What does everyone do with the little ones to protect from the sun at WDW? My son is 13months.
Is there any suntan lotions for kids that you swear by?
What about the sunshade on the stroller, Has anyone gotten one of the ones that goes on and gives extra protection?
Any nightmare stories? yikes.

I have always loved and used the Coopertone Waterbabies..It is in a pink bottle and has great spf....up to 50. they have it in a stick. spray, and the usual squeeze bottle. We spend alot of time outside in the summer and this is a staple at my house.

Also, you might want to think about this- I recently picked up a few rashguard shirts at Gymboree (currently on markdown, too). They're shirts with an SPF of 50 in the fabric itself. My son is very fair & has actually gotten sunburned through clothing if it's too thin so I thought these would be great for a FL trip. Also, he likes them because they look like wetsuits ;) .

We like the Blue Lizard Australian suncream for sensitive skin since the whole family can use it & it doesn't bother his skin. Don't forget to get something for lips as well.

Good luck!

Our pediatric dermatologist likes Neutrogena with helioplex. It doesn't break down as quickly. All my kids (including my red head) wear the rash guard shirts in the sun. You see more and more kids in them, so my guys don't mind wearing them.

When my kids were toddlers, I bought them long sleeve, long leg suits from www.alexandme.com.

www.cwdkids.com has the short outfits and often runs them on sale.

We are all VERY fair skinned and I love Banana Boat Kids - SPF 50. I use it in WDW and it works great! Waterproof, sweatproof, won't burn the eyes. My girls have very sensitive skin and one of my daughters have really bad eczema and it works great. I would apply it at the hotel before we left for the park and then stick it in my bag to reapply a few times through out the day! :thumbsup2

ITA - we have 4 very fair skinned kids. The Banana Boat kids works great. It isn't greasy like the Waterbabies!

Rit also make a sun protrection dye for clothes to make them more sun proof. I always put DD sunscreen on before she gets dressed because the sun screen factor in most clothes is not very high.

Thanks everyone.

I got those spf shirts I wasn't sure how they worked but now I think I'll go pick up another set.
I will go take a look at the lotions you mentioned too.

Has anyone ever used those sunshade things for the stroller? I guess it attaches and covers the baby more? I was afraid he wouldn't be able to see anything with those things.

We like Aveeno. My DD would get rashes after every other sunblock we tried until we found this one. Luckily, the rashes weren't bad and went away after we got the stuff off her AND didn't itch, but still!

I was at the dermatologist's office the other day (I had to get a bad mole on my chest removed, not fun, I now have two stitches that get pulled down and hurt if I'm not wearing a bra at all times :sad2: ) and they all reccomended Blue Lizard (for every age). It's only SPF 30 but it supposedly is all you need because of the ingredients, even for my fair kids, DH and I. :confused3

Otherwise, I'm a stickler for Hawaiian Tropic for general use, the baby formula seems to work well (I use it as well). For my face I use Clarins, I think it is yet another children's formula, which I really like. They're a little hard to find, I have the best luck at drugstores, but two more brands I like are Panama Jack and Ocean Potion. The Panama Jack spray is good for the kids and DH swears by Ocean Potion as he's outside most of the day.

Sunscreen sticks also make it really quick and easy to reapply to faces every few hours also.

we live in texas and we are always out in the sun. my 9yo son and 3 yo daughter both have fair skin and light blonde hair. my sons hair is so light we have to put sunscreen on his scalp. we use only one sunscreen its the best ever. its called BULL FROG:thumbsup2

Don't forget a hat for everyone, a good excuse for a souvenier if you like, and make sure everyone in the family is covered, baby needs mom and dad too!

I am 42 and in the past 6 months have had 3 bad moles, one severe...looking at the stitches on my arm as I type this. (SCARY!!!)

I haven't tried it yet (and I also don't have any children) but I have friends that sware by Aveeno's Sunscreen. It comes in SPF 70!!!

However, I have used Bull Frog since I was little and love it!

Good luck and have a great trip! :)

For sunscreen we use Aveeno baby (50 spf I believe?)
I used it on my 6 month old, too... and it's one of the only sunscreens that doesn't cause my almost 5 year old to break out.

As for the stroller shade...are you referring to the Rayshade??? If so, we got one for the trip and SWEAR by it! It was wonderful... We were able to adjust it as necessary to make sure whoever was in the stroller was shaded.... I wouldn't go back to WDW without it!! I look at it this way, if the shade needs to be pulled all the way down to block the sun, your kid most likely wouldn't be able to see anything due to the sun blaring in his/her eyes, so better to protect them than not!

Another recommendation for Blue Lizard. My son had 2nd degree sunburn one year-then we started using Blue Lizard and he hasn't had a burn since.

long sleeve rash guards are what we try to use, But we also use nutregena (sp?) on faces, legs, feet, hands, and scalps. Don't forget your ears too. We got our rash guards at Target.

I actually work for a Dermatologist & we sell the Blue Lizard line of products. We also have a line for extremely sensitive skin that my son with ezcema has to use. It's called Vanicream - it may only be sold in spas or Doctor's offices though. I'd never seen it until I began working there. One of the docs sent out an email last year of the consumer report on sunscreens. Neutrogena was at the top of the list - has UVB & UVA protection. Of course the key to any good sunscreen is to reapply. The other doc loves the coppertone sport spray - says it won't run into your eyes if you sweat or swim. They also say that as long as you have a 15 SPF you'll be ok if used properly. He says the higher SPF's only give about 8% more coverage. Everyone has their personal faves but I thought I'd throw this out there anyway. Good luck.

We use Neutrogena with helioplex 70 spf, but now they have made a 85 spf!!!
As soon as we use up the 70 we will change over.
My daughter now 2, has used it (70) since it came out with no problems.

It may have been at toy's are Us but some where I got a Umbrella for my wagon that had a clip. I used it on the stroller for the grandson in Oct at Disney and folks stoped and asked where we bought it.

It has the wagon name on it...what is the red wagon "Flyer?"
But maybe google for clip on umbrella.
other wise take plastic color clothes pins and receiving blanket to make a large shade.

Still use 50 water babies for our infants. toddlers I have been using the spray no rub in. Also, a sport stick or baby stick for tips of nose, ears and under the eyes. It does not wear or sweat off.
