No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems: A Tremendously Tropical PTR

Cute 1st day of school picture! :thumbsup2

Stay safe down there!! We should be hit on Sunday. Just got back from buying some staples from Target. I'm really hoping we don't lose power, fingers crossed!

I hope by the time it gets to you it has fizzled out!

Rinky - Will say a prayer that you get through tonight safe and sound.

Your DD is such a big girl now :cutie:

Thanks! It's going to be a long night and I probably won't sleep a wink. I wish it was coming through during the day. It's a lot less stressful that way.

Yes, she is a big girl now! :sad1:

Rinky, I have been following but haven't had time to say much but wanted to let you know I am praying for your safety. Keep us updated if you can.

Thank you! I will keep updating as long as we have power. It is supposed to be 98 degrees on Sunday! I am REALLY hoping that we don't lose power, but I think that's a very slim possibility.

--------------------------

So far so good here. We still have power and no damage yet. I hope it stays that way. The rain is pouring down and the wind is really kicking up though. I hope I can get a little bit of sleep tonight, but that's probably wishful thinking. Thank you for all the prayers! Stacy, it looks like you should be getting the outer bands soon. Stay safe! I'll check in later if I can.

Rinky, hope you are staying safe. I was in Charleston when Hugo hit 22 years ago, so I know only too well the nail-biting!

Rinky - I hope you made it through the night safely. Everytime I hear them mention NC on the news here I think of you and your family. I so agree about the timeing of this storm. I also much prefer it hit during daylight hours especially now they are talking about it spawning tornados :scared1:. Last I heard it is coming here during the overnight hours too:sad2:.
Please be safe

Hope this finds you safe and sound.
Keep thinking happy crusing thoughts. :cool1:

So glad the second-grader is liking school. I'd like to have several like her in my class.

Hope things are passing through and done soon for you!

Your DD is ADORABLE! I love her haircut! Glad she likes school too!

Keep us posted!

Hey Rinky! I've barely been on the DIS at all in the last couple of weeks and I am so far behind on all my subscriptions!

Most importantly, I hope all is well at your home and Irene didn't effect you too badly.

Now, I have to go allllllll the way back to your favorite resort question - I told you I was behind! My favorite resort that I've stayed at is AKL, it's just so beautiful and relaxing. :cloud9: The one I have yet to stay at, but really really want to try is BC. I love the whole feel of the resort and SAB is awesome, not to mention the great location, being within walking distance to two parks! Someday I'll get to stay there!

I love your day 1 WDW plans........minus the 'Ohana dinner, yes, you read that right  I think I'm the only DISer that is not in love with that restaurant! I probably need to give it another try, maybe we just hit it on a bad night, but we were completely unimpressed. Service was terrible, food was dry and overcooked, it just wasn't a good experience at all. :sad2:

I have to say though that I totally agree with you on your favorite MK CS option. We love CHH! I always order the tuna sandwich, but I've tasted several of their other options as well and it's all been good. As far as favorite TS at MK I guess I would have to choose Crystal Palace. I've eaten at LTT & CRT and didn't much care for either one of them (I've been told I need to give LTT a try at lunch, that it's much better than dinner, so it's on the list). Haven't tried Tony's or the Plaza yet, so that leaves CP!

Hey Rinky hope you are ok there in NC. Irene is gone from Ct but we have no power and no idea when we will, I just wanted to hop on real quick to see if you were alright on my laptop battery power and my wifi which if I am lucky I will have 2 hours time total so I probally will not be back until our power comes back on

Just popped over to see how you all managed the storm! I see that you are safe! Yay!!!
Just LOVE that sweet pic of your daughter ready for her first day of school. Her hair is adorable! Glad to know that she is happy with her classmates and teacher too...

I really think you will be good to go on your cruise, I'm sure they are getting everything squared away right now! You know it's how they make their money!!!:goodvibes

DCL is stil lgoing to Nassau. Right now CC is scrapped till they get a grip on what the damage is.

For us: good service - not awesome, but adequate. Our food, however was better than good! The steak was melt-in-your mouth tender. I'd give it one more try one of these days, if I were you, before you write it off. If you go 0 for 2, then you can scratch it. ;)

Rinky - hope you guys are doing okay.

I could be wrong, but I am guessing that Rinky still does not have power. There are widespread outages down here. They are saying it all won't be restored until Friday, they hope.

I do hope it is only her power and/or internet!!

Hello DIS friends! I am so happy to finally be able to communicate with the outside world! We have been without power since Friday night around 11:00. I feel like we have been through a living Hell this past week. Irene has made a huge mess in Eastern North Carolina and I think our area took the brunt of the inland winds. We have huge trees down everywhere, power lines mangled up in the roads, and worst of all, many people have lost their homes. We have several homes in our neighborhood that have been destroyed by falling trees. I am so thankful that we only had minor damage in comparison. A ten foot section of our privacy fence blew out, some large limbs fell onto our fence from a pine tree, our yard is covered in debris, and we had some water damage in our dining room window. The rain was blowing in so hard that the water actually came up under the closed window and poured down the wall underneath. It was just amazing how powerful the wind was and how much rain we had.

That has to be the longest storm I have ever suffered through. It started at about 4:00 on Friday afternoon and never quit, not even for 5 minutes, until 11:00 Saturday night. That’s more than 24 hours of constant hurricane force winds and nonstop rain, and we don’t even live right on the coast. It was relentless. I’ve never experienced anything like that. It just moved so slow and would not leave! All we had to keep up with what was happening was a little battery operated radio, and the weatherman kept warning of tornadoes touching down in the neighboring counties. It was nerve racking to say the least. School is out here indefinitely because no one has power or water, and some of the schools have been heavily damaged. It’s just a mess. We haven’t even been able to leave our house until today because the roads were blocked with trees in every direction.

Because we have been without power for so long, we have lost all the food in the fridge and freezer. What a disgusting mess that was to clean up! It just made me sick to have to throw out all that expensive food!

We finally got power back around 7:00 tonight! When it came on, we could hear everyone in the neighborhood shouting! We were all so thankful!!! I came in and the first thing I did was turn on the a/c (thank the Lord for A/C!). It’s been about 95 degrees here every day since the storm, so the a/c was the FIRST thing on my mind! But our power had only been on for about 10 minutes when a huge thunderstorm started up. In a matter of minutes, we were running for the closet because softball sized hail started coming down, and the tornado siren went off. I have never seen hail so huge in my life. It sounded like it was going to bust through the roof and windows. We actually had a tornado touch down in our neighborhood and then skip down the road and hit two other communities before it died out. I am so stressed out right now that nothing short of bourbon could calm my nerves. My parents were here when it hit and we all piled into the closet under the stairs. DD was crying. I was crying and praying. It was terrifying. After a few minutes we came out and the storm was gone as fast it came. The grass was covered with huge hail. It was almost surreal. Again, thankfully we only had minor damage. My SUV is covered with dents, but the house seems to be fine. I haven’t heard yet how all my neighbors faired because it got dark quickly after the storm passed. I hope everyone is ok. We don’t have any phone service and cell phones are spotty, so I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out how bad it was.

I must say that it has been one of the worst weeks of my life, but even still, I am so incredibly thankful that I still have my home and my family.

I’ll be back tomorrow to do replies. I’ve got to get some sleep right now because I haven’t slept almost at all since Thursday and I am exhausted. I just wanted to let everyone know that we are ok. I’m so glad to hear that all of you made it through ok too. I've thought about all of you often over the last few days.

So relieved to hear that you are indeed safe. Sorry that you have been through so much torment throughout this storm.
I hope you keep that power on and your house gets nice and cool so you get that much needed rest!

Yikes, what a mess! I'm so glad that you don't have any major damage though and that you are all safe and sound

Good to hear from you. Jill's area was messed up, too, during those tornadoes, and they were without power for days, so we can very well relate to what you are seeing around you and what you are going through. Luckily, she was able to get most of her fridge/freezer food up here quickly, so she didn't have to throw away much.

I know that air conditioning felt so good! :thumbsup2

It will be an inconvenience and a hassle to get things repaired, but at least all of your people are safe and your house is still standing. You are fortunate. :)

Rinky, hope you are staying safe. I was in Charleston when Hugo hit 22 years ago, so I know only too well the nail-biting!

Nail-biting... yep, there was a lot of that going on. I'm just like you when it comes to weather. I'm very afraid of wind/tornadoes, so this was very stressful for me.

Jackie, I was so sorry to hear your sad news. I have thought about you a lot lately and have prayed for you to have peace. I wish there was something else I could say to make things better for you.

Thank you for thinking of us! I was thinking about you too after it passed by us.

Usually, it takes about 12 hours for a hurricane to blow through, so I thought we would get it overnight and then it would be gone by Saturday. But it lasted so long that it howled all night Friday and all day Saturday. I couldn't believe that.

Rinky, we are thinking about you and your family and hope you stay safe!

Thank you! I appreciate the thoughts!

I hope you are safe Rinky and that you have power!

We are safe, thank goodness! Thank you for checking in on us!

Hope this finds you safe and sound.
Keep thinking happy crusing thoughts. :cool1:

So glad the second-grader is liking school. I'd like to have several like her in my class.

Well, the poor thing has only had two days of school and now she is back out again. She's ready to get back to her normal routine. It's been very boring for her around here!

Hope things are passing through and done soon for you!

Your DD is ADORABLE! I love her haircut! Glad she likes school too!

Keep us posted!

Thanks! I'm so glad this is over.

I like her hair shorter too. It is so much easier to deal with, but I can't do the fun stuff with it like braids, etc.
