NOOO!!! the rumours are true about indy :(

"But if I chose to go to DLR during an offseason month I would be philosophical about it - that is when refurbs happen. September and January are the two worst months for refurbs. And October-November and February-March are close behind. Anyone who plans trips during those times should be prepared for at least one if not several major rides being under refurb during their trip. And these are typically announced the day before up to maybe a couple months before. Usually you get a couple weeks notice. " HydroGuy Qoute

I have two issues here 1) WDW manages to give the info out months in advance I don't see why DL can't my guess its so people are already committed to going before getting any info that would change their minds about dayes (leaving the parks much quiter on these less desirable days)
2) You pay the same ticket price all year round when clearly Disney does not provide the same magicial experience all year round, obviously there is a trade off for wait times on rides but in one week to close Indy, SM and HM (on top of some other smaller ones) reduce fireworks/ F! to weekends, remove the magic the memories and you completly, close one day at 5pm for a cast party and have generally reduced hours is a bit much

I always hate to hear of refurbs during our trips but Indy....Indy desperately needs to be worked on. In the last long while every time we ride it I have been disappointed by something or other not working. The chamber of destiny hasn't been working (when we ride it) for as long as I can remember. :( I love the ride and coming from Canada, we can't get down to DL nearly as often as we'd like but I am going to look on the bright side & can't wait to see it back in tip top condition! :)

I actually quite agree with you about this. Shorter lines are a nice perk of off season...but as everyone knows, there really is no true off season anymore...so where is the perk?? A lot of the previously slow times are now just as busy as summer! Yet, they are still closing earlier and shutting down multiple things and greatly reducing entertainment....there definitely should be an off season/refurb season rate, they could call it a fall/winter rate, i suppose. But you are right, paying the same amount of money should get the SAME amount of magical Disney experiences no matter when you go to the parks.

As someone who is making their very first trip to Disneyland in 6 weeks time(travelling from the UK) and who booked 7 months in advance to get DVC accommodation....it would be nice if they could give out slightly more advanced information.....and not just for rehabs....park hours would be useful too....!
Yep, that would be nice. But they can't do that because they don't know. They could announce it and then change the hours - like WDW does. Or they could just wait.

Really, with hours announced far in advance there is nothing you could do with it. If they announced all refurbs 6 months in advance then in an ideal world everyone could schedule their trips around them. But they just don't know at that point.

I totally agree that it is what it is, and when Disney knows, they announce it. Last year we missed Pirates and California Screamin'. It was a bummer, but there is still SO much to do when one or two rides are down. This year we decided to push our dates back, hoping for less rehabs (knowing that they most often happen Sept., Oct. and Nov) We opted for early Dec. with the hope that most rehabs would be done by Thanksgiving weekend. Obviously that part didn't work in our favor- but we will have Carsland, Christmas decorations and many many other magical things to experience. Indiana Jones is just a tiny piece of a huge puzzle.

(although I am still contemplating adding a day to and hitting Indy the morning before we leave- it is just too close! :rotfl:)

To be fair, in 2012, they did offer a discounted ticket rate for January 4th through May 28th, except for March 30-April 15 for Spring Break.

Also, off peak times traditionally have cheaper hotel rates, cheaper prices at the character meals, and smaller crowds which adds value to your tickets in terms of rides per day.

I know we don't have cheaper character meals the week Sept 10-17th

Darn! I was really looking forward to this ride. Our first trip too, but i won't let it get me down i mean i will still be at DL. I don't think i will run out of things to do.

hmmm...well yes, I suppose they did offer a special for a few months, but I am talking about a regular "Off-season" rate, not a "maybe they'll offer a special this year and maybe not" kinda thing. As it's looking now, there will be none for this year. Yes, I know carsland just opened, but there will still be big rides down and earlier closures, plus, hotels and character meals aren't any cheaper....Just don't see the same amount of value during the non busy months for the price, you know? :confused3 Now all that being said, I'm not saying I won't go and fork over the bucks (as you can see, I'm there in a little over a month! YES!!) ....so, I suppose that's why Disney doesn't have to offer cheaper rates or amp things up so that the same level of magic is being provided during non-busy months, cuz people like me will still pay the full price and go during slow months...lol. shucks.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that BTMRR won't go down for fixin' until after the holiday season, especially now that they've announced the Indy refurb. I'm telling myself they won't have two biggies down at the same time, especially during Halloween and Christmas seasons.

I'm not a huge Indy fan, but sure do love thunder mountain.

So...I'm waiting to see how it plays out.

My thoughts exactly, DLRfan31. As much as I love Indy, BTMRR is DS's favorite ride. We arrive the day before Thanksgiving and I'm crossing my fingers, too.

I guess I posted too soon, I just found this in David Koenig's column on another site......

"Among the most noticeable changes will be widening the bridge in the “big room” to accommodate a new car maneuver. “They want to eliminate the chance that vehicles will put guests in precarious situations if they stop there," said one cast member. "The zone afterwards is a notorious spot where vehicles get ‘lost.’”

Although other online sources cite Big Thunder Mountain as next in line, that coaster’s top-to-bottom safety update/rebuild is not scheduled to begin until January."

I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel!

It is frustrating when your favorite ride won't be open while you are there. We had this happen last year for our trip. POTC was down for a few months, and it's my absolute favorite. I was bummed, but the fact that we went during the week in October and didn't have to deal with the crowds was so worth it. It also gave me an excuse to plan a trip for this October (that, and Cars land: ) ).
Someone made the point of how years ago before the internet we would have never known such things. So true! There is a comedian out there who does a bit about this, how in this day and age, we are so used to instant info and access, that if we don't have it, we are furious. Made me laugh, because it's silly we get so upset about not being able to get info faster, when we actually have better access than we have ever had before. Don't stay angry about this, it's not worth it. Just contact Disney and let them know how you feel. Then you can say you did what you could to let your feelings be known.

After hearing all the rumors about an upcoming Indy closure for the past several months, I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when the dates for our upcoming trip finally became available on the official DLR calendar and Indy WAS NOT on the list of rides down for refurb.

Then today I discover THIS!!!!!!!!!!

We arrive at the parks September 8th... Four days after it goes down. Can't change our trip dates because DH's job won't allow him to take vacation days during a short week (due to the Labor Day holiday).

I know rides have to go down for refurb and if we go during off season we're taking the chance that our favorite(s) may not always be operational but my beef is with this closure NOT being on the official calendar where it BELONGS! WHAT THE HECK!! :furious:

I'm with you, I find it a bit of a (tough, people will still come) to post this 3 weeks in advance of the initial closing. It's bad enough that DLR keeps their schedule secret until 6 weeks out as opposed to WDW, but now apparently they don't post ride closures until 3 weeks out. I doubt there are too many out of towners that can change vacations 2 months out much less 3 weeks out.

I'm certainly annoyed as this was my big ride I was looking forward to.

OK so we are going 10/31-11/4....Indy is supposed to down for refurb and BTMR is rumored to be closed for rehab. I remember reading that another big ride is closed after Halloween to put up a Christmas overlay--but I cannot remember which one...so 3 big rides will be closed during our visit? I know going in off season is our choice but we really wanted to try some of these....& I bet the waits on others will be up...

just read it on mousechat and then looked myself. Disney has that it will be down sept 4-december 7.

Oh man... I thought I was avoiding the refurb bug this time around. We'll be there over Thanksgiving for our first trip back to DL in several years... gonna miss my Indy Fix :worried:
This is very bad news if true. First, because it means the ride is STILL not functioning like it should, and is nearing Expedition Everest territory of futility. Secondly, because Big Thunder is also going to be down starting in September and for nearly a year. Pirates and Haunted will be incredibly busy as a result :(

Where did you hear this info? I can't find anything on BTMRR going down for refurb...

OOooppss! I hadn't read through the whole thread. I see the rumor about the BTMRR closure :)

DH just said "Oh well guess we will have more time for Carsland then".

I love his positive attitude. pirate:

It's a Small World always goes down for its holiday overlay in late October and reopens in November when (or a little before) holiday time starts, so that's probably the other ride you are thinking about being down.

BTMRR closure is still just a rumor. One Disney fan site (MiceAge) has stated that the BTMRR refurb would start in the fall, but another Disney fan site (MousePlanet) has stated that the BTMRR refurb would begin in January. Neither of these are official Disney sources, but they may have access to Disney insiders who may be somewhat in the know about these things. Since the Indy refurb does seem to be official now, it would make more sense to me for the BTMRR closure to wait until January, but I am not in any way a person in the know. Even if they wait for the big BTMRR refurb until January that doesn't preclude briefer periods of closure before that month. The big Matterhorn refurb was done in stages, closed for a while, then reopened, closed again, open again, then finally closed for the very lengthy refurb.

DH just said "Oh well guess we will have more time for Carsland then".

I love his positive attitude. pirate:

Great attitude! Carsland really deserves the time in my opinion. Even though we only rode RSR and Luigi's once each and Mater's three times over our three days, we spend a lot of time in Carsland admiring the details and enjoying the atmosphere and food. I definitely look forward to returning, especially to get some more time in on the rides.

Are you sure this is true? It doesn't say anything about it on the Disney site. :confused3

Rumor only at this point and different sources are saying different things. One says BTMRR refurb in the fall, other saying not until January.
