Norway College Program kids alerted to pavilion closing?

This has happened before: look at how deeply entrenched the "temporary" Festival of the Lion King now is at DAK. It's not really African in the least, but the songs are good and people adore the show, even after 18 years.

Whew! Just finished reading everyones's posts. it is clear to see that for many of us, Maelstrom has nostalgia appeal that is intertwined with the spirit of Norway itself. I guess we can only hope that Disney will not allow Frozen to dominate Norway to such an extent that the spirit and history of this country will be diminished. Since Frozen is so wildly popular, perhaps Disney should incorporate Frozen into the final scene of CoP and call it a day; that family could use an update!

Really? Did you not see the disaster when the meet and greet was in epcot?

What's funny is their solution is now to put a meet and greet back in the area from where they moved the meet and greet. They have a short-term memory problem in their planning department.

This seems like another anti-adult friendly decision by Disney. Epcot after hours being another recent example. Personally, I love the whimsy of Disney. I can't get enough of MK's dark rides. My DH & DS aren't as big of fans. The one thing we all can agree on is that Epcot is our favorite park, due to WS. It's too bad they feel the need to change that. There needs to be at least one area that's a big draw for adults to satisfy all demographics. I doubt too many people would argue that Disney doesn't already have enough for kids.

I've seen many people suggest expanding Frozen in DHS or AK. Why not one of the many empty buildings (the Capt. EO building should be empty too ) in Future World? They've already destroyed the future theme, so anything goes there.

Eh. I can't really understand the outrage (not saying anyone shouldn't feel it, just saying I don't get it).

As a previous poster mentioned, they already did pretty much the same thing in the Mexico pavilion - took a country-themed ride and added a Disney-themed overlay.

These pavilions aren't the actual countries. They are tiny, idealized, fantastical, fun, theme park versions. Adding a ride overlay or changing a percentage of the merchandise just doesn't rise to the level of travesty in my opinion

Disney just built a new attraction based on a movie that came out in 1938 and a new restaurant addition for a movie that came out in 1991. Both are so popular that this board has ridiculous numbers of duplicate threads about strategies for getting on or in these additions.

Why anybody would be surprised that Disney would add Frozen to the parks just completely baffles me. Also, adults posting that they like the movies that came out when they were kids more than the movies that came out when they were adults? No duh. Of course you like the movies that came out when you were a kid and you watched a million times. You're seeing the new ones without any of the nostalgia of your memories about growing up with the old ones.

OK now I'm confused. Epcot After Hours (assuming this refers to the Wind Down) is anti-adult? It's basically FOR adults unless someone wants to pay $35 for bored kids to drink soda or water and walk around a closed Epcot. Not many are apparently.

We're disappointed that they are doing so by removing a beloved attraction, and possibly removing an entire pavilion. there are so many ways they could (and should) add Frozen to the parks. World Showcase (not imaginary land showcase) is not the place for it.

At least the 3 Caballeros are touring the actual country of Mexico.

I don't know who posted they liked the movies of their youth better than the movies of today, but sure...that makes sense. I on the other hand like the Disney movies of today very much and happen to think that they're all better than Frozen.

Re-read any of the posts that are against Norway/Maelstrom being turned into a Frozen attraction.

No one is denying that Frozen is lucrative at the moment. No one is against a Frozen presence in the parks. They're simply against the idea of a major alteration that flies in the face of the spirit of the World Showcase, rather than placing Frozen in one of the many more appropriate places that already exist in the parks.

The first paragraph was in response to comments in this thread talking about how Frozen is essentially going to be a flash in the pan and in a few years nobody will care.

The rest is just a general commentary on the hundreds of posts I've read on this board with people that can't understand why people like Frozen better than <insert their preferred movie>. Not everybody is going to like it but it is pretty difficult to make an argument that it isn't popular.

I was responding more in general to the many meanderings of the topic in this thread than to your original post.

Those sweaters are awesome! I bought one 4 years ago and it still looks brand new. It's also very warm and comfortable during the winter.

Oh no! We love riding the Maelstrom! I get that it's not a super-exciting thrill ride, but it's something we do every time we go to WDW. So sorry for the CMs who are being moved around. It will obviously be a big adjustment for them.

EAH was originally adults only. It didn't take long for them to cave & allow kids. Most adult couples don't want to share a bar with kids. I've seen where many people cancelled the event after the change. Changing part of the one small area of WDW that appeals more to adults than *kids into what is essentially an extension of Fantasy Land says that WDW is catering on one demographic while ignoring the rest.

*I realize some kids love WS. My DS was one of them. Most kids don't enjoy it as much as adults do though.

I'm all up for a Frozen ride or store, but NOT in Norway, keep the countries as they are! Authentic and educational about cultures!

I waited around to see some reviews on the event. Most people aren't bringing kids. Because while they're allowed, there is no kids' price and no kids' menu, and it's an expensive proposition if you don't drink alcohol. Of course there is now no way to absolutely guarantee a child-free drinking event. But they are not "catering" to kids with this event. "Catering" would have been having a playground, coloring books and all-you-can-eat chicken nuggets on request.
