Nobby's Gnomies... heading to WDW in April 2010

Hey LL. I have 16 minutes left of work then I am on vacation.

15 hours, 5 minutes until my plane leaves for Disneyland. WOO HOO. I will take lots of pictures for you. Especially of the Candy Cane Inn and the A Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour.

SEE YOU MAY 11th.

I seriously need to vent. I can not STAND my supervisor. I do not work with her, since she's not any of my research committee, but she's considered our boss when it comes to her being "Program Director" and thus, she's in charge of hiring the Graduate Students. She's the plant Professor here and a huge pain in the butt. She's like the wicked *itch of the west. She has the most sour attitude. For example, if somebody microwaves something and doesn't clean their mess up right away, she has to write a note on the microwave. Her last one says and I quote "For those of you that don't realize it, this is NOT a self-cleaning microwave. If you don't clean up your mess, then don't use it! I'm tired of this mess! Your Mother"

Now is that really necessary??:sad2:

So I email her because our vacation happens to fall during the 3 days that they're hiring new Graduate Assistants. The 3 of us that are hired currently never met the old GA's. So I get an email yesterday that says the 3 of us need to find a time and pick between May 11, 12th or 13th when we're going to meet individually with the new possible students. My co-worker said "I don't think it's a big deal, it's after finals, they can't expect us to be there, especially when she JUST sent the email out and not expect us to not have plans." Of course if I would have known ahead of time, I wouldn't have scheduled the trip during it. So, I tell her, I already have a vacation planned the 11th-14th and ask if there is any other time I can meet them or is there something else I can do or if I can even write up a big thing and have my coworkers include it when they talk to them...
I get an email back today that say "You're taking a vacation, when you have a lot of research to do? Do you really think that's a good idea?" And that it. :scared1:

Are you kidding me? She can't say anything nice at all, she has to immediately attack me and not consider that it's the end of the semester and maybe I need FOUR DAYS to take a break and re-coop before I work my BUTT off this summer NON-STOP. I realize that I am a little behind, but I have a life too. I am sooo sick and tired of this woman. I can not wait until this job is over so that I don't have to deal with her anymore!!!

Just something to make myself feel better. If you look her up on ratemyprofessors, her overall rating as a teacher out of 5 is 1.9, here's some of the comments made by the undergrads:

-Dr F is the most condescending professor I've ever had at Hood College. I must admit she knows her stuff. However as a student, I sometimes needed support and guidance that definitely didn't receive from her because she would just make you feel stupid for not knowing it in the first place.
-I challenged the teacher one time in class...about not knowing and the book not helping. The teacher/student relationship went downhill rather quickly after that. Instead of rising to the challenge to have me see it different, I was pushed aside as inattentive.
-Mental unstable. Prejudiced. Incoherant lectures. Brings her personal problems to the classroom. Loses composure during lectures and leaves. Unreachable after class. Disrespectful to students 18 to 21 years of age.
-I was a Biology Major until she told me I had no chance of ever going to medical school and I should pick a new major. Kinda rough. She wasn't very supportive of me. I asked a lot of questions and she turned me away. If it's your major, good luck, otherwise I'd advise you to take something else for your core science
-Complete and utter witch. Tells you one thing, and then grades you on something else. Do not take this class with her. Its better to take it as two seperate classes some where else then to even try to figure out what shes talking about. Doesn't care about her students at all.
-Horrible teacher. Doesn't know what she is talking about. Completely unsympathetic when a student has a problem. Avoid her class. If you can't tape record everything she says, she changesher mind alot and you get screwed because of it!!!

And love this one:
-UGH I HATE HER

One of my coworkers today told me that he thinks everybody including teacher and student hates her. If she's like this to her colleagues, I can't imagine having her as a teacher, I'm just so glad I never had her. :sad2:

Oh Jess! That is completely horrible. That woman sounds wretched! We should put my boss and her on a boat and set them out to sea! :lmao: I am so sorry you having to deal with that. Did you respond to her email yet?

   :grouphug:

Okay well now I'm getting nervous...its in Alabama...of course northern Alabama but none the less that means its next stop might be Florida and I am not okay with that. I do not want school to close down for 10 days, because yes that would run into my summer and that would not do at all...I have plans and a convention I'm supposed to go to the 3rd week of June and 10 days of closures...so I'm really hoping no reports in Florida...none at all LOL!!

Oh no just read that they have 3 possible cases in Florida...all in Southern Florida and they have confirmed cases in South Carolina. Now I enjoy studying this and watching the patterns but when it starts to intervere with my summer vacation well I am just not okay with that LOL

LL did the package come today...please say it came today or I might cry LOL

Jess, what a horrible woman!!!

Jen, I am right there with you -- this thing cannot interfere with my summer plans and that includes it being in Florida! Georgia's first case was confirmed today. :headache:

I have no idea what to say without either raising my temper or getting my feeling hurt :confused3
But, I don't think she deserves a response after that one.

Oh Jess, that sucks! If she is not your thesis advisor or work supervisor, what business is it of hers where you are in your research? You deserve a short break at the end of the semester...enjoy it!!!

jen and CP, no freaking allowed!!

So if you read my facebook status, you may have seen how my day went. It was pretty funny but I started wishing for a special dinner from my Mommy and ended up with an invitation to their house for the exact dinner I wanted. My Aunt helped guilt her into it, it was pretty funny. So anyways, I picked up Patrick from school and we drove the 45 minutes to their house then left by 7:30. The boys were very happy to see them again, they just got home from Florida on Monday so this was the first the boys have seen them since Christmas. I totally blew the diet tonight but it was SO worth it!

Get some rest dear gnomies and have a great Friday! I'm debating whether I need to go into work or not. I probably only have 2 hours of work to do...do I really want to drive 2 hours when I can do it from home? I'm really only considering it so my supervisor doesn't wonder why they are paying me and because I need to check my mail. We'll see...

I just checked my e-mail and found another PIN code. :sad2: It was for free dining between early Oct (when public free dining ends) and Thanksgiving. did anyone else get this? It was interesting because it was for free quick-service with a value stay and free standard dining with a moderate (too bad no deluxe dining with a deluxe stay, not that I could afford it!)

I sure hope Disney remembers me when they send out offers valid during gnomefest!

Hi guys! :wave2:

Sorry I've been absent, I've been swamped at work AND at home! I've totally gotten into scrapbooking last year's trip and it's fun but time-consuming! Also Rachael's birthday party has blown into an End Of School Bash complete with carnival games, a bounce house, and anywhere from 5-20 kids!!!

Hopefully I'll have more time to "hang out" tommorow cuz there's only 2 docs in. I'm so far behind I'm not gonna try to catch up. I'm sure ya'll will fill me in if there's anything I need to know! Anyone want to do a gnomette by gnomette play by play for me?

G'night ladies!

Hi gang! Happy Friday!!!

Jess- sorry the work situation is so :scared:. That woman really doesn't sound like fun.

Katie - hurrah for some comfort food from your mom! Hope you're able to do your work from home today!

CP & Jen- guess what? A school in the next town over- I live so close to the line I could throw a ball into it- is closed w/ a probable case of swine flu. :scared1: Oh and by the way, I ALWAYS sing happy birthday while washing my hands (but only once).

LL- enjoy your day at work with your supervisor out! You are probably Disney planning/packing this weekend! :woohoo:

Julez- Rachael's b-day party sounds awesome. Of course we'll need pictures! Would love to see your scrapbook pages too! :goodvibes

Hope everyone else is doing well too!! :)
----------

By the way, seems like everyone got a pin code but me. :sad1: Doesn't Mickey love me anymore?? :sad2:

My friend who is just starting to plan hers got a buy 5 get 2 plus a giftcard promo but not the free dining Katie mentioned. There must be a few out there.

Happy Friday gnomies!!

Jess...sounds awful:hug: hang in there..the heck with the wicked witch!!

CP and Jen... it's gonna be OK! The flu is just a blip on the ole communicable disease radar...it will pass. By the way...I sing Yankee Doodle..once;)

katie..peer pressure...don't go to work 2day!!

Julez... can't wait to see some srapbooking pics...Rach's party sounds like it's taken on a life of it's own:rotfl2:

Hi Christine and LL!!

Paula

Well, as I was laying in bed this morning debating work today, it occurred to me that I have to pick up a key for an event I am in charge of tomorrow. So I do have to go in but I am thinking I might do a slow morning, maybe even run to the grocery store before heading to work. I should be around a bit this afternoon if anyone else is bored.

Something for my Piglet friends to remember this morning that I just heard on the news: "fear is spreading faster than the virus itself". Pack your Purell and have a great day!

Marc & I both got pincodes but I don't think it was for free dining. I plan on calling this weekend to see what the deal includes, if it included free dining I MIGHT be able to convince Marc.

I am so thankful it is Friday. It's been a really long week.

NO FREAKING about Swine Flu, CP & JEN! Not allowed. It will not ruin our upcoming trips. :thumbsup2

Hi gang! Happy Friday!!!

Thank goodness -- I need a couple of days off! This week really did me in!

CP & Jen- guess what? A school in the next town over- I live so close to the line I could throw a ball into it- is closed w/ a probable case of swine flu. :scared1: Oh and by the way, I ALWAYS sing happy birthday while washing my hands (but only once).

 I am not a germophobe by any stretch of the imagination -- I have always been one of those people that believe exposure to germs will just strenghten your immune system -- but holy cow -- this swine flu thing -- I mean the H1N1 thing ;) is a bit much.

CP and Jen... it's gonna be OK! The flu is just a blip on the ole communicable disease radar...it will pass. By the way...I sing Yankee Doodle..once;)

That is what I am inclined to believe -- I guess what I am wondering is -- why the talk of pandemic if it is just another strain of flu? Is it because it is a new strain so they are being extra careful as they watch it migrate? :confused3

I had to go to Target last night to get a gift card for one of Chelsea's little friends, and bought one big bottle of Purell and two little travel sizes (for Disney) -- apparently there is no fear in my county since the shelves were fully stocked (I read in some other places around the country, it is sold out). I hope that in five weeks this is old news! Really and truly!

YAY for calmer heads prevailing!! I told LL last night that I was going to hit up Wal-mart and buy Germex for my room and that is what I did...I now have to big bottles by my door for students who would like to use it going in and out of my room and I have soap and paper towels and discussed with my students the importance of washing hands regularly and staying home when sick...they seem to get it and are practicing what I preach so that was good...great lesson for a science class..review the differences between viruses and bacteria...WOOT for real life experiences LOL!!

Katie enjoy your slow day...and the grocery store. I'm going to go back to Wally World on my way home to get things for this weekend. I think I'm going to make a pizza fondue for dinner and see if Phillip likes it LOL!! Although I've been really wanting meatloaf...anyone have an easy recipe for that LOL

Meatloaf

:lmao: That is one meal that I absolutely HATE!

I am intrigued by Pizza Fondue...how do you do that?

I am so glad that you got your germex, Jen. I am going to pick up some more for Disney. :thumbsup2

I really want to call about that pincode offer. :rolleyes1

Hi everybody! Nice to see updates on all of you in one page!

Swine flu- yes, it's spooky. But better not to get too freaked out about it. Also, I watched a thing on .... 20/20? last night about it, and apparently, the head of the CDC was on tv this morning disputing at least one thing they said. Don't worry your little gnomie heads, ladies.

Yes, Rachael's party has def. taken on a life of it's own. I WANT at least 5 guests to feel like it's worth it, but if her whole class shows up I will have a heart attack. We used Amazon's wish list this year for both her grandparent's and they did good, each getting 2 things on her list that she really really wanted. I picked up some clothes for her and she's getting a new bike, but Dad and I are arguing about the bike. Jim wants to get her some Hello Kitty bike that's "awesome" but it's at least $80 and I want to get her a Bratz bike that's about $50. I think she'll like the Bratz for the next 2-3 years until it's time for another size up, but he thinks she'll like the Hello Kitty longer. We'll see.

Yea, I'll take pix of my scrapbook pages for an update, as well as try to get some pix off of our new digital SLR to update as well. Updates are slow because my laptop's power cord to the AC Adaptor broke a month + ago and now I'm waiting for the new one in the mail because I FINALLY ordered it last week. I really hope it comes today. I miss my fast little Compaq

Pizza Fondue?? I am also wondering about this!!

Here's our meatloaf recipe:
For every 1-1.5 lbs of groundbeef, take 1 egg, a handful of breadcrumbs (we use italian ones), 1/2 an onion diced finely, a dash of worchester sauce, a big squirt of ketschup and about 3 teaspoons of dijon mustard, blend together..I put mine in a small pyrex pan just kinda made into a meatloaf shape, squirt ketschup on top in a fancy squiggly pattern :rotfl: and put in the oven for 45 mins to an hour...about 1/2 way through, I pour the grease out if any accumulates :thumbsup2
