are Delta and United the only airlines that fly non-stop LAX to MCO??

not sure, but whats the quote ur getting? When u traveling? :confused3 Just curious

not seriously looking yet, we won't fly until April 2008, however I have been watching the prices just to see what to expect! We would like to take a redeye flight, and travelling with 2 kids it's better to do it non-stop! So far, Delta and United are the only 2 I see that offer non-stop!

I checked Orbitz for this April, those are the only 2 airlines they show non-stop.

AA has a non-stop LAX-MCO, but it is not a red-eye.

Just a word of advice on booking in advance: I booked United on the redeye for a trip in 2003 with my almost 3YO neice. We booked in early June for a trip in early Oct. Within 2 weeks of booking, United had discontinued the red-eye and we had to rebook to their daytime nonstop (or take a redeye to DC and then connect, yuk!).

I think that redeyes are great when travelling with small kids if at least one of the parents sleeps okay on the plane or you are meeting other family members at the other end and can dump the kids on them while you catch up on sleep. We were meeting my neice's GPs at MCO, so the red eye would have been perfect. I agree with the OP that a connecting redeye is almost a sure perscription for some crankiness by at least one family member.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

my DH can sleep on the plane. We plan on the kids and I to take up one row, and have DH sit someplace else so he can sleep! We hope to book a suite at a hotel and hope to check in early. DH can then take the kids to the pool while I get some sleep! My kids will be 8 and 12, so I hope they can manage to sleep a bit on the plane too!

Delta and United are the only ones that fly out of LAX non-stop. They have two flights each. Must be flying in tandem because the first ones land around 0600 and the other ones land around 1730, Alaska Airlines has a non-stop out of Seattle. Surprisingly only 5 non-stops from the west coast into MCO out of about 200 flights arriving in daily.

To the OP: Just remember that the nonstop flight out of LAX to MCO is slightly less than 5 hours long. Unless your kids are veteran travellers, I would expect the excitement of being on a plane will keep them from falling asleep immediately, so figure they might get 4 hours of sleep. How do you think they will do with napping both before and after the flight?

As I previously posted, my expereince on a red eye was with a toddler who was used to napping just about anywhere (she fell asleep with her head on the dinner table one night at WDW), so she easily made up for the lack of sleep she had suffered on the flight.

You might want to ask in another post for those with experiences with kids 8 and 12 on a red eye.

Also, there is no guarantee that you will be able to check in before 8 am to any hotel when you arrive unless you book the room for the night before (and tell them that is what you are doing so they don't mark you down as a no-show). That said, after my one experience with a red-eye to MCO, I was able to check in to the BW at about 7:30 AM and even though the hotel was very full, they had a room ready for me.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
