Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody. This is about as last minute as we do anything, so we're going to be scrambling for a bit. Looks like I've got more than 2400 posts to zoom through (and that's just thread part 2).

We'll be interested in hearing what kinds of plans people have for doing any of the ports on their own (without DCL excursions).

Virgil, we were thinking of going straight to Dover upon arrival and staying there the night before the cruise. Anyone else doing this? With the flight schedules following the cruise, we'll have one night to stay in London. That one we're planning to do near Heathrow (flight leaves at like 6am).

Anyway, we're really looking forward to this cruise and have a lot of research to do. I'm sure we'll be asking lots of questions. Can't wait to meet you all.

Aaron - I know some are staying in Dover the night before. I'm sure that they will chime in shortly...

Welcome aboard!:welcome:

We leave for London 6 weeks from today!:cool1::yay:
Have started gathering clothes and finished putting together kids fe gifties.
For anyone going to the Norway Folk Museum, how are you getting there?

Welcome aboard Joann. Looking forward to meeting you and your family on the ship. My daughter is 9 so maybe the kids will meet in the pool or the Oceanears Club/Lab.

We are under the crazy illusion that we might actually be able to keep this a secret from the girls until we head to the airport....:rolleyes1

But if that doesn't work, maybe the girls could chat via e-mail or something so that they'll know someone before they go? Caitie gets nervous about meeting new people, but then quickly makes friends and all the anxiety is forgotten. Her younger sister doesn't have that problem so much, so the six-year-old contingent should be fine. :thumbsup2

For anyone going to the Norway Folk Museum, how are you getting there?

I copied this from the cruise critic message boards:

If it was up to me, I would do Vigelandsparken first, because the morning sun would be behind you as you enter the park, giving you a better view of the central sculptures, and it makes use of the first hour before the museums open. I doubt the front gates to the park would be closed, but if they are, you can enter from the parking area off Middelthuns gate where there's no gate. (If ensuring that you have plenty of time at the museums is more important, I would suggest reversing this itinerary.)

To get to the park, take the Tram 12 from near Rådhus or the subway from Nationaltheatret. The tram is a more scenic option, but if you're in port on a weekend, the schedule is significantly reduced (from every 10 minutes in the morning to every 30).

To get between Vigelands Park and Bygdøy, the quickest way is to take the Bus 20 (direction Skøyen) from Vigelandsparken 3 stops to Olav Kyrres plass. At Olav Kyrres plass, switch to the Bus 30 that continues on to Bygdøy and stops at each of the museums. Between the museums, you can either walk or take the Bus 30. You'll reach the Folk Museum first, then the Viking Ship Museum a few minutes walk from there. And then the Kon-Tiki and Fram Museums are a bit farther on.

To get back to the ship/downtown, take the Ferry 91 from the dock next to the Fram Museum.

This is what I am planning. I would like to see Vigelands Park, the Folk Museum, the Viking Museum and the Kon-Tiki and Fram if possible. The Folk Museum opens @ 10am. We are also getting the Olso Pass. If you just want to see the Folk Museum you could take the ferry across and walk up to the museum. Happy Planning!

Hi Aaron ... there is going to be a few of us in Dover on the 11th, and we are planning on meeting at Cullins Yard for dinner at 7 pm. Hope you can join us!

Mary Jane

Also ... to those in Dover on June 11, don't forget dinner at Cullin's Yard at 7 pm. If you know you can make it, can you pm me so I can give them a rough idea on numbers, but feel free to show up at the last minute if your plans allow! I will make a reservation under the Name DISBoards (or Mary Jane if you want to get more personal!)

Mary Jane,

Will this be appropriate for young children? Or is it not a child-friendly place?

We'll be in Dover that evening and would like to join a group if kids are welcome.

Thanks!
Joann

I have booked the segway tour for the 2 p.m. afternoon in Copenhagen. Guess the morning tour is all booked up by those disboard people! :rotfl:

Anyway, Jamie and I have done segway tours in Barcelona and Madrid. They were both incredible and the perfect way to see the city in a short period of time.

Anyone else interested, here is the website: http://www.segwaytourscph.dk/

It was nice of them to call, but they noted we were arriving 5/25 staying at the Royal GARDEN and were asking about how we are getting to Dover. Heck we will be long gone before we even get our documents. :rotfl2:d

They also noted we initially declined transfers and then we booked the return to Heathrow.

Me thinks we need to confirm whilst on board.:thumbsup2

They're obviously chasing everyone up - they've been after us to see if we will be collected from London to go to Dover ..... mmmm no thank you seeing as we're just down the road I think we'll stick with making our own way :lmao:

Hi Joann ... Looks like it is, but they do have a Jazz band on Friday nights. I have sent them a quick email to ask. I will let you know what they say.

To Seaulater

I am in contact with Seamus, trying to book. Since the am is booked. We will be doing the 2:00 as well. He had told me there was a couple from DCL; guess that's you guys. My boys think this really will be fun (14 and 17). Looking forward to this.

Jennifer

Greetings all - just to say me (Julie) and DD22 - Meryl are joining this cruise. We are leaving DH at home - someone has to look after the cat!
We are travelling from the Lake District in the north of England, so we`ll get the train and spend the night before in Dover.
I`ll book the train tickets tomorrow - the earlier you book the cheaper they are. Can we debark the ship at 8.00am on the 24th? Its terrible to think that far ahead!
Anyway we have got one of the last few Palo dinner ressies - 9pm on Germany day!
Look forward to meeting you all :goodvibes

If not Jendisney or Seaulater, then who is doing the morning segway with us?

Disney Cruise line would like to welcome aboard the Feeb family.
And so would the 4boons.

Hi!

Is there a list for the FE Exchange? Since we are in Uganda and mail takes 2-4 weeks to get to us, I need to order some basic supplies to start putting this together now. So, I'm just curious about initial numbers so I can start planning.

If there isn't a list yet, I'd be happy to start one. THis is one of my favorite activities on our Disney cruises! :goodvibes

Welcome aboard!!

I will add you to the roster (link in my signature). The Fish Extender list is anyone that is on the roster is automatically on the FE list. Give what you can :) On the bottom of the page are the latest stats of who it aboard.

Making a quick trip to WDW this weekend, so any updates to the roster will be done next week.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Debbie

Hi all, I know this has been discussed before, but we've only just finalised our private tour for St Petersberg. Am I correct in thinking that we need to get crisp, new US dollars to pay for the tour & does the denomination matter? My local bank is going to think I'm crazy!

Joann, Patti & Carol - must be the magic number, my daughter, Sabrina, is also 9, so was thinking maybe the girls might like to have an email chat beforehand (add to the excitement...like that's needed)! Joann, I think I remember reading that your daughters do ballet, so does Sabrina & we have signed her up for the Russian ballet masterclass - that should keep her ballet teacher happy!

We are no longer GTY. We've been assigned stateroom 6532.
