prices are really 400 more than the competitors they won't be for long. SW will adjust to the competition. Airlines all offer the same thing...... an uncomfortable seat with some cheap snacks.

BAd analogy. There's only one WDW. There's a bunch of other airlines.

The open seating on SW actually lent itself to a much more orderly and organized boarding process as opposed to all other airlines... especially at the gate. Passengers each had a specific place in line and lined up accordingly ( off to the side). You didn't have every passenger, even if they were in the last group to board, standing directly in front of the gate agent blocking everyone.
