No Show Today 09/15/15

Jess: Are you sure it was them? When I saw the name mentioned I thought maybe there was another group using something that looked like their name.
Theme park tourist called them out, I'm pretty sure. I'll go back and find the article. They aren't the ones doing the scalping, they just posted an article talking about it

Here you go :0

A ladder gave way and he feel and broke both wrists :-( how horrible.
But it could have been so much worse (my sister works as a physiotherapist specializing in people with brain injuries, it's sad how some people do day to day things and have terrible, horrifying outcomes), glad he's mostly ok! Though, not being able to use chopsticks must be killing him
That's terrible. Sending good wishes your way.

Are you saying Theme Park tourist called out the DIS as being the ones doing this? I couldn't get your article to open. I'm pretty sure it's not our DIS that's doing this. I did hear that the company doing it was being investigated by Disney, but again I didn't specifically think it was our DIS.

Edited: I googled the article and found it. I only see theme park tourist talking about what scalpers are doing. I didn't see where they called out a specific company for it. Am I missing something?

Edited 2nd time: A secondary link in this article listed three companies, including a DiS Dining Agent but when I went to that website it doesn't look like it is related to Pete's DIS.

See my post about this. I think there is confusion due to the similar acronyms, but I am positive it's not this DIS.

Same. I saw an article about the scampers mid last week by themepark tourist (I think?) and asked the team their thoughts on it and then it came out that disney was investigating them, I was even more keen to hear a discussion on it.
Hopefully they talk about it next week

I specifically wonder about about the legality of it all (obviously a question for Jack). On the surface, I'm not sure there's anything illegal going on there. Is it any different than ticket brokers like Stub Hub and others? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, I'm sure Disney will want to put a stop to it. It will probably result in a more involved process for making ADRs. (thinking along the lines of those "Captcha" phrases and other measures). Additionally, would you be surprised if this website expanded to start doing the same with FP+ reservations?

Wishing Corey a speedy recovery!!! I love listening to the shows on my 45 minute commute to work and on my one-hour commute return home. You all make me laugh so much I forget all about Miami traffic, which by the way, rated top #10 worse cities to drive in!! I just joined the Podcast craze and therefore have been listening to DIS Unplugged Archives to get up to speed. My favorite thus far is the Clever and Odd Things to Pack for WDW Trip (duct tape, binoculars, scissors, corkscrew) nearly wet my pants during this show!!! Only thing missing was Peter Werner, I would have loved to hear his comments and tips! The 7 in 7 Shows assisted my husband and I a great deal when planning our upcoming couples getaway, after listening to your reviews we actually switched from staying at the Poly and are now staying at the Boardwalk!!! Whereas some will ask "ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY!?!?!?!" We will reply location, location, location!!!

Thanks for the laugh and keep those shows coming, must first and foremost, FEEL BETTER SOON. (:

John's back in Ireland, Corey's wrists...we need bubble wrap, STAT.
Seriously though, I hope everyone has a speedy recovery no matter what the ailment. These guys are the best, and between the regular DIS and the Universal edition these shows make my two hour commute fly by...

Sorry, I didn't mean that they called the DIS out or any other company specifically, nor did I think the DIS was doing it or get confused by the DiS one you said they linked to. They called "them" out. It's a figurative "them" kind of like when you said "they say you should wait 30 minutes after eating before going for a swim... Who is "they"?
I just meant, they put it out there that it's happening, therefore, calling it out.

I don't think the Captcha phrases would work because from what I understand, they're not automated bots doing this, it's actual people, so the Captcha phrases would be able to be entered correctly :-(

Got it. :thumbsup2 It just looked like Alicenwonderment thought you meant the DIS and then I thought you confirmed it was the DIS. See how things can get so twisted so quickly. :scared:

They claim they don't use bots, not sure I believe that.

Anyway...this is from their site:

Guaranteed ADR's ($15) - These ADRs are booked under their own email/MDE account under a specified name. When you pay the fee for this service, we will go in and set up the MDE account to reflect your name and address. This will not change the contact name the ADR was booked under (it cannot be changed, even by Disney). We provide you with the name the ADR was booked under, for example, John Doe (we generally use gender neutral names). When you check in at the restaurant, you will check in under the name John Doe since that is the name the ADR is booked under. John Doe is not required to be present to dine. Being that you will have full access to the email account and MDE account associated with the ADR, you can go in and update the Guest Names to your parties names. We do not suggest linking this MDE account to any other MDE accounts you have. This MDE account should be considered a spare or throw away account.

I think one of the changes Disney will need to make is right in there. Make it policy that the person whose name the ADR is booked under ("John Doe"), is required to be present when checking in to the restaurant. There will have to be other changes as well - such as possibly requiring a MDE account to make ADRs, and having that MDE account be linked to a Magicband/card that you scan at check in.

What I'm curious about is...what if you no-show? They would have needed to supply a valid CC at the time of booking the ADRs. So, if I use them and no-show...does their CC get charged the no-show fee since they're not really changing anything about the ADR, and just handing over the details of the bogus MDE account to you?

Good point RE: the CC details. I did have that thought when I first read the article, but I figured they'd probably do what DUT does and (with authority) gain access to your MDE (I'm fairly sure that's how it went when I booked through Dreams? please do correct me if I'm wrong though) and book it directly through your account?
The other thing that one company seems to be doing is booking the ADR's on their own MDE then doing what peeps do on the restaurants board and setting up a time that they'll release it and the person who has paid the money for it can snatch it up quickly. But even a blind person can see that could end in tears... it just takes one of a thousand other people doing their ADRs at the same time to "accidentally" snatch it up before the person who paid for it can. then what?

Not sure about people giving DU access to their MDE accounts so they can book ADRs for you. I would never do that. I like to make my own ADRs.

There have been a number of people on the restaurants boards who have reported missing out on ADRs even though they were coordinating with someone who was cancelling it at the same time. That's what leads me to believe there are bots being used - if not by Dis Dining Agent, then by a similar site. The whole thing is getting totally out of hand. I'm glad we just returned from our visit a couple of weeks ago and haven't yet nailed down when our next one will be. Hopefully there will be lots of changes to the ADR system by the time we do finalize plans to return.
