Normally not a germaphobe but . . .

That would be me as well because I realize that it really doesn't matter and none of the germaphobic rituals are going to make a difference. Unless you live in a bubble and never go anywhere you are going to come into contact with everything poeple are trying to avoid by disinfecting their rooms, so why bother??? If you are really that afraid your should not be in a public place like WDW, because you are on the order of 10X more likely to be sickened by airborne grems than by contact, and you cannot ask the guy next to you not to breathe. You hear so much about handwashing b/ it really is the only thing anyone can do to attempt to keep from geting the flu, but in reality the transmission rate is at least 90% airborne.

I'm with y'all. I travel roughly 30 weeks a year. I do normal handwashing before meals, after going to the bathroom, etc. That's it. No wiping down of stuff. Rare use of the hand sanitizers.
I almost LIVE in hotels, including WDW resorts from time to time. I am almost never sick. I even sometimes keep the comforters on the hotel beds.

and as a side note, it sort of cracks me up about the comforters....I get it that they aren't changed all the time, so there is that. But the people who say "you don't know what people have done on them!!" Right, you don't, but seriously, if I am going to have sex in a hotel, I'll do it between the sheets, not on top of the comforter.

I am the "people" that said you don't know what has happened on those comforters....um actually I wasn't referring to what you thought--I was referring to childern having accidents on those comforters as this has happened to my family in the past so with that being said we are all glad to know that you do it between the sheets thanks for that info!

Comforters...I wasn't thinking about **that** either! I've seen lots of things that ick me out on comforters: babies diapers being changed without a pad, kids jumping up and down on the bed with their shoes on (we all know how germy the bottoms of our shoes are!), suitcases that have been dragged around the world on top of comforters, food spilled, etc.
Honestly, the only things my kids have had part of that is an accident loong ago, and we called mousekeeping to take/change the bedding.

No hotel comforters for me...:upsidedow

oops...sorry! Can you tell I'm childless....so I don't think about "kid" accidents. I thought y'all were talking about creepy adults! LOL

I have a 5 year old, and I was right there with you! Never even thought about a "kid accident". Probably becuase I haven't had to deal with that many with only the one kid!!

I went to Egypt in 2004 with a tour group, we went up and down some canyons but I never felt good in the walking shoes that I brought for the trip. So on the last day in the Sinai I said if we are going down one more canyon today these shoes are coming off. We did and they did I felt more secure and was as comfortable as anyone else (he said I walked like the beduin being bare foot and comfortable) I did slightly stub my toe but the sand stopped the bleeding quickly enough.

:lmao:

Ummm .... wrong thread? BTW, Egypt is on my "short list" of places to visit!

I am a bit of a germophobe since I hate dealing with sick kids. I would like to help my kids and myself fight the germs we come into contact with better and someone mentioned pro-biotics. Can kids take these? I have a 2 and 3 year old.

Of course I will ask my doctor about this but just wondering until I get in to see and ask her.

I plan on wiping down the room and our hands often as possible. Not only for this flu but every darn year we get sick. Last year we got that dreadful stomach bug that was bad there. My 3 yr old was almost admitted for it.

I may be over board but Lysol is my friend and its going with me along with its partners in crime fighting!

Sometimes by not exposing the family to some germs and bacteria, they don't develop the immunity that they need to fight off those ugly diseases.

Does anyone else just go on holiday? I have to admit I walk on the carpet with no shoes, don't carry anti bact stuff ever and leave the comforter on the bed and just have a holiday.

I'm with you, although we do take some precautions because my DD has asthma. As for the comforter, when she's not with us I usually just turn the top sheet over the top of the blankets and comforter. Here, hotels are switching to duvets and the covers are washed after each guest -- IMO, that is the best way to go.

As for the H1N1, we're just planning on getting the vaccine. We get a flu shot every year, and we don't get sick even though we travel a lot.

I am not someone who usually wipes the resort room down, carries hand sanitizer around etc, but our upcoming trip is the beginning of October and all this H1N1 talk is starting to freak me out. For those of you who are germaphobes I need some advice on what I can do to minimize our chances of getting sick while we are there.

I am bringing some Chlorox wipes and am planning on wiping down all the surfaces, door knobs, handles, etc. I also thought about bringing some disinfectatant spray to spray everything down as well (I have always thought Mousekeeping has done a great job with cleaning but I just want to do it to give it an extra cleaning). I'm bringing the ziplock for the TV remote. I have hand sanitizer for all of us and am planning on having all of use it after we get off the rides where we have to touch a hand rail or lap bar. I'm big on making sure to wash hands a lot throughout the day and only touching faucets with a paper towel (that's the RN in me!). Obviously we are also using tissues and making sure we all cover our nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing to ensure we aren't spreading anything. I tell everyone to keep their hands away from their mouth, nose, and eyes.

What else have you done in the past??

Oh my I think you a germaphobe and i am a NURSE

Well I have 4 kids and I assumed people were talking about the "creepy adults" too!!! Maybe I watch too many shows where the forensic team collects the sheets and bed covers and shine the light and all the bedding lights up like a Christmas tree!

As for the stubbed toe in Egypt maybe the poster brought the comforter from the hotel with and was able to stop the bleeding with it!

Well, I am going to WDW next weekend and I called my Dr. to ask him for some ideas to "try" to not get sick while I'm on vacation. He told me to bring hand sanitizer w/ me everywhere & use especially after going on rides! Also, plenty of handwashing and most importantly, to keep my hands away from my face, mouth, nose, & eyes!!

Now I don't think I'll sanitize my room ( but I know plenty of folks who do it and bring the Sam's Club can of Lysol!!!) but I will follow the other things to the T!
