Norton Full system scan help!

How long should this take?

I started it at 10 PM last night and it is now 2:06 pm



so far it says that it has scanned 8300000. files and its still running, do I really have that much crap on my computer???

This is driving me crazy!!

That seems extremely long time to run. We try to run the entire system scan once a week, and it usually takes about 2 hrs. Of course, it is extremely difficult to compare one machine to another, as there are literally so many variables. I've never heard of it running that long, but I guess it could happen. Are you using a dial-up connection?

You so need to dump some stuff off your computer.Make sure your MyDocs folder is not saving them to multible folders.

Thats 8 milliom files scaned I think I have just under 120 thousand and I need to clean mine up.

How big is your hard drive and how full is it?
If you have a monster 180 gig and it is half full....

then again the processor speed is a factor as well.

we have around 150,000 files and it takes about 1 1/2-2 hours..14 hours and that many files doesn't sound right..unless your computer is running NASA or something?..lol..my suggestion is to go to symantec..they have 24 online techs who can answer your question..good luck!

i can't tell you except dh was downloading the lastest version of norton and the whole system crashed and hasn't worked more than a day since.

ok I dumped a ton of stuff and will try again soon.

Do you think that covers shared files on the network?

According to the specs in the defrag I have 70.22 GB and have 45.92 available. so 65% free space.


Does that gibberish help anyone ? LOL

If you have it set up to scan all and it's going out on the network it might just be. Set it up to just look in your computer C & D if thats how your drives are setup.
