No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems: A Tremendously Tropical PTR

Oh darn! I forgot to give you an honorable mention in my post for convincing me to try CBR! I want everyone to know that if we don't like it, it was your fault! :rotfl:

Just kidding, I know we will like it! What's not to like, right? :confused3

I am actually kinda glad that the FD offer worked out the way it did. I really wanted to stay at CBR this time and I have a feeling that I would have talked myself out of it if I could have gotten the FD at Pop. But for only $300 difference, it was a no brainer! When I have priced it out on previous trips, it was $800-1,000 more to stay there, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It was meant to be this time! :woohoo:

So do you have any suggestions of what to order at the food court? I know you guys have eaten there several times, so you must have favorites?

I think you will love CBR!! :goodvibes

The food court is very good. Lots of choices! DH loves the hamburgers there. Well he mostly likes the toppings bar for the burgers! DS12 loves the pizza. If your DD orders a hamburger, hot dog, or chicken nuggets they come in a sand pail with a little shovel! The rotisserie chicken is very good. So is the pasta salad. There are huge muffins and cookies and things like that at the Grab&Go section. Make sure you get a fruit smoothie too! They are great!! They used to be included as a drink on the DDP. IDK if they are anymore. I'll find out NEXT WEEK!

The only thing I ever had from there that I didn't care for was a philly cheesesteak sandwich. I think they just don't know how to make them in FL!!

As for my favorite resort.....I would have to go with CBR! :goodvibes But we did also love POR. And the BWI -- excellent location! :thumbsup2 But I may have a new favorite once we get to the Poly. :cloud9: That is my favorite resort to visit!

I'm so glad to hear that you liked CBR. I think most people do, but there are some complaints about the size and the bus system. We'll see what we think soon enough, but I feel like we are going to be hooked!

We are really looking forward to that pool. It is so cool! pirate:

Glad you liked the food too. We usually eat several meals at the resort food courts so that's good to hear. Memom likes the rotis. chicken and veggies.... did you guys have a favorite?

It was a big place, and we were far away from the food court and pool, however the kids walked it several times without complaint so that's saying something!

We didn't have any problems with the buses getting to the park, but we were last to get off so it was extra long ride in the evenings, but it didn't bother us too much because we always had a place to sit. We never felt packed onto the bus like I did at Pop or All-Stars...and we were there in July!!! Busy, busy!

Favorite food....hmmm...it was all good, the rost. chicken was very good, I also had yummy turkey with mashed potatoes and veggies. The kids loved getting the hot dog meals because they came in a pail. Really cute!

Great updates (I'm a little behind). Love all your good news and LOVE CBR! You will too! The walking isn't too bad - you'll notice it at the end of a long park day, but...

My favorite resort (at this moment) is AKL! It's so unique, so relaxing...I love it! BUT, I also loved Beach Club and it's proximity to Epcot's IG entrance.

I had noticed that you hadn't been around the Dis in a few days. It's that time of year when everyone's schedules get crazy again. I'm getting ready to be right in there with you in a few days!

Glad to hear you liked CBR. I am really hoping that we get Jamaica so the walking isn't so bad. We could have paid extra for Martinique, but lots of Dis folks advised me that it wasn't really worth the money. I hope they are right.

I love AKL too. I have so many places that I would like to stay but that is way at the top of my list. It may actually be my #2 choice behind BC. I am very seriously going to look into renting points there for our next trip.

I think you will love CBR!! :goodvibes

I've read that about the sand pail kid's meals. I know DD is going to love that! And it keeps me from having to pack one for her to play with on the beach.

Everyone seems to like that rotis. chicken. I'll have to make sure I try that!

I feel that same way as you on the cheese steaks (but for me it's the bbq). When you are used to eating the real thing, it just isn't good anywhere else. I know you have had the best cheese steaks on the planet in PA, so I'm sure CBR can't compare. We had that same experience with the food at HDDR, Flame Tree, and the Backyard BBQ. We make some mean bbq chicken & bbq pork here in NC, so Disney's tasted like horse meat in comparison!

CBR is your favorite huh? Well, I knew you loved the place, but I had no idea it was your favorite in all of WDW! I bet the Poly steals that spot for you! But I sure hope we love CBR as much as you! I can't wait to get there!

I haven't been over to your PTR yet this morning, but I wanted to tell you HAPPY 1 WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: I know you can't wait to leave, but I can't wait for you to get back! :rotfl:

It was a big place, and we were far away from the food court and pool, however the kids walked it several times without complaint so that's saying something!

It is a big place. I guess if we get put way out in no man's land, we will just use the internal bus. I hope that doesn't happen though.

I'm with you on being able to sit on the bus! That was one of the few things that I didn't like about the value resorts. We had to stand almost every night coming back from the parks and that is a tough ride when you are so exhausted and you are trying to hold onto your kid, a stroller, and the handle of the bus! No fun! I'll gladly take a longer ride if I can sit down.

Another vote for the rotis. chicken! It must be good! The turkey dinner sounds very yummy too though! I don't think we are going to starve, that's for sure!

Whew! I had a lot to catch up on over here on your PTR, Rinky!

First, I am so, so, so sorry to hear that DH didn't get that job. I am a big believer in Karma, though, so I am sure there is something even better waiting for him!

The clothes you have bought for DD are super cute! I want a pair of those palm tree shorts for myself. LOL!

Yeay for the cruise being paid in full!!! :woohoo:

You will love CBR! It was such a great place to stay for us!

Can't help but notice that some of you girls didn't do your homework! :teacher: :sad2: Shame, shame on you! Don't make me write a note home to your parents! I mean, come on now, you can at least tell me what your favorite resort is even if you don't post any pictures. :rolleyes1

You are right... you do get to choose your cabin when you book... most of the time. We booked a "GTY" room, which just means that you have to wait to be assigned a room, but you are guaranteed to have one. The rooms are a little cheaper if you book one of those. We saved about $100 by doing that, which was fine by me because I didn't really care where they put us. Some people also like to book the GTY rooms because you have the possibility of getting a free upgrade. Some people have been booked in a higher category cabin when they get their room assignment than what they paid for. That didn't happen for us though. We got an inside stateroom just like we paid for.

The size of CBR is the only thing that concerns me too. I don't want to have to walk myself to death just to get to the pool, bus stop, or food court. I hope we get a good room assignment so that doesn't happen. That's the only thing I can think of that would make me not like staying there.

I think we made the right choice on booking a moderate too. I had been wanting to stay at CBR for a long time, but it always added $800-1000 to all our previous trips and I just couldn't do it. So for $300, I couldn't pass it up!

Aren't those coconuts cute! I think that is such a neat idea too! I think they may have them at the Poly and possibly at Castaway Cay too, but I can't say for sure. Seems like I have read that though. I wish I could see the look on my mom's face when she pulls a coconut out of the mailbox! :lmao:

I am not sure that I have a favorite resort, DH's is WL which is definately one of my top choices. I just love all that I have stayed at and a few that I haven't stayed at yet, GF, CR, Poly, BW of course if I keep giving in to DH wanting to stay at WL, this will be our third time staying there, I am never gonna get to the others :lmao:
After seeing all your pics of CBR I had a discussion with DH about it but I hate to say this he is a resort snob and still says he does not want to stay there. To me it does not seem that much different than OKW(is big too) and DH loved that resort for the difference in $ I would like to check it out. I love the looks of the food court and reading of all the good choices had my mouth watering.

Thanks for explaining about how you book cabins on a cruise. That is going to be funny when your Mom gets her coconut mail :rotfl:

I wasn't worried. I knew you would be around eventually. I remember very well what the beginning of a new school year was like. :scared1: It absolutely takes a few days or even weeks to get adjusted.

Thanks for the encouragement on the job.

I love those shorts too, but I'm afraid to say there were none for big girls!

I hope we do like CBR as much as everyone else here has. As long as my feet can hold out, I think we will love it.

Well, at least I am not the only indecisive one around here! It is hard to settle on one resort though b/c almost all of them are awesome. The only one that doesn't light my fire at all is CR. It just doesn't have much theme at all to me and it's not Disneyfied.

I think my DH would be nuts over WL too. It is a very manly place. I'd love to stay there at some point, but I tend to like tropical themed places best. Although we did stay at the Great Wolf Lodge last fall and really enjoyed it. It looks a lot like WL.

I agree about CBR. I don't see much difference between it and some of the deluxe resorts, especially OKW. Shelly has stayed at both of those and I think she preferred CBR and it seems like she said the same thing about there not being much difference between them except for cost. Maybe if she reads this she can chime in, but I think CBR has a lot to offer for the price in comparison to a deluxe. But I say if your DH is willing to spring for a deluxe, then go for it and enjoy it!

Finally, it’s time to talk about WDW plans!

Once we get checked in at CBR, we will hopefully head straight to our room and drop off our luggage. Then we will either take a few moments to check out the resort and eat lunch at the food court there or head straight on to the Magic Kingdom. I’m thinking I will be majorly itching to see that castle and want to get a move on, but we’ll see how it goes. If we go straight to MK, I am pretty sure we will be eating lunch at Columbia Harbour House! We love it there!

IMG_1625.jpg

We like to sit upstairs in the bridge room and people watch from the window. It is always so quiet and peaceful up there and gives you a nice break from the crowds.

IMG_1629.jpg

DH always gets the fish and DD and I love the shrimp! We think it is the best CS place we have tried at MK.

After lunch we will cram in all the rides we can, making sure to do our favorites. Our top 3 MK rides are:

Philharmagic

Peter Pan

& BTMRR

IMG_1649.jpg

I can’t wait to enjoy those again!

I am also hoping that we can meet Tiana on this day. DD really has her heart set on seeing her and Rapunzel since we have never met either of them. We caught Tiana marching in the Mardi Gras parade one time but she couldn’t stop for pictures.

IMG_1666.jpg

This will be a pretty short day at MK because we will get there late after leaving the ship and checking in at CBR, but the park will also be closing at 7:00 for MNSSHP. I’m planning on us staying until they throw us out at 7:00, then we will hop on the monorail and head to our 7:50 dinner ressie at our absolute, hands down, number one favorite restaurant in all of WDW………… Ohana!

We first ate there in ’08 and it was love at first bite!

We went back again in ’09 and it was even better than before! The food was awesome and we made some very magical memories that evening!

We really couldn’t love this place more! The food is what dreams are made of and the atmosphere is so fun! It is a must do on EVERY trip for us. In fact, it is the only Disney restaurant that we have eaten at more than once! We have probably tried 20 or so table service restaurants, and while all of them have been good, none of them compare to Ohana in our book! My DH is especially enamored with the place. As long as they keep serving a great meal here, I know I can talk my DH into more trips!

After dinner we plan to head down to the Poly beach like we have done before and take in the fireworks from MNSSHP. It is a fantastic place to watch the fireworks, especially party fireworks that have a big panoramic finale!

Once the fireworks are over, we will drag ourselves back to the room and crash! There’s nothing like Disney exhaustion, is it?

------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it appears that our Hall of Fame winner for resorts was the Beach Club! You dissers have good taste!

Now your next vote is for favorite MK dining (CS and TS). I’m sad to say that the only TS we have eaten at MK was CRT and while the princesses and the atmosphere were FANTASTIC, the food was just ok. So that leaves me with no favorite TS place (yet), and I have already mentioned that CHH is our favorite CS at MK. (Don’t forget to tell us what you like to order at your favorite places too!)

Favorite MK pictures….

For me MK is all about the magic! It seems like that is the place where special things happen for us, so my favorite pictures are from magical pixie dust moments.

In ’08 we won Year of a Million Dreams Mickey ears! I was so excited! DD however didn’t know what all the fuss was about and told me that she couldn’t wear blue ears b/c they just weren’t girly enough! So we took her to the Philharmagic shop and she picked out a pair that met her feminine requirements. I caught this picture as she was trying them on in the mirror and it has been my favorite WDW picture ever since.

DD also got her first haircut on Main Street. Pixie dust even makes a hair cut special!

IMG_1024.jpg

Here’s hoping for more MK pixie dust this time around!

I never answered the resort question. I'm a bad DISer.

I think my favorite resort I have stayed at is Boardwalk. I want to stay there again, it is just so expensive. Sigh. I also really loved Wilderness Lodge and how close it was to Magic Kingdom as that is the park I go to the most usually.

Favorite MK CS is Casey's Corner without a doubt. I :lovestruc corn dog nuggets!

Favorite MK TS is Liberty Tree Tavern. I only ate there once but it was one of my favorite meals I've had at MK. :goodvibes

I love that picture of your DD with the mirror and her Minnie ears! So cute. I love pictures that you capture spur of the moment like that.

Great update! :goodvibes That's going to be a fun day!! CBR and MK. :cloud9: And Ohana! I sure hope we love Ohana as much as you guys do! :wizard:

As for my favorite MK restaurants -- Crystal Palace is a definite family favorite for TS! :thumbsup2 We have done breakfast and dinner and both are great but we like the breakfast a little better. For CS the kids LOVE Casey's Corner. DH likes it too. But DH and I both really like Pecos Bills - I had an excellent taco salad there last year!

Great update! We've never been to O'hana for dinner, but I've heard great things about it!

Our favorite TS in MK is Crystal Palace. We have eaten there every trip and made some very magical memories there.

CS would probably be Pecos Bill's.

We've never made to CHH or Casey's! I feel like a bad DISer. :rotfl:

Great update Rinky -

I think your first day sounds perfect, I love going to MK the first day, was my plan too but JB changed your flight time so I am thinking of just having lunch at the resort once we get there since it will be around 1pm and DH normally needs to collaspe before doing anything in the evening. I picture him sitting in the lobby while I shop if our room is not ready when we check in

Your daughter looks so tiny in the pics for 2008. We will be trying Ohana for the first time ever this trip. We were planning on watching the fireworks from the Poly beach afterwards but then I booked the wishes dessert party.
I do have another 'Ohana on a night with HalloWishes, still not sure what to do :confused3
We have not tried many places in MK, only Crystal Palace and CRT and one of the CS that use to have pizza and I think pecos bills, I guess of those I would have to say CP. I have a breakfast ADR for the CP this trip too

Ya'll, I must confess... I have told a lie. :sad2: I don't know what I was thinking when I told you that we have only eaten at CRT! We ate breakfast at CP on our first trip! Boy it stinks when you realize you are getting older and your memory is not what it used to be. :rolleyes1 Anyway, our breakfast there was delicious, so that will get my vote for a TS restaurant.

I never answered the resort question. I'm a bad DISer.

Oh, it's alright... you have been slightly distracted by life. :rolleyes1

I think the BW is a very nice place as well. I love the way that whole area looks. I think I would love staying there. Maybe you could rent points to stay in that area next time.

WL is very nice too! :thumbsup2

I have heard so much about those corn dog nuggets at Casey's. We tried to eat there one night but they were having problems and after standing there for 45 minutes, I had not moved one inch in the line! We just gave up! Maybe we'll get to try them this time.

Did you go to LTT for lunch or dinner? I've heard good things about the family style dinner and the pot roast at lunch. I am considering going there this year, and I'd love to know what you ate.

Great update! :goodvibes That's going to be a fun day!! CBR and MK. :cloud9: And Ohana! I sure hope we love Ohana as much as you guys do! :wizard:

I hope you guys love Ohana too. I don't think they have anything too funky there. If you like grilled meat, basic salad, Chinese type noodles and broccoli, & bbq chicken wings, then you should be fine. I think the only thing that is borderline "funky" would be the potstickers. We loved them though. And the dessert is super good!!!

I'd like to try dinner at CP sometime. I'm hoping to make it to Casey's this time too. We ate at Peco's one time and thought it was good. We would eat there again.

Great update! We've never been to O'hana for dinner, but I've heard great things about it!

Oh yes, you should go to Ohana! Absolutely worth a try!

Pecos seems to be a favorite here! We'll have to give it another try.

We've never been to Casey's either, so you're not alone.

It's hard not to go to MK on the first day! I'd like to relax and nap on vacation though like your DH but I just can't make myself do it.

Oh yay to giving Ohana a try!! You'll have to let me know what you think.

Once the fireworks are over, we will drag ourselves back to the room and crash! There’s nothing like Disney exhaustion, is it?

We are sold on 'Ohana dinner, too. :cool1: Very good. ::yes::

Watching fireworks from the beach is so much more enjoyable to me. Not only can you see the whole display so much better, it's nice being able to either sit in a chair or spread out on a towel or blanket and have some room to breathe. I think this should be kept a DIS only secret, though, so that the masses don't come over and make it as crowded as Main Street. ;) We've seen 4th of July and NYE fireworks form there more than once, and they are incredible!

So true about Disney exhaustion. There is no better tired than a Disney tired.

We ate dinner and let me tell you it was so yummy. It's very simple food but it was great. We still talk about it now and we ate there in 2008! I've also heard great things about lunch as well. I think it's one of those TS places that doesn't get enough credit. :thumbsup2

We tried to rent points at Boardwalk for January but there point value was really higher than AKV. It's on my list for the next trip for sure! :thumbsup2

Your MK day sounds wonderful! I really could do for a dose of MK cheer right now!

My favorite CS is Columbia Harbor House - I love that tuna sandwich. Definitely a weird thing to eat on vacation, but its consistently good.

Favorite TS - I think its a tie between CP breakfast and LTT lunch! Both are so enjoyable!

I was so glad to hear that you guys loved Ohana too! I really thought you would but you just never know what someone else's tastebuds will enjoy! I think it is a perfect mix of great food, fun for the kids, and a wonderful atmosphere/view/location.

Hmm, you're right. We shouldn't spill the beans on the Poly beach fireworks. If it gets out, there could be hoards of people intruding on our private viewing spot. Maybe nobody read that part of the PTR, or my old TR, or all 20 of your TRs..... :rolleyes1 Uh oh.... we may have opened up Pandora's box here Memom! :scared1:

But I agree that watching the fireworks from other places has really spoiled me big time. We've watched Wishes one time from Main Street and the Christmas ones once from there too and that's it. Once I saw how nice it was on the Poly beach, we have been finding other ways to see them each time. The best way was the pirate cruise, but I can't afford to do that every time. We will be trying out a new spot for Wishes this year though... that will be coming up soon!

I just wish that LTT still had characters. I'm not sure why they got rid of them, but that is a drawback for those of us with kids. I still want to try it though.

Your MK day sounds wonderful! I really could do for a dose of MK cheer right now!

I've heard so many people say that their tuna sandwich is awesome. I don't care for tuna so I've never tried it, but DH likes it so maybe he will give it a go.

Ok, so you have me curious as to what you liked about LTT for lunch. What did you order? I've heard the pot roast is really good, but I've also heard great things about the Thanksgiving style dinner. I'm confused as to which one to book.

I have to say my favorite resort I have stayed in is still Pop. It just feels like "us". My dream resort to stay in is Wilderness Lodge. I used to say Beach Club was close behind, but after staying at the Yacht Club I now know how much walking it involves to get to the parks near by and the bus service to the other places was horrid. The area is beautiful, but I like the totally in your face Disney that the Values offer.

I have only eaten 2 TS at MK...and Crystal Palace would be my favorite over the 2. I would say Columbia Harbor House would be my favorite CS, but again, I haven't eaten many at MK either.

What the heck is going on here! We just had a TREMOR!!! We have never had tremors here before! That totally freaked me out! I was sitting on the back porch and my chair started shaking. I thought one of the kids had pushed the back of the chair, but they didn't. Then I noticed my SUV rocking back and forth in the driveway! CRAZY! This, and a huge hurricane is heading my way.... WHAT NEXT!

Oh my goodness Shelly! I just saw that on the news. I can't believe we felt it so strong from that far away! :scared1: Unbelievable!
