I need help on this, my dd wants the nook however I got the kindle 2 with 3g for 130 brand new of craigslist. I know that was a great deal but want to make sure she will like it.

What is the difference between the 2? Dd wants it for college next year. She said she wants to get text books and stuff. Will this one be good for that? Thanks

You may want to do a thread search there have been a lot of threads regarding e-readers lately with a lot of helpful information.

You CAN'T read the etextbooks on a Nook. The etextbooks are designed to be read on a computer. Check out the Nook Study website for that information. Nothing wrong with getting one for college, just didn't want you to buy one on Craigslist with no way to return it and find out you can't use it for textbooks.

Check to make sure the Kindle is able to be registered in the Amazon store. There have been rampant reports of people buying from Craigslist and then not being able to register them because they were reported as stolen. Really at $130 I don't know that I'd recommend a used Kindle 2 when you can buy a new WiFi Kindle 3 for $139 and get the full warranty and the upgraded eInk Pearl screen.

As for suitability it depends on what your daughter is planning. Barnes has an electronic textbook program called Nookstudy which displays some textbooks via computer. Other texts (Especially Literature, History, Sociology) etc are available via eBook. Some are strictly Kindle, some strictly ePub, some both. My son has a Kindle which he loads many of his Poly Sci, Philosophy and other reading list type of books onto - but then he also has apps for his laptop which displays his other texts.

Given that your daughter asked for a nook and not a Kindle makes me wonder if she has already researched which would work best for her.

I agree with this. Many college bookstores are run by Barnes and Nobel (Nook) so reading free books in BN, plus having access on campus to help is a big plus. My guess is she thought the Nook Study was for the Nook, but it is not.
