No upgrade with points at Dolphin

So disappointed... Called Starwood today to try to use my points to upgrade. We arrive in 5 days. Told there were no upgrades available but we may have some luck if we try at check-in. Has anyone ever gotten an upgrade that way? Would it do any good to try again before we leave?

How do I e-mail the Dolphin with our room request and when?

Thanks for all your help and support!

I requested an upgrade from a standard to a balcony room at check-in. I had enough points. A balcony room was available, but the CM said it was on a lower floor with an obstructed view.

The CM told me to go check my "standard" room and if I still wanted a balcony, return to the desk.

Well, my "standard" room was on the 19th floor with a view of both MGM and Epcot. I kept it.

However, the point of my story is that you CAN ask for an upgrade at check-in.

We are Starwood members and have received an upgrade to a balcony room, with no points, at checkin at the Swan. And, we never even asked for the upgrade! I have never been able to figure how upgrades work, at WDW or anywhere else for that matter. I speculate much of it has to do with occupancy rates, and if they are not full it probably makes good business sense to give an upgrade in hopes you will return again.

If you are arriving in 5 days (President's week), the hotel is probably full or nearly so. That's why they can't/won't upgrade you now. My advice is to arrive as early in the day as you can and ask at check in. Good luck!

I hope all does work well for you at check-in. We are going over easter, school vacation and am fretting over the same issue. I have been accumulating point for 2 years now and i hope to be able to redeem them. I don't understand why they make you wait until 5 days prior, there is no mention of that anywhere on their website.

stringercapecod -

I agree with Carol - the hotel might be full during Pres. week.
Call the hotel directly and ask. The last two times at the Dolphin we asked for upgrade and received without using points. Once to a club level room and once to a lake view with balcony both from standard rooms. Be sure to smile with your best Disney face on. Have fun.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences with upgrades. I still have hope that we will have a beautiful room with a great view. Most of the time spent in the room I have my eyes closed anyway!

I received an unusual call last night from a woman identifying herself as a Starwood Concierge. After being on the phone for quite some time discussing our trip to the Dolphin, transportation arrangements, restaurants, etc. I learned the reason for her call was to invite me to a Time Share presentation.
Just wanted to let you all know. Did this ever happen to you?

Oh, yes. I made sure she knew I had just spoken to someone at Starwood that very day and my disappointment at not bieng able to upgrade. She gave me a number to call (direct to the Dolphin) to try again. Haven't tried yet but I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Thanks again one and all...
