North To Alaska--May 3, 2011 on the Disney Wonder

We're supposed to be leaving a week from today, but things are still kind of up in the air.

My FIL's cath on Friday wasn't as bad as it could have been, but wasn't good either. The blockage is right at the start of the bypass he had a few years ago. The doctor doesn't want to stent it b/c if something were to go wrong it could trigger a massive heart attack. Also, sometime between the bypass and now he did have a small heart attack that caused damage to the lower part of the heart. The good though is that the rest of the heart has taken over for the non-functioning part. The doctor said as long as he's not having chest pains or shortness of breath they'll monitor him and treat the blockage with meds. He's due to go back to the doctor today, so I guess we'll go from there.

Lynn, we head out tomorrow to LAX. Staying at the Sheraton and just chill.
Taking the DCL shuttle to the port.

Looking forward to seeing old and new friends. :goodvibes

Where is that Ken guy anyway?

I'll never tell!

Sure hope your FIL continues to do well and is back in action soon...and that you'll be able to make it to Alaska!

I am invading your meet thread....
I am on the May 17th sailing and bought an IGT room - do any of you IGT/OGT/VGT people over here have a room assignment yet? I heard many of you still don't have one!
Thanks!

I thought we could not change or upgrade an IGT? I thought we were locked in? I could upgrade to an OGT for about $400, but didn't think I could!

What is everyone doing for dinner (non formal night)? I'm thinking jeans and a nice shirt? I don't want to be the only one though. The thought of bringing more stuff besides a shirt change is stressing me out!:scared1:

You can always upgrade...Disney is happy to take your money! They will never turn down money. We upped to a 10c for a couple hundred bucks.

Since this is our first big ship cruise, my DH wants to know the options for insomniacs who wake up at 3 AM. Are there restaurants open? Bars? Other entertainment options
Thanks and see you real soon. Ha ha

On non-formal/semiformal nights (and even on those nights, to be honest) you will see all variations of dinner attire. I think jeans and a nice shirt would be totally appropriate. Some people dress up, some don't. Jason and I dress for dinner with a tie every night except pirate night....but that's more just cuz we have a large collection of disney themed ties we like to show off at dinner than anything....not because you're "supposed" to dress up! :thumbsup2

At 3am? You have your television and room service pretty much...unless you can find other insomniacs who want to play cards with you! :rotfl2: In my experience we've found the ship to be pretty dead after 1 or 2am...and sometimes even earlier if there's a port day the next day. Room service is technically 24 hours, but there are no restaurants open that late. I think the last thing open is the pizza place by the Goofy Pool and it closes at 11 or 12. When I can't sleep at night, however, I've always enjoyed the fact that the ship plays a number of movies, both Disney and more current release, on continuous loops on the in-cabin TV's so you can stay up and watch movies! :)

We have a question for all you experienced MV cruisers. The scheduled arrival time of the repo cruise is 8:00 am, but will there be fanfare earlier for her first arrival in Canada?

Kind of hard to tell since that depends a lot on the local officials. Good question that I hadn't thought of. We are driving to Vancouver on Monday from Seattle and will be staying by Canada Place (the pier), so ...now I want to know if we need to get up and greet the ship :-). I'll see later if I can find out anything in the local news sources. If I do I will post it here.

I was on the Wonder for the first cruise out of LA in Jan. and we thought that there would be something when it came into port but there was nothing done at all. It came in about 2 in the morning very quiet, they got off we got on and left. with Disneyland so close I WAS SHOCKED.

So after the doctor's app't yesterday, which went really well btw, we made the final decision last night... We're in! Now to figure out what to pack, pack it, do FE gifts, get the dog ready, figure out if I forgot anything which I'm sure I have.:scared1:

Now it really is too much to do and so little time.

Good news, Emily! :woohoo: Don't worry if you forget anything...we're not going to the wilds of Africa after all! Just have meds, documents and a credit card!

MONICA....I called and left you a message ....at your HOUSE...! :headache: I guess I figured since I was off today, everyone was. If you see this during the day you can give me a call on my cell...otherwise I'll hunt you down when I think you are off work. Topic: Skagaway.
