non smoking room

We just rec'd our confirmation for CBR/YC but it states NON Smoking is a PRF request only. What does this mean? We definitely want non-smoking it's not just that we prefer it. Should I call or am I misunderstanding????

The only non-smoking requests that are guaranteed are those required for medical reasons. We always request non-smoking and have always had our request met. The vast majority of non-smoking requests are met - it is only rarely that they are not. IMHO, there really isn't anything to worry about.

From what I've read, they will only guarantee Non-smoking if there is a medical reason. For me it is much more than a "preference" too, but I won't die of an asthma attack - it will just make my hotel stay very unpleasant if my room is smoky. I wonder why they can't guarantee when most hotels do? I have not had a problem at WDW in the past, though, so I'm hoping for the best.

I stayed at YC in Nov. and supposedly had a guaranteed non-smoking room due to my asthma. I was given a smoking optional room. I decided to give it a try instead of making a scene and I didn't have a problem at all.

The room didn't smell at all smoky and I'm REALLY sensitive to it. So, if you get to the resort and you end up with smoking optional, try it, if there's a problem, you can always say so and request to be moved to another room.

I've gone so far as to switch hotels if my stay wasn't comfortable! I moved from Poly to GF when kids were playing basketball in the hallway at midnight and the Poly told me to "find another room at another hotel if you can."

So, if they won't guarantee you non-smoking and you don't like the smell of the room and they won't move you to another room, switch hotels! We pay far too much money to spend our time in misery when there are dozens of other hotels willing to take the money from us!

AlleyandJack...Thanks for the info...we're going at peak times tho so I'm not sure there would be another room available. But I'm not going to worry about it, like you said. How did you like YC?

I have always insisted on a non-smoking confirmation. My wife just hates the small of a smoking room. Smoking optional just sounds like smoking to me. A "nicer" way to say smoking allowed here.

Anyway, if you push the cro, they will guarantee it.

What the heck is that? I guess it's different from a smoking room where you MUST SMOKE in order to stay there? I've never heard of a smoking optional room!

Disney seems funny to me...they do so much to make it a magical place, but in this day and age they won't guarantee a non smoking room...guess it's too big for that.

The whole thing seems foolish anyway because nobody asked me for any proof of my asthma. Anyone can just call up and say they have it and get their non-smoking room guaranteed. They might as well just guarantee it for everyone who makes the request or start asking for notes from doctors or some other sort of proof to make it legit.


Personally, asthma or no asthma, I think if someone wants a non-smoking room, they should get it guaranteed. This isn't some view or some particular location, this is health and comfort. But, I don't run Disney and, for once, I'm glad I have asthma.
