No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems: A Tremendously Tropical PTR

I have to say my favorite resort I have stayed in is still Pop. It just feels like "us". My dream resort to stay in is Wilderness Lodge. I used to say Beach Club was close behind, but after staying at the Yacht Club I now know how much walking it involves to get to the parks near by and the bus service to the other places was horrid. The area is beautiful, but I like the totally in your face Disney that the Values offer.

I have only eaten 2 TS at MK...and Crystal Palace would be my favorite over the 2. I would say Columbia Harbor House would be my favorite CS, but again, I haven't eaten many at MK either.

I'm a big fan of Pop too. I actually liked the theme of ASMo better, but I like the buses and location of the standard rooms better at Pop. Honestly, I am excited to be staying at CBR this time, but I was just as excited to be staying at a value on my other trips. I'm just thankful to be there and to be staying on property! :thumbsup2

We felt the tremors up in Boston too! My co-workers thought I made it up! Our building tends to shake when 18 wheelers drive by, but this lasted too long to be an 18 wheeler. It didn't really freak me out though.

I was popping on here to see if you felt the earthquake! We were shopping in Williamsburg and felt it. I thought the rack of shoes was going to fall on us! It's funny because even though it felt like a quake, my brain rationalized that it couldn't be because we don't have them around here...LOL!

I've been so busy with school stuff and I am not even officially back. Ugh. One more day...

My favorite resort is the POLY baby! Oh yes, love that place. So wish they would make one longhouse DVC. So easily could be done. 2nd fave is OKW, yes, even over Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge (WL is Ben's favorite tho). OKW is just "us" and fits our family perfectly. Love how big everything is, color schemes, and laid back atmosphere. Just what we need after a hard day of park touring. I know it gets a bad rap sometimes because it's older and so big but the refurb really modernized it and we never notice how big it is. Enough rambling on that!

MK table service is Crystal Palace, hands down. We've done, and enjoyed, every meal there. CS is Cosmic Ray's. Ellie is a picky eater and I love the variety we can get there. Something for everybody.

Fireworks from the Poly beach are wonderful. However, I am a sucker for seeing them from Main Street. If it's a show I've seen many times before, like Wishes, then I am totally on the beach. But if it's a first time, or special show, then I am with the masses...:crowded:

Wow, so weird how far that earthquake was felt! Oh no, is the hurricane coming your way??! :scared1: Looks like we got lucky on this one.

:woohoo: for having your cruise paid off!!! One step closer! :cool1:

As for fave resort, I have to go with Wilderness Lodge. :cloud9: We had one of our best trips ever there in February 2009 and I just fell in love! It's just simple and cozy, and very different from tropical So Fla. BUT...I do love Beach Club and Poly and Pop, also.

Fave CS at MK is Pecos Bill. We usually just eat wherever, not too picky, but had a great burger at PB in May and I can't wait to have it again! TS...well, we haven't eaten at any other than CP for breakfast in years, so I'm gonna have to go with that.

Your first day plans sound perfect! And, Ohana is my absolute FAVORITE dinner in all of WDW, too!!!! YUM!

Sorry I've been MIA lately!! I just wanted to chime in and say we loved CBR too! My kids thought the pool was awesome! We were not super close to the food court, and I didn't think walking was too bad, but my MIL and SIL were with us and complained a lot. They are not in the best shape for walking and my SIL has since had one of her knees replaced, so take that for what it's worth.

My favorite TS in MK is Crystal Palace. We've done both dinner and breakfast, and while I loved eating in the castle, CRT breakfast was not much different food-wise, but beats it out on ambience and experience.

CS - I love CHH too (Tuna sandwich!), but we had yummy burgers at Pecos Bills. Cosmic Rays is just too busy/crazy. I don't like having to decide which line to get in and all that nonsense.

Your first day sounds awesome, but I bet you'll be at WDW earlier than you think unless you're stopping. (I might have missed that part) You'll be off the ship pretty much by 9 and it's about an hour drive.
I've always wanted to try Ohana for dinner - I think I have to now with all these rave reviews here!! Fireworks from the Poly beach is on my list too. We had thought about it for our last trip and it didn't seem to fit.

Stay safe from that nasty hurricane!!! Batten down the hatches!

I'm amazed at how many states felt that earthquake! That's just unbelievable to me! It definitely freaked me out though. I just never expected something like that to happen.

I know! I thought the same thing! I kept thinking, "This feels like a quake, but it can't be... we don't have quakes!" I tell you, the weather this summer has been unbelievable. We've had terrible storms, the worst outbreak of tornadoes ever, drought and then flooding, an earthquake, and now a hurricane is coming. I've had enough! Bring on the boring winter!

I've been so busy with school stuff and I am not even officially back. Ugh. One more day...

Good luck this school year. I hope you have some wonderful students!

Yes, the Poly is quite nice and I'd stay there in a heartbeat... if someone else was paying for it! I love any place tropical! I think we would like OKW too. It seems very similar to CBR to me.

Everyone here seems to like CP! We've never tired Ray's... maybe this time.

Oh you can't beat the atmosphere of seeing fireworks on Main Street, but the crowds are insane and sometimes more than my sanity can handle. I'm a huge fan of personal space and there is NONE of that there.

Yes, it looks like the hurricane is headed this way. :guilty:

I like all of those too and would be happy to stay at any of them. I think WL is very nice, but for some reason, it seems strange to stay at a woodland themed place while in Florida. But I still like it a lot and think my DH would LOVE it!

Wow it seems like a lot of you really like PB! We're going to have to give that one another try!

Your first day plans sound perfect! And, Ohana is my absolute FAVORITE dinner in all of WDW, too!!!! YUM!

Ohana ROCKS! It's a good thing that it isn't in my hometown, b/c I would be broke from paying $100 to eat there all the time!

Well I have been having problems with my feet for the last year (heel spurs :headache:) so I may end up feeling like it is too much walking too. I hope not though. My feet hurt so bad some days that it really makes me worry about the whole trip.

My favorite TS in MK is Crystal Palace. We've done both dinner and breakfast, and while I loved eating in the castle, CRT breakfast was not much different food-wise, but beats it out on ambience and experience.

We had lunch at CRT. I wish we had done breakfast b/c it's hard to mess up breakfast! Lunch was just so so. We liked the food at CP much better!

Yep, you NEED to try Ohana for dinner! And if you book a dinner ressie, just do it with the time of the fireworks in mind and then you can hit the beach that night and kill two birds with one stone! :thumbsup2 They also pipe the music in if you choose to eat while the fireworks are going on.

We are not stopping. We will go straight from the port to CBR. I hope we can squeeze a lot out of that day like you said.

____________________________________________

It's been a busy day here! School started today! DD was really excited. I hope she still feels that way when she gets home. I was very glad to see my 10 hour days of childcare come to an end, but I wish I had a little more time to spend with just my DD. I miss her already. :sad1: I'll post a picture or two later.

Looks like we have a major hurricane heading this way. I'm really hoping it stays offshore, but that isn't looking likely. I so dread this! It's such a long and stressful ordeal. I'm pretty sure we will loose electricity too, so I may not be around much for a few days or even longer depending on where exactly it makes landfall. And I hate it for our beautiful Outer Banks. They are so fragile and I know if this hits as a cat 3, it is going to be terrible in that area.

Plus, the company my DH works for is HIGHLY affected by bad weather. If this storm hits hard, he will be working 12-15 hour days, 7 days a week, for a long time. The overtime money is nice, but it's hard on family time and it just wears my DH down. He has had to do that a lot this year with multiple hail storms, wind damage from severe thunderstorms, and the tornadoes, and he is pretty tired of it.

Also, it looks like this storm has demolished parts of the Bahamas. I just heard on the news that some neighborhoods there have had 90% of the homes flattened. That is so sad. I feel so much compassion for those people. I've experienced the devastation of a hurricane twice and I can tell you they are really going through a very difficult time and have a long road ahead of them.

My prayers, first and foremost, are that the people in the Bahamas are safe and can recover quickly. And I know it is trivial in comparison, but I can't help but wonder what this means for the cruise. Does anyone know what DCL's policy is on this sort of thing? It may be quite possible that there is too much damage for us to dock in Nassau or visit Castaway Cay. I hope that isn't the case. I'm just not sure what I can do now that my cruise is already paid for. And of 'course, I didn't buy insurance, although I'm not sure something like this would even be covered. Maybe I should just call DCL and ask them what I should expect. The cruise is 2 months away, but I know firsthand that it can take much longer than 2 months to recover from a cat 3 storm (and that was in America where we have the resources to deal with things like that).

Anyway, I'm just a little bummed right now, but I'm trying to keep my perspective and be hopeful that we don't take a direct hit ourselves.

Oh, the first day of school!! Odd that it's on a Thursday!? I hope she had a great day!

You know, I was just thinking similar things about how the hurricane damage could affect the cruise. I know that there have been time where ships have diverted to avoid the actual storm and when we went on Carnival in 2008 they changed one port (Costa Maya to Cozumel) because there had been too much damage there from a previous storm that year. There is a chance they could do that, although Castaway Cay isn't something that you can really substitute for.

If they do need to make changes, they will send you a notice as soon as they make that decision, but if it would help ease your mind, I'd call DCL. They may not have an answer for you at this point, but it can't hurt. Insurance probably wouldn't cover much anyway, they usually have so many exclusions. If they are forced to cancel excursions, DCL will refund that money to you.

Stay safe and I hope it's not too bad where you are.

Popping in to wish you a safe weekend. With the new westerly track we are set to take a pretty direct hit here. We're heading up the street to my in-laws' Saturday morning because they have a whole house generator.

Hope it's not that bad for you!:goodvibes

Oh my...when I asked if the hurricane was heading your way, I didn't realize what part of the country you are in...but yeah, now I understand. Stay safe and keep us updated whenever you can. It passed to the east of us today and we had rain bands all day. I know all too well what you are preparing for today and will be saying a prayer for all in this storms path.

Good Morning Rinky -

Hope your DD first day of school went great yesterday. Looks like storm days will be used early this year :scared1: I know some schools here in Connecticut that went back this week or scheduled to return next week have already cancelled.

Looks like you and I are both in for a bumpy ride. Looks like it will only be a Cat 1 here but a direct hit, same path as Gloria which left us without power for 6 days.

Be safe Rinky

Yeah, I have no idea what will happen to my cruise. You're right, CC cannot be replaced. I'm just hoping that it can be cleaned up and repaired before our cruise departure. I think I will give it a week or so for DCL to have time to see what kind of damage they have and then call to see what's going on.

Stay safe Rinky!

I hope your DD had a great first day of school! :goodvibes

Thanks!

I don't know why I am even replying to this.......... you aren't reading it! Lucky you, in Florida right now! :)

I don't blame you. I'd be staying with them too! We don't have a generator, so if we lose power for a while, we are going to be VERY hot, have no water, and lose all the food in the fridge/freezer. Fun.

Please stay safe and come on here an give us an update on how things are going for you if you can. I may not be able to read it though, but I am hoping I can.

Thanks! We live in Eastern NC, so yes, we will be affected. Looks like the eye will pass just to the East of us. I'm still praying for it to blow out to sea and lose strength.

Wow! They have already cancelled classes??? I guess we have been through this so many times that we don't do that. The kids are in school today and the rain and humidity has already started. It isn't too windy yet though. That's is supposed to start early in the morning.

Stay safe and please keep us posted on here how things are going, if you have power that is. I hope we will keep power for at least part of the day Saturday, but who knows.

--------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who are expecting to get winds from this storm, make sure you put everything away in your yard. Even heavy items can go flying in that kind of wind and cause damage to your house. One of our past storms picked our VERY heavy swing up and threw it into the side of our house. We don't leave anything out there anymore. We pack it all up in the shop or bring it inside. Just a thought!

I can understand your worry about the cruise. Just remember cruise lines deal with this every year. They have all sorts of contingencies for these things. A lot of the islands, if their ports are damaged they get them back up fast, because Islands like Nassau only survive when the tourists spend money there. The ports themselves at Nassau though are VERY sturdy. I have been there three times and they are made out of cement, and can definitely withstand a storm. Chin up! I am sure it will all be fine! Stay safe. We are scheduled to get some of this up in Boston on Sunday. My part time job (aka my Disney savings fund), was supposed to have a meeting on Sunday evening during the worst of it! I pitched a fit and told them if I died driving there because a tree fell on my car my parents would be filing a wrongful death law suit.....they changed the meeting until the end of September. Not worth dying for a job I attend two hours a week!

:lmao: I don't blame you one bit! I would have told them to take a hike too! I'm sure you will be fine as long as you just stay inside and don't try to get out and drive anywhere. It should be a lot weaker by the time it gets that far north. I sure hope so anyway. Keep us posted on how things are going on Sunday.

I hope you are right about the cruise. I thought that same thing about them needing to get cleaned up fast for their economy. I certainly hope that Blue Lagoon survived well too. I wonder what they did with the dolphins during all that???

Well I can't believe it, but Irene almost made me miss my own 2 month party! So before it's too late.....

We'll be cruising in 2 months!!

:jumping1::jumping1::jumping1:

I got so busy yesterday in my hurricane preparations that I didn't get a chance to post a first day of school picture, so let me rectify that...

P1000160-1.jpg

She had a wonderful first day of second grade. She likes all the kids in her class and her teacher, so all is well so far.

In other news, Irene has arrived here. The rain is pouring and the wind is howling. It's going to be a long night.

I hope all of you who are in the storm's path stay safe over the next few days. And please take a moment and check in here to let us know how you are after the storm is gone (if you have power that is).

Cute 1st day of school picture! :thumbsup2

Stay safe down there!! We should be hit on Sunday. Just got back from buying some staples from Target. I'm really hoping we don't lose power, fingers crossed!

Rinky - Will say a prayer that you get through tonight safe and sound.

Your DD is such a big girl now :cutie:
