Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

I saw a recommendation for the Maison Dieu on this thread, but they have no rooms left for the night of the 11th.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for a family of five???? :confused3

We're at the Loddington House in Dover. Two rooms since we have 5 also.

Here's a funny.......

When the final payment was due for the June 5 repo, I couldn't justify spending the money for the Cat. 11 since they had come out with the gty. cat. 12 for such a ridiculously low price.....

So, I cancelled the cat 11 and saved alot of $$$ and told my daughter Jamie that we would just have to "pack up" when we arrived in Dover so we could move from our Cat. 12 gty to our cat 11 for the June 12 cruise. She was a little bummed that we would have to go to the extent of moving everything.

Well.......last night I went in to look and see if they had assigned my cat. 12 gty stateroom for the June 5th. They had............................................

They put us in the cat. 11.........Stateroom 6067!

So we are in the same stateroom after all for both cruises!

DCL must have hired someone who is thinking outside the box!

That is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is our first cruise as a member of the DIS group and I am really enjoying all of you folks. I was going to pass on the fish extenders but it looks like fun if I have enough room in the suit cases. I need guidence on what type of gifts are left and for how many days should you plan to bring things for. Does anyone do things that are not Disney? Sue

We've gotten so many different types of gifts it is amazing. They are both Disney and non-Disney. We have gotten things that have been from a person's hometown and exclusive to their area and some things that I would never have thought of. Here's some of the stuff we have gotten:

bookmarks
magnets
candy
pirate patches, pirate stuff for pirate night
mardi gras beads
stickers
emergency kit (Thanks Alex!) had safety pin, clothes pin (to shut that curtain) twist ties, and some other stuff (sorry Alex I can't remember it all, but it was great)
cards
more candy
travel size kleenex themed Disney
flashy buttons
Oriental Trading Company stuff (little trinkets and stuff-you can also check your local party supply store in the bulk aisle where they sell this stuff really inexpensive)
coloring books
magnet boards
notepads

the list goes on and on.

We've also had homemade stuff and I think the most interesting gift I got was a mini baseball bat from Chicago (I think). I can't imagine getting all those baseball bats on board and what security must have thought about that one

Hope that kinda gives you an idea and helps.

This time, I am looking for something lightweight and compact that will be easy to get across the world!

You had also asked about how many days, frequency, etc
What is typical is usually, especially for the larger groups such as ours, is one gift per cabin or family, and sometimes something seperate for the kiddos.
So what Im doing this time is I have one gift per cabin and one gift per kid.
And Ive done an assorment of little things for the kids, such as
pens
notepads
stickers
and I found packaged Toy Story candy (since we will have a Premear at Sea of 3! fingers crossed!)

and dont forget to register with Debbie if you havnt already done so.
Hope you end up playing with us. Its lots of fun!

I love the hand-made and personalized items. I wish I had time to make something for this cruise, but we didn't plan far enough in advance, so I'll just have to see what unique items I can find in the markets here. ;)

On our last cruise, we made bookmarks:

Thanks everyone for the great tips. I work for Colonial Williamsburg so I may just get some things that are small from here! One more question, do you have to have a Fish Extender to receive gifts??? Sue

It is very helpful to have something that can serve as a Fish Extender. But you don't need to go all out, some people just use canvas bags or even gift bags. At Christmastime, many folks put stockings up.

Just make sure you personalize it and/or secure it to the Fish. It doesn't happen often, but I have heard of them walking away. :sad2:

Glad to have everyone aboard! It certainly will be a fun trip! The time is approaching :banana::banana:

While I'm posting my Dear Sister-in-Law is making our FE gifts. On number 3 of some 50! :scared: We got a lot more to make!

By the way did I read correctly that people are invited to bring villain costumes to wear for the Disney Villain Night? :confused3 I would love to bring my maleficent costume! Providing enough room in the suitcase.

Can't wait to meet everybody!

Sue

I just checked online and we have our stateroom assignment #8018 :yay:
Carol

I just got my assignment too: we are right across from you in 8524. I remembered you have a 9 year old daughter too; it will be great for Margaret to have a new friend nearby:yay:

Just popping in to say hello to everyone and welcome to all the new folks joining us. Unfortunately, I have very little time to post these days. My daughter is geting married less than 5 weeks from today and my son is getting married 5 weeks after we return from the Baltic cruise. I must have have been out of my mind to book this cruise. (Actually it was booked before either child got engaged!) I have never sailed before with so little preparation. Lord knows what I will end up forgetting! Right now I am racking my brain for a cute and clever FE gift that won't take a whole lot of weight and space in my suitcase. I always love the magnets, but don't have a color printer so that's out.

We love Colonial Williamsburg and have been several times and contribute annually to help preserve the wonderful history and heritage located there.

A fish extender in front of your door is very helpful so people know you are part of the DIS group.

On the 2008 EB PC cruise we found it easiest to deliver a gift to any room that had a fish extender. We first started delivering based on a room list with all the DIS group on it. Some rooms had FEs and others did not. Then we discovered that some families had changed rooms and they put up a FE but where getting left out because no one knew they where in that room. Because of this we delivered to rooms with FEs and rooms with door magnets the identified the family as DIS. If we came to a room that was on the list but no FE and nothing that identified them as DIS we did not leave a gift.

Thanks for the tip. The next time you come you will have to send me a PM and I will see what I can do for your visit. Sue

I was on that cruise too .. that explains why I ran out of FE gifts!

Jeanne, you really do have your hands full right now. The vacation in between the two weddings will be a nice break for you though.

Even though you don't have a color printer I bet you could still come up with a really cute black & white design. Also, on the WBTA in '07 one magnet we received was one of those foam cutouts from the craft store with a logo glued on it. So, that would be another cute idea for a magnet that doesn't require a color printer.

I called yesterday to see about SPB excursion. They finally lessened that 2 hour window between excursions. We are doing the Hermitage and get back at 5:15. They wouldn't allow me to book the 7 pm canal cruise. But now they did. I certainly don't want to have big blocks of time having to sit on the Magic while in SPB. Still looking into a private tour for day 2.

I asked her to confirm the nights (nothing new):

Formal night is 2nd evening
Themed evening is Villains; 9th evening.
11th night is semi-casual.

They still haven't settled on how we were are getting back to London after the cruise. She said it could be in vans. I think they should ship over the DCL buses!
