Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Thanks for the 'welcome to the group messages' - while I was busy sleeping here in Oz, you were all busy posting!

Thanks for the responses about jeans at dinner, like others have mentioned I'm finding it challenging to work out what to pack - especially for my 4 yr old.

Some people have asked for ideas on where to stay, we arrive at Heathrow early on the 11th Jun (after a 24 hr trip), so we have hired a car & will drive ourselves approx half way to Dover, spending Fri night at the Holiday Inn Express at Epsom (a room for 4 cost us only 62GBP). Then we'll drive ourselves to Dover in the morning & drop the car off at the Hertz depot before boarding.

At the end of the cruise we have arranged a taxi to collect us & take us to Ashford International station where we have tickets for the 10.58 Eurostar to Paris, here's hoping disembarkation goes smoothly!

So anyone got any suggestions about places to stay in Dover the night before the cruise:confused3

LODDINGTON HOUSE

Okay, I found a couple of places to stay but not sure yet if they have availability. Has anyone heard of Premier Inn Dover or Loddington House Hotel? I'm still looking:surfweb:

Marianne
Stay at the LODDINGTON HOUSE with us!!!

Hi everyone, just stumbled on this discussion board and feel like I've hit the jackpot!

We are a family of Aussies booked on the Jun 12 cruise, & yes, we are literally the bottom feeders not getting a look into excursions until the 29th Mar! Thanks to everyone who has posted info about the excursions, can I ask whether the excursions booked through other companies are cheaper than DCL, or about the same?

I also wanted to ask about the dress code for the dinners, I read somewhere you can't wear jeans, & then some other site said you could wear jeans? I know it's possible to dress jeans up a bit, but not sure if they are taboo - all in the interest of packing light of course!

Wondered if you had heard about the changes to the kids club program I found on the site "Cruise Critic" (tried to post the link, but wasn't allowed as I haven't had enough posts on this forum!) The abolition of the age groups is great for us, as our kids would have been separated and now they get to stay together, making it much easier to convince them to go in the first place! I'm sure they'll be off with kids their own age in no time, still it helps get over those first nervous days.

Looking forward to Jun 12!
:welcome:

You should check the list. That will identify most of the teens with a family member participating in this thread.

Good idea, thanks I'll do that. I thought it would be fun to start a thread so the teens can get to know each other before we cruise. Any teens that want to start a thread let me know.

Looks like we might be staying at Maison Dieu. We haven't been able to talk to them by phone (keep getting answering machine) we have been e-mailing back and forth. They are saving a room with a double bed & a single bed which will work out great for us. I won't feel secure about it until we have a confirmation number and such. Tomorrow is the day we meet with our friend to discuss shore excursions. Then we just have to cross our fingers we get what we agree on! Think I'm going to have to seriously start thinking about what to pack also:headache:

Well, I just found out that the night we chose for Palo is a theme night, so we are going to change it. We are also changing to late dining, too.

Can you change dinning seatings now or do you have to wait until the 14th? Also if our paperwork says "Main" for the dining does that mean early or late?

I think "main" dining is the early dining.

Did they tell you what the theme was? Do we know if they are still doing a pirate night? Or maybe something else?

They told me that they don't have a pirate night scheduled but that it looks like a vikings night is planned.

And just when I thought I knew all the words for Yo Ho Yo Ho A Pirate's Life for Me:rolleyes1 Now what do the vikings sing:confused3 And those horned hats are going to be kind of difficult to pack:laughing:

I think somebody posted the schedule of the dinners. And the theme nights, too. Maybe somebody will repost it.

Cool, thanks for posting the dinner schedule! Whew, I'm feeling relieved, we talked to a very pleasant woman at Maison Dieu and confirmed that we can sleep there the night of the 11th! I sure didn't want to be sleeping in some alley the night before the cruise!!!! I double checked the date a hundred times too, because I could just imagine booking the wrong night after all that! :rotfl: Now today I just gotta get the guys to agree upon shore excursions and back up plans ;)

Have a good day everyone:hug:

When I talked to DCL on Feb. 28th they confirmed most of the above. DCL told me that there was only one semi formal night and it was scheduled on night 11. She also confirmed that a "themed night" was planned for night 9 after we leave Helsinki. The nice lady at DCL said she did not know what the theme was but the Med. cruises said pirate night and the Baltic said themed night so she assumed it was not a pirate night.

Doing a map and waypoint down load to GPS should be pretty much done with that, we have the travel playbooks made and are adding every now and then, serious study for me reference Normandy.

Will be bringing the Ipod Touch fro email etc, any suggestions refernce an application for documents?

Scott - I like Documents to Go - I used it on my BlackBerry and now on my iPhone. It will create and manage MS Word/Excel etc...

HELP! I have 2 rooms linked together. How do I make ressies for both?

As long as they are linked and are both paid in full, you should be able to reserve for both. I've done it a couple times.

Not sure if it works for everything, but I had no trouble booking us all on an excursion together and in Palo. That was about a year ago, so hopefully it hasn't changed.
