No SUV's?

I am not normally a HOA hater, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm starting to look into buying a house here in SE Fla. My friend asked if i was gong to look into townhouses/condos bc its just me. i said i dont want a HOA telling me what to do.

A 15 year old minivan and a 4 day old Excursion SUV. I LOVE both!

No grill?!!! That is just not American to not grill in the summer!!!

I am thrilled that no grills are allowed here on the balconies. These are wood building that would go up in a fire in about a second. It is WAY too dangerous to have a grill.

My condo in New Orleans has a tiny, tiny balcony, but we can have a grill as the building is solid brick and is not very flammable.

Not sure about the car thing - but grills can be a major fire hazard.

They also were not allowed to bring in outside home inspectors.

In our neighborhood, in Ohio, we are not allowed to have trucks parked more than 8 hours. Which means no one around here has a pickup truck. We also can't have campers or boats parked in our driveways.

My question about the HOA thing was they waived the SUV rule for them and I am wondering how that is going to go over with the other homeowners.

Why no outside home inspectors? If you are spending a large amount of money on a property you would want and indepentant inspector. One used by a hoa could be very biased and not tell you of some major problems.

Here, the rule is no vehicles without up-to-date valid license plates, and no vehicles with commercial license plates.

Grills hang in a very tight balance: State law requires that they be operated at least a certain distance away from the siding of an attached townhouse, and bylaws prohibit storage of the grills on common space. A grill that is deeper than the standard grill probably can't legitimately be operated on the decks, but surely if the distance requirement is increased by the state any significant amount, they surely won't be. So in that case, using the grill would require transporting it back and forth all the time... dangerous and tedious.

The son of one of my co-workers lost everything do to a fire at his apartment complex started by a grill.

The complex had a no grill policy, but the guy who started it had one any how and would hide the thing. Had a small charcole grill and after using it, would dump water on the coals then let them cool, before dumping them into a brown bag to take to the trash.

From the fire report, he didn't make sure the coals were completely out before dumping into the bag, then he left the bag sitting on the wooden deck and left the apartment. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what came next.

9 aparments totally lost and several others had damage from smoke and water, all because one guy HAD to have his grill.
