Hey dave - thanks for the link - this is what was written up in the local newspaper also - I did swing by out of wanting to see what the outside looked like and it still looked trashy - I don';t believe I will be asking Rae is join me there
Anyhow I found the North end of Duval Street worse than ever - of course unfortunalty this is close to Mallory Square, but if you get away from that area then you can enjoy Key West with children and not be so concern - You are right Rae - my parents, and the rest of the family are most likely doing turnovers at the graveyard - we never even knew such stuff existed since we were so far from the mainland and kept very naive including the adults -
Anyhow I do recommend the aquarium - it has come a long way since I was a child - the admission is 8.00 for adults and 4.50 for children over 4 years - I also am for the conch train, trolley car, motor scooters, electric cars to get around in tho parking is no where to be seen - I also recommend Mr. Hemingway's place, the lighthouse - if you want to do shopping - STAY COMPLETELY AWAY FROM THE AREAS AROUND MALLORY SQUARE - one tee shirt shop was just fine $50,000.00 for overcharging customers - remember they are own by one corporation - when one gets closed up, another opens under another name - get your amount first IN WRITING as to what to expect your purchases to cost with imprints - its a law now down there - too remember these tee shirt shops show a great deal of unmentionables tee shirts that I wouldn't even give an enemy - down town Key West is NOT FOR CHILDREN -
I loved the butterfly farm - very unique for children - if you go to Whitehead Street or Simonton Street for shopping, I believe you will be more satisfied.
Now I still recomment Vinny from Touch of Gold - he still is giving the conch rates from anyone that buys from him - he is located right by Keno Sandels - also went in there but because their prices are already so low, they would not consider any discounts for cruisers - had some great shoes - my sister brought 3 - I am still using my mom's that is now 26 years old and still look great -
I found the shops around Vinny very honorable and they have some cute stuff. - also I wanted to mention that the kayaking tour that is offered in KW is the biggest rip off going - you are in stock island and taken to cow Key which is right by US 1 - I did check that out and did not feel it was worth the cost or the tour - in fact I told them it was a farce - they seem to feel that their service was well worth their fare - yea right - anything for a 1.00 or two
Now I have a bunch of stuff to share with you and your only cost is a large manilla envelope with about $3.75 worth of stamps on it - also make it self addressed - you can mail it to me at the perfect gift 6550 North Atlantic ave, cape canaveral, fl 32920
I will only stand by those that I recommend and put my stamp on - I know that if they do not stand by their word then I will put them as a on your own risk thing -
the traffic was horrible, but they had 2 cruise ships in, the water boat racing and something else that I can not remember.
also 6 convention meetings.
Do I feel Key West is for children - NO NO NO
Do I feel Key West is for adults - yes cause you will come back with your sides hurting from laughing so hard -
Do I still love my hometown OH YES but just not very proud of the way they handle the tourist and their monies
Well this is it for now - hope I do not get in trouble for expressing these feeling and they are just mine, Norm and the old conchs -
Luv ya all
Always
Shirley
