Hey there everybody,
Norm and I got back yesterday and came back with a bunch of stuff - did a lot of checking on "stuff" down in Key West and I will write tonight with what all I found - I know traffic and drunks were everywhere - I was extremenly disappointed with some of the things that I learned - also they have now allowed a "Naked Lunch" restaurant to open right off Duval Street on Charles St. - what is "this" - well you drop your clothes off at the door and go and eat without the fig leaf - well I don't think so - my luck the people in there would be older and haggier than me :teeth: - besides there is better stuff to do while there -
Anyhow thanks for all the good wishes - had a great time.
Much love always
Shirley

ewww, Naked Lunch!!!!!
that would be a good way to ruin a lot of appetites, could you imagine
You can be sure it would not be only the young, buff bodies that would eat there.
Unfortunately, I am not in the young, buff body category myself so I think I will just have to steer clear of there.

Hi Shirley.
Glad you had a nice trip. Can't wait to hear about it.

So - why would someone want to eat without clothes with other people? And better question - how/why did they allow such an establishment to open? Put this on your list of things that are hard to understand!!!
Karen

I'm one who always feeds my shirt.
I can only imagine if I ate naked. YUCK!!!!
For me beong naked is a luxury I share in the privacy or my own home with my DH.

Shirley - I am dying with both laughter and disgust at the "Naked Lunch" - amazing how things have changed for you since you were a child there. And not for the better either. Well, darling, at least you and Norm are still the same and I promise I will call!

But I am NOT going to "Naked Lunch" with you!!!

Nothing ever ceases to amaze me anymore! :jumping1:

Obviously there will be younger kids in this place, and by younger~ I am meaning around the twentyish ages, give or take a few years!

Ahhh!Too funny, I'm in laughter and awe here...

Kathy :cutie:

Hey dave - thanks for the link - this is what was written up in the local newspaper also - I did swing by out of wanting to see what the outside looked like and it still looked trashy - I don';t believe I will be asking Rae is join me there :teeth:
Anyhow I found the North end of Duval Street worse than ever - of course unfortunalty this is close to Mallory Square, but if you get away from that area then you can enjoy Key West with children and not be so concern - You are right Rae - my parents, and the rest of the family are most likely doing turnovers at the graveyard - we never even knew such stuff existed since we were so far from the mainland and kept very naive including the adults -
Anyhow I do recommend the aquarium - it has come a long way since I was a child - the admission is 8.00 for adults and 4.50 for children over 4 years - I also am for the conch train, trolley car, motor scooters, electric cars to get around in tho parking is no where to be seen - I also recommend Mr. Hemingway's place, the lighthouse - if you want to do shopping - STAY COMPLETELY AWAY FROM THE AREAS AROUND MALLORY SQUARE - one tee shirt shop was just fine $50,000.00 for overcharging customers - remember they are own by one corporation - when one gets closed up, another opens under another name - get your amount first IN WRITING as to what to expect your purchases to cost with imprints - its a law now down there - too remember these tee shirt shops show a great deal of unmentionables tee shirts that I wouldn't even give an enemy - down town Key West is NOT FOR CHILDREN -
I loved the butterfly farm - very unique for children - if you go to Whitehead Street or Simonton Street for shopping, I believe you will be more satisfied.
Now I still recomment Vinny from Touch of Gold - he still is giving the conch rates from anyone that buys from him - he is located right by Keno Sandels - also went in there but because their prices are already so low, they would not consider any discounts for cruisers - had some great shoes - my sister brought 3 - I am still using my mom's that is now 26 years old and still look great -
I found the shops around Vinny very honorable and they have some cute stuff. - also I wanted to mention that the kayaking tour that is offered in KW is the biggest rip off going - you are in stock island and taken to cow Key which is right by US 1 - I did check that out and did not feel it was worth the cost or the tour - in fact I told them it was a farce - they seem to feel that their service was well worth their fare - yea right - anything for a 1.00 or two
Now I have a bunch of stuff to share with you and your only cost is a large manilla envelope with about $3.75 worth of stamps on it - also make it self addressed - you can mail it to me at the perfect gift 6550 North Atlantic ave, cape canaveral, fl 32920
I will only stand by those that I recommend and put my stamp on - I know that if they do not stand by their word then I will put them as a on your own risk thing -
the traffic was horrible, but they had 2 cruise ships in, the water boat racing and something else that I can not remember.
also 6 convention meetings.
Do I feel Key West is for children - NO NO NO
Do I feel Key West is for adults - yes cause you will come back with your sides hurting from laughing so hard -
Do I still love my hometown OH YES but just not very proud of the way they handle the tourist and their monies
Well this is it for now - hope I do not get in trouble for expressing these feeling and they are just mine, Norm and the old conchs -
Luv ya all
Always
Shirley

Naked Lunch huh????? I just had the most terrible vision flash through hoping the person who sued McDonald's for how hot the coffee was when spilled in their lap......hope that Naked Lunch is a place to avoid.

We here on the Pacific Coast are being treated to a new restaurant chain called Naked Sushi......same raunch, but YOU are not the one who is naked. The "serving platter" is the one naked. Yep......woman laying on table, you help yourself to sushi covering her body.....and they say they place the most popular sushi on the areas the customers want to uncover first. EWWWW!

Marilee:eek:

I can't imagine anyone wanting to eat naked. I guess you could always find a few leftovers to nibble on later in the day;)
Hubby and I will be going to Keywest for the first time in January, but will definetly leave our clothing on when we eat.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Naked Lunch?

Well, I guess these people had to have a place to eat lunch before they got on the Naked Catamaran and took their sunset sail around the Disney Magic and these Naked Boaters had the chance to wave at all the families and children who were watching the beautiful Key West sunset from their verandahs!

GD
I know and I am so sorry that my hometown has stooped so low to allow all that does down there - believe me at one time it was and Island Paradise - and it was a magical place - no make believes - life was like living at a castaway cay day in and day out.
Again I do apologized and wished it was different.
Always

The trolly goes right by this place. We almost choked when we saw it back in October. My DH got a good laugh--as did my DD (12  ) I was QUITE surprised to see this--

Last year when we were on the Magic Western cruise for Halloween we had a naked catamaran go by us (and it was FULL) It sailed right past the Magic. Of course this was the tail end of Fantasy Fest too. We also had taken the trolley and got off over by the Southernmost Point. I didn't realize there was a nude beach over there

Also there was a lot of *almost* nudity everywhere because of Fantasy Fest.

I almost DIED when that catamaran went by and she (dd) got quite the eyeful (and I have pictures to prove it--I was taking pictures of sunset, and as soon as the sun finished setting that catamaran went by. I was still *blinded* by the sun! You wouldn't believe the pictures.)

Key West is quite the place nowadays. Quite different than when we first started going there back in the early 90's.

 All I can think of concerning Naked Lunch is that someone else sat in that chair before the person sitting there now........... ewwwww:rolleyes:

I want to go to Key West when Shirley and Norm were kids. How can I book that excursion???

Jan :earsgirl:

Okay Shirley, our last cruise you out did yourself on our wonderful baskets.

So this time... I may need to add BLINDERS to my hubby's champagne bag ....... and a card that says "OBJECTS MAY APPEAR TO BE........." or is that card for me.....;)

Well at least you helped me to decide what the kids are NOT going to be doing....

Be talking to you soon .... in about 5 months.....

Maybe Disney needs to rethink this stop and of course, you know I mean no offense, Shirley, but it was very hard to deal with the adult themes when children are present.

I mean, just how do you explain a carnival lei with male privates on it hanging in the door way??

Maybe it's time that Disney needs to d/c KW and try another port - any thoughts?

Shirley, you know that I heard this rumor about a fine looking conch couple at the Naked Lunch who kept talking about verandahman and rae519 - Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??????

Rae

Rae do you mean someone found out - OMG - did you also hear the rumor of running out of super glue that was used to keep most of mine and Norm's body "in place" LOL -----oh well each time I do something --someone finds out --listen all kidding aside - I wouldn't go in there if they paid me - I was talking to my cousin that is still "one of the ol conchs" down there and he was so hysterical laughing over it - as he said they don't have fig leaves big enough for him :teeth: -
You asked me how I feel about the ships stopping there - I am against any ship stopping any place that has no morals - yes I do believe they should find another place to stop but then KW has at least one ship or two or even three stop almost every day and those down there see the $$$$$$$$ signs - I am going to write the mayor, but that will do as good as me going naked -
Anyhow this has been a laughable thread for most part and everyone needs a good laugh every day in their lives.
Rae wanted you and your mom to know I am ok - tell your mom to call me sometime also - how is she doing?
Give her, Michael and yourself hugsssssss from us and also to those here we are so family/friends with.
Always
Shirley

I did grow up in one heck of a place and to think I was embrassed for so many years to say I was from there :(

All I can think about is....how clumsy I am and what would happen if I spilled soup in my lap?!? YUK!! I can't even think about the bare bum issue.

Thank you, Shirley and Norm, for offering all this great info about KW. We will be on the Magic starting on March 13th and I am trying to figure out what to do (and not do) at each port of call.

I will definitely send out my large manilla envelope to you this week! But one quick question. I have read about a sunset celebration in Mallory Square each evening, is this true and is it appropriate for us and our DS11?

Thanks again,

deco
