Noisy Hotel Neighbors--WWYD?

I travel to the same hotel every other week for work. On the Fridays that I come home, I take a 6am flight. Last night I barely got any sleep due to an, hmm...how should I put it....overly amorous couple in the hotel room next door.

At 2am I was awoken by some very loud noises. I will call them "romantic noises" to keep this as PG as possible. It wasn't the type of noise that if you listened really closely you could hear something going on...this was LOUD. Honestly, it sounded like I was in the room with them and it was all around very gross and uncomfortable for me. The woman was especially loud and DRAMATIC.

I think it was especially bad because the room I was given was one of those adjoining rooms so sound could travel through the doorway. However, I have been in those types of rooms before and have never experienced anything like this.

When this was still going on at 2:30 (and I had to get up at 4:30) I stood by the door and yelled "SHUT UP! PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP." I am not sure if they heard me. I then blared some podcasts and YouTube videos for a few minutes right by the door so maybe they would get the hint that if they could hear that...then someone else could probably hear them.

When the activity next door was finally complete the woman proceeded to having a coughing attack (my guess is too much strain on her vocal chords). I downloaded a white-noise app on my iPad to help somewhat and turned on the fan and finally fell asleep for another hour or so of rest.

When I left the hotel this AM I put a note under their door that said, "Please be more considerate of your neighbors the next time you are "active" at 2AM again. Thank you."

Question: Am I totally rude and/or crazy to have done that?

I understand that these sorts of activities go on at hotels--most of us have been there. Nor do I think that it's an activity to be done in utter silence, but seriously, the noise level of this couple was UNREAL.

I certainly understand the aggravation. I think we have all stayed in hotels were the noise level has been an issue.

I just dont' think I'd carry on in such a fashion. I simply don't care. Of course I'd probably just giggle like a teenage boy. I think it would take too much effort to bang on walls and yell and play things loudly. I'd simply turn on the radio or tv or whatever and go back to sleep. I'm lazy like that though.

If you stay there that often, I'm sure the staff knows you, you are a member of their frequent guest program, and they want to make you happy...am I right? Ask for a non-adjoining room. And, why on earth would you have not called down to the front desk to complain about the noise? It's the hotel's job to make sure all the guests have a pleasant experience. Let them do their job.

Ugh. This is why I always travel with my white noise machine.

I think what you did was fine, you were just letting them know how thin those wall were. I know everyone wants to have their own fun but have a little consideration for your neighbors (especially after 10 pm). I can't imagine what I would have told my kids in that situation.

Oh my word! I don't think you are rude or crazy, but I would have called the front desk at 2am if it woke me up. I would have called back every 5 minutes until it stopped.

I've never had that issue in a hotel, but my dh "fondly" remembers the night dd was born. Dh stayed on the sleeper sofa in my room instead of going home. I guess a birth was going on in the next room and the mother was very vocal. There was quite a bit of not Disney friendly language being used as well. I guess I was worn out from my own delivery because I slept through the whole thing. I guess it was over by the time the nurse came in and woke me up at 2am to ask me if I had a living will. Never did quite figure what that was all about:confused3.

I would have called the front desk and asked them to send someone up to tell the people to be quiet as they were disturbing their neighbors.

I would have called the front desk and let them handle it, no need to go into detail, just a simple, "the folks in room 123 are disturbing me and being disruptive and I'm trying to sleep, could you send someone up?"

How do you get up at 4:30 am to make a 6 am flight?

Have to agree with the others. Why didn't you just call down to the front desk? Certainly any reputable hotel would take care of a significant noise issue. If they didn't take care of this very reasonable customer complaint, I would be staying somewhere else next time.

I agree.

Answering rudeness with rudeness is rarely a good solution. When you became loud, you became just as big of a problem as they were and you were having less fun doing it.

I really think if someone is that loud, they want to be heard, it makes it more "exciting" for them. :sad2:

I'm lazy too. I might stew about it for a bit but that's about it.

If I had dd13 with me, I would call down to the desk. If not, I would be yelling: you know he knows you are faking that lol.or say something else to that affect.

I don't understand why you didn't just call the front desk instead of jumping through the hoops of playng music, podcasts, and leaving notes. I think you just escalated this situation instead of correcting it.

I agree.

And possibly woke up the neighbours on the other side - who were totally blameless in the situation.

Had to take an early flight out of Atlantic City so we stayed at one of those not-so-great motels down the street. The people above had their TV on as loud as could possibly be so I called the front desk to complain. They called upstairs and the people somehow turned the TV on louder and made even more noise on purpose. Not sure what the moral of my story is but some people just don't care.

I was so tired...I now bring sleeping pills and a white noise fan anytime I stay in a hotel, not that it really would have helped.

My first thought was that the 'gentleman' was probably paying for the loud noise. :lmao:

I would have just rolled over and gone to sleep.
I sleep in a lot of hotels and have heard people tons of times - a few at WDW.

Hey - good for them.

Just can't let it bother me. Years of dorm living means I can pretty much sleep anywhere.
