Wife & I were watching My First Place on HGTV I believe. This couple looked at a new house in FL & some of the HOA rules had us :confused3

No SUV's or grills - They managed to get them removed but does anyone else have a no SUV or grill bylaw? I have heard of no parking in street/driveway but not allowing a certain type of vehicle is a new one to me.

Sorry it was Property Virgins.

I saw that one. I can not believe they would make such rules. Really no grills or SUVs, I think it was trucks as well.

Seriously? I've never heard of such a thing. I wonder where this is.

It was somewhere in S Florida. The crazy thing was that they were able to negotiate the rules not applying to them in order to build in that subdivision. Imagine how the neighbors will react when they didn't realize this was a possibility and sold their trucks before buying into the neighborhood.

It was Property Virgins.

They also were not allowed to bring in outside home inspectors.

In our neighborhood, in Ohio, we are not allowed to have trucks parked more than 8 hours. Which means no one around here has a pickup truck. We also can't have campers or boats parked in our driveways.

My question about the HOA thing was they waived the SUV rule for them and I am wondering how that is going to go over with the other homeowners.:confused3

YES sorry Property Virgins - We thought the same thing, they will probably get all the neighbors talking about them!~!

When we lived in condos with a HOA grills were not allowed because of safety issues. We were not allowed any company vehicles without getting written permission from the board and they could not be over a certain length regardless if you get written permission. Also on our no no list were snakes, lizards, birds, water beds, etc. I could go on forever. The builder who started the project eventually sold it to some other builder who then started a different HOA and they had different rules.

There is a 55 and older community here, same thing happened. Started by one builder, bought out by another. The new builder was the one who built the clubhouse and pool and somehow made it that the people who bought from the orginal builders could not use the clubhouse and pool.

My parents have a vacation home in Jupiter that they cant park their Escalade at. Tiger Woods actually parks his yacht there too.

Totally ridiculous.

What is that?

Our HOA does not allow charcoal grills but will let us have gas grills. According to them, the insurance company will not cover us if we have charcoal grills due to the fire risk. This rule was put in place just last year and is not very popular. We tried explaining that gas grills are dangerous too, but they would not listen.

The people we bought our house from in GA were moving to Boca Raton and they were told no pick up trucks in the driveway, it could be parked in the garage but not the driveway.

Darn iPhone!! Safety issues lol

who thinks of these stupid rules?! :sad2::sad2::sad2:

we wouldn't be wanted at the property virgins place, SUV and a truck here.

What if they had an SUV without a grille? Might get some crap in the radiator though

:p

No SUVs, sounds like a great idea. Now if only car companies followed that rule. Bring back the wagons.

We are in a small association (72 condo units in 7 buildings) in Vero Beach. There are no pickup trucks, no motorcycles, no gas or charcoal grills (we bought an electric one which works OK but it isn't the same). We all have garages, thus theoretically at least two parking spaces. Some people keep forbidden stuff in the garage, but then need more parking. Or the garage is full of junk. On-street parking is not allowed.

Everyone knows all the rules before buying. It is really annoying when new owners "push the envelope" and get angry when told they cannot do something.

It's actually a nice quiet community. We like it.

My wife actually lived in an apartment, in a complex being converted to condos, where the management reserved the right to ban your vehicle (no matter what type it was) if it was too ratty. Commercial vehicles were banned. Missing hubcap was an automatic no parking in the complex rule. Faded or peeling paint, automatic no parking in the complex. Dents and big scratches were at the judgement of the management, but the message was, if you car had a dent or scratch, they expected you to get if fixed as soon as possible.
This was back in 1981, and my wife was driving an 11 year old Ford Maverick at the time. I washed and waxed it before she had it inspected, and I think the property manager was surprised she couldn't find a reason to ban the car!

Sorry it was Property Virgins.

My mom and dad live in an apartment and they have to get their grills off of their patios this week otherwise they are sending people in to confiscate them.

My mom told me this yesterday. It is a new rule.

I'm pretty sure everyone that lives in our lake community owns either a truck or SUV or both (we own both). I would be willing to bet that at least 75% of us also own grills (seriously, who doesn't own a grill??) :rolleyes1 It's almost impossible to live here and not have 4x4
