NOOO!!! the rumours are true about indy :(

Oh man, this is such a bummer. My absolute favorite ride, and Disneyland is harder/more expensive to get to now that we moved closer to WDW.

But, it's DH's too and he just told me, "Guess we will have to plan another trip then."
Woohooo! If Scrooge is down for it, than that's all I need!

I must be missing something but for someone who plans a trip a year out, what is the difference if Disney announces this 3 weeks or 6 months in advance? For most folks the only complaint I can understand is if a refurb is announced far in enough in advance that they have time to reschedule if they want or choose a different dagte in the first place. But for a trip planned a year in advance that is not an option. :confused3

I'm not saying this information would have made a difference in trip planning 6 months back. I'm saying, I'm noticing many locals saying it's no big deal, Indy needs the refurb. What they are missing is that there are many of us that it is a big deal, and until noticing this sneaky little footnote on the DL website, it's very disappoinging. It's a big change in perspective when you only have one opportunity a year to visit the park. Will we survive Indy being down? Sure. Is it annoying that it's not on the refurb calendar, but tucked away on their website under the ride information (to those of us that can only visit once a year)? Yep.

I still am not sure I get what you are saying. One you seem to be disappointed that Indy will be down. I get that. It is offseason and that is what happens in offseason. But it still can be disappointing.

But you also seem to be bothered by Disney not announcing it far enough in advance. So if they announced it two months ago would you be less disappointed?

Where does it say BTMR is going down?
"It" doesn't, as in Disney has not said this. It is a rumor from credible sources but it is just a rumor at this point. Some people are taking the rumor as if it is a done deal. Others will just wait to see how things play out.

Sure. And to go one step further, if we had showed up next month expecting Indy to be open and finding it's not because it's not on the refurb calendar, I'd be really ticked.

You do seem to be missing my point, which is, Disney refers us to their official website calendar for everything - park hours, entertainment, refurbs, etc. and the best they can do for us is give us 6 weeks notice. So for those of us that aren't fortunate to plan our trip during peak season, we choose a set of dates, and hope they're good ones. And then six weeks out, we start checking the website calendar to see what will be open and what will be closed. Come to find out, they reserve the right to not list rides they're going to have closed on the refurb calendar, but instead, someplace most people wouldn't even think to look.

Count me amongst the bummed. We did just plan our once-in-a-lifetime-type trip in the last 60 days, and missing out on one of the major, unique attractions might have made a timing difference if we'd had more notice, because I did consult the official refurb list and historical data here when selecting our dates. Will it ruin our trip? Hardly. Are we disappointed? Absolutely.

This makes me so sad :( When the rumors came out earlier this year that Indy might be closed, we moved our trip from Oct. to Dec. to possibly avoid it (I knew IASW would be down getting the holiday overlay as well.. it wasn't our only reason for changing dates but it did play a part) Anyway- we changed our trip to Dec. 2-7- Oh the irony :rotfl2: The sad thing for us is this will be our last DL trip for a couple years- we will go to WDW after this DL trip, and we really can only swing a trip every 15+ months. Indy is my husband's all time favorite ride and my daughter is behind me still whining about it :rotfl: Ah, such is life.

Any chance they have a soft opening on the 7th? :wizard:

My other thought is we could try to add a day to our 6 day hopper and ride Indy in the morning on the 8th before we leave to drive home, just not sure my husband will go for that since he likes to be on the road EARLY. (we will be driving back to CO)

Indy seems been so flakey lately that planning any trip around it being up would likely end in dissapointment. The 3 times we went to ride it this past weekend it was down (different days) - it's akin to Murphy during her more infamous days.

Im in the majority but in a way Im glad its down in sept...since then I wont miss riding it since I am pregnant and cant.

I get that you are upset, but if you visit once a year it's not like you won't EVER have the opportunity to visit the park ever again. When would have been a good time for the ride to go into refurb? After your visit? There would have been no good time in anyone's eyes for the ride to go into refurb because everyone thinks that the ride should go into refurb after they leave. It sucks that it's happening when you are going to be there but honestly the ride isn't enjoyable when certain aspects of the ride don't work that well, wouldn't you want to come back a year later and the ride be doing perfectly? :confused3

Boo. We've had no luck with this ride! In the past few years, we've been able to rife on it ONCE! All the other times we've tried, it's either been WAY too long of a wait for our liking, or it's been shutdown...I suppose the latter is the reason the need to refurb though, huh? :) Oh well, next time!

I'm ok with this one. I'll miss Indy on our September trip but it does need a major refurb. It breaks down once a day everytime we're there. And DD5 is too short to ride it so no broken heart for her.
I am however crossing all fingers that BTMRR will be up for our trip. That one would break her heart.

Please go back and reread what I have posted. I understand that Indy needs a refurb, and I am not griping about when they've decided to do it. What I AM griping about is their mishandling of information.

As I have stated (numerous times now), it is disappointing, but not the end of the world. But not having it on the refurb calendar and finding out through the grapevine that there is someplace else they've "announced" it is lame.

Crossing fingers here too! BTMRR has been my favorite since I was a little kid! I might cry if it's down when we are there!

I have to agree on that point. It IS kinda lame that they announced it in the place most people would never see instead of on the calendar....perhaps it just didn't make it on the calendar yet?? :confused3

Indy needs something. Honestly, it's been closed by plan a few days here and there over the past few years, but it hasn't had a nice long closure that I recall in the last several years. It sounds like some of what it's being closed for is more safety stuff. I'm hoping that there are some real show improvements and ride improvements that get done too.

The same MousePlanet David Koenig article that talks about the closure also says that Big Thunder isn't slated for it's rehab until January. Al Lutz implied early fall, possibly September in his most recent post on the topic. Since the Indy refurb seems to be happening this fall, January makes more sense for Big Thunder, and I'm hoping that's true.

Bummer, it's ok though - we'll have more time for DCA!! Probably won't head back to DLR until 2014 *my birthday/early August* we're headed back to WDW next year :cool1:

This is how I feel and sent Disneyland an email about it. I understand the need for rehab/refurb but I rarely go to a rides individual web page because I already know about the ride. Now, the calendar I have been checking daily because of the Indy rumors. Thank goodness for the DIS because otherwise I would have never thought to go to the Indy ride page on the Disneyland website.
