Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Greetings to everyone!!!! Oh my gosh, double digits?!?! Well that means I should start packing:rotfl: I didn't know there were scrapbookers here too?!:woohoo: I need a whole suitcase just to bring back everything I collect to put in my scrapbooks:laughing: But first things first, it seems I have to find a place to stay in Dover the night before the cruise:scared1: We have reservations at the Best Western Churchill but that hotel no longer belongs to Best Western:sad1: Our travel agent previously said we should be okay because her computer still showed our reservations just that it didn't belong to Best Western. Now she's saying that her computer isn't showing any reservations in Dover:eek: Since she knows that I've been visiting this sight she said I might ask where others are staying. She's still working on it but now so am I:surfweb: So anyone got any suggestions about places to stay in Dover the night before the cruise:confused3

We`re staying at Maison Dieu! It looks nice and had some good reviews at tripadviser.com

Okay, I found a couple of places to stay but not sure yet if they have availability. Has anyone heard of Premier Inn Dover or Loddington House Hotel? I'm still looking:surfweb:

Hi everyone, just stumbled on this discussion board and feel like I've hit the jackpot!

We are a family of Aussies booked on the Jun 12 cruise, & yes, we are literally the bottom feeders not getting a look into excursions until the 29th Mar! Thanks to everyone who has posted info about the excursions, can I ask whether the excursions booked through other companies are cheaper than DCL, or about the same?

I also wanted to ask about the dress code for the dinners, I read somewhere you can't wear jeans, & then some other site said you could wear jeans? I know it's possible to dress jeans up a bit, but not sure if they are taboo - all in the interest of packing light of course!

Wondered if you had heard about the changes to the kids club program I found on the site "Cruise Critic" (tried to post the link, but wasn't allowed as I haven't had enough posts on this forum!) The abolition of the age groups is great for us, as our kids would have been separated and now they get to stay together, making it much easier to convince them to go in the first place! I'm sure they'll be off with kids their own age in no time, still it helps get over those first nervous days.

Looking forward to Jun 12!

:welcome:

Welcome to the DIS Rach7 and looking forward to sailing with you.

I'll let others answer the kid's club question as my daughter was 16 on our first cruise and we didn't get to the teen's club.

Regarding dinner, I don't know if jeans are taboo or not, but I've always worn capris or dress pants to dinner.

Welcome RAC 7:yay:
You are in the same place as my ds and dbl with the late booking date. I am sure there will be excursions left for you but make sure you have 2nd and 3rd options. I cannot tell you about the price difference because we have always booked through Disney. Two reasons: Disney does a lot of research on the background of the tour companies to make sure that they meet Disney standards and the second reason is if your tour is late and booked through DCL they hold the ship for you. This actually happen to us on the 2007 med cruise on our trip to Rome. They held the ship for us but others who were not on the DCL tour missed the ship and had to catch up at the next port on their own dime.
My husband and I have friends who live in Cherrybrook out side of Sydney and we have visited your beautiful country.
On all nights but the formal and semi-formal i have on occasion seen folks in jeans. The only time I have observed someone not being admitted for dinner was at Palo's the adult resturant. Also in 5 cruises we have never seen anyone in shorts or tank tops at dinner.
Enjoy this first cruise. As I have shared with many of my friends dh and I feel DCL is Disney at its finest.

I have seen people on the Disney ship in shorts, but no tank tops at dinner.

My dbl is retired from United Airlines and still travels quite often. He told us to check the carry on requirement for the UK.
Here is some information regarding carry-on luggage when you travel in and out of the UK.

U.K. and Belgium security regulations permit only one carry-on item for customers traveling from:
London-Heathrow
London-Gatwick
Manchester
Edinburgh
Brussels
Be aware that handbags are included in this carry-on baggage and may not be carried as a personal item.

When we went to London in 2007 I had a small purse that I stuffed into my carry on bag.

Welcome to the group!!!!

I wear my jeans to dinner practically every night except formal, semi formal and pirate night. They're nice jeans w/o holes or fraying and I pair them with nice tops and heels. Definitely saves on packing.:thumbsup2

Thank you for the information on the carry-on's. I will have to figure out something for my camera bag that I carry as a "purse" in addition to my Tumi carry on bag.

:chat: I just had an interesting and :wizard: surprising phone call from Disney Cruise Line! It was the activities desk wondering we would like to schedule our Palo dinner, since I hadn't called to do it yet! My goodness, what service :flower3: I booked it for the sea day June 17th at 7pm.

Please check here for up to date Gatwick information:

It depends on what airline you are using. USAirways allows you 1 Carryon and 1 personal item.

I just traveled from LGW in January and I had a carry-on and a laptop bag.

Thanks Virgil this was from Delta and United. They made it sound like it was the airports requirement not theirs. Always good to blame some one else!

Hey, I am the DD (16 on cruise) of the 4boons. I am trying to figure out how many teens are going to be on the cruise. If you have a teen, or you are a teen, in the range of 15-17 (while on the cruise) send me a PM.

You should check the list. That will identify most of the teens with a family member participating in this thread.
