No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems: A Tremendously Tropical PTR

Rinky -

I certainly understand how your DH feels betrayed and I know it has to be a bitter pill to swallow, it will not be easy having this person be his boss now for sure. I was passed over once for a position in similar fashion and like your DH's new boss, this person could not do the work expected without help. Eventually I stopped staying late to close the books and it was not too long before my co-worker who also became my boss fell flat on her face.
Things have a way of balanceing out and I am sure when you and your DH least expect it something good and maybe even better will come his way.

Sorry to hear this. I know he would have done the job beautifully. You never know, he may end up with it in the long run, or he may get something even better. You are okay to get mad and sad and vent for a little while. That's human, and it's good to get your stress out. When you are finished, keep writing out that list of good, positive, wonderful things you have going on in your life, then smile and move on. You will all grow stronger through this, even though it is tough to take now.

Oh...I'm so sorry to hear this. How incredibly unfair. Don't worry about venting, we understand - and sometimes getting it all out there is necessary to move on easier. I'll be praying for you guys - perhaps God has something even better down the line.

Hi! Just jumpin aboard! Just caught up on your chapter links. In regards to the claustrophobia you mentioned, I have cruised 4 times, and had an inside cabin once. I did get claustrophobic when I was in the cabin, and I got sea sick ONLY when I was in the cabin. HOWEVER I had a double middle ear infection on the boat, and my doctor told me that was probably the cause, without the window I couldn't stableize by looking at the horizon and the issue with my ears threw me off, because when I was on deck I was fine, and I had never been sea sick before. The next year we went again, got a window, and I didn't get sea sick once Despite the rocky water. Not sure that helps you at all lol.

As for Nassau, you are right in hearing it is a dump. HOWEVER it is totally worth checking your DD into the kids camp and you and DH going over to Senior Frogs for some nachos and drinks! I am obsessed with the nachos there. I went on a 4 day cruise this past May with the New Kids on the Block and the highlight of the cruise was the nachos.....sad yes, but I love food. But I don't think the place is for kids, even though there were quite a few families with kids there. Also ask your waiters good places to go in Nassau. When we did DCL in 2000 our waiters were great in helping us find safe places to go. My friends and I were 18 at the time and on our first trip without parents and we were all those "good sheltered kids" so we were nervous being alone on Nassau.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear all of this. It's such a stinky situation. It's just sad when the "people in charge" can make such unjust decisions and not realize how wrong they really are, or worse...not care. :sad2: Unfortunately, we've had/are having personal experience with a similar situation and it just makes me sick. :headache: I know what you mean about being blessed (especially in this economy) and ashamed to pout...I feel the same way, but it's hard when it's your personal situation and you are just trying to do right by your family and making such sacrifices by living on one income (we do, too). Well, I generally don't vent personal stuff either, but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. Here's to hoping we both find our rainbows...and a whole pot of goodness at the end of them!! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with the same issues. It isn't right how things work in the business world. I guess you just have to hold your head high and know that if you do the right thing, you will eventually get your reward in the end. I really hope things work out for you, even if it wasn't what you originally had in mind.

I hope you are right. I don't wish anything bad to come of the guy who got the job, but I will say that I wouldn't be surprised if he quickly finds out that he is in over his head. I just hope he doesn't have the nerve to continue to ask my DH for help. My DH is an awesome guy, but everyone has their limits.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to deal with this kind of thing too. From the responses I have gotten over this, I would say it is a pretty common thing, and that's sad to hear. :sad2:

Thank you for the encouraging words. I'm already feeling better. DH however, is still having a hard time accepting it. I just feel so bad for him. He is the type of person that has a heart of gold and would give anyone the shirt right off his back, so it's hard for me to see him be treated like this, and it's hard for him to understand why someone would return his kindness and hard work with betrayal. I know we will be fine though in time, and I have hope something even better will come of this.

Oh...I'm so sorry to hear this. How incredibly unfair. Don't worry about venting, we understand - and sometimes getting it all out there is necessary to move on easier. I'll be praying for you guys - perhaps God has something even better down the line.

Thank you so much! That means a lot to me. And I hope God does have something better in store for us. I trust that He does and I know that He had a reason for allowing this to happen. There are lessons in all this for us to learn, we just have to figure out what they are. I trust Him though and that's all that really matters! Jeremiah 29:11 has always been my favorite verse and I have been repeating it to myself often for the last few days. It has really helped me a lot.

Welcome aboard! I'm always glad to have new friends join in the fun!

Well, my hope is that I won't have any problems with the inside cabin, but if I do, I think I can make it work for just 3 nights. I hope so anyway. I can always sleep on one of the lounge chairs if I have to !

We LOVE nachos so I'll have to keep that in mind! popcorn::

I used to be a NKOTB fan way back in the day! Boy that brought back some memories! I was slightly smitten with Joe. :rolleyes1

Thanks for all the advice and tips! :thumbsup2

When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep shopping, just keep shopping, just keep shopping, shopping, shopping. What do we do? We shop, shop……..

OK, maybe Dory’s advice isn’t the best in my situation considering that I have much less money to spend right now than I was hoping for. Nevertheless, all this shopping has already been done and paid for so I might as well enjoy it, right? Nothing can perk a girl up like a good shopping trip anyway, so let’s get to it.

I told you in one of my previous shopping updates that we hit the motherload of Disney deals at Walmart a couple of months ago and found lots of outfits and shirts on clearance in the girl’s department. Well, I decided to wait and post everything after I found bottoms to go with all the tops. That goal has since been accomplished and I was lucky enough to find all the shorts on clearance as well! :woohoo: DD is extremely hot natured, so I was looking for something cooler than denim and something that would dry out faster if we get wet. Well I hit the jackpot! I found a huge rack of Danskin shorts on clearance. They are “exercise” shorts that are made of that slick, moisture wicking fabric. DH has a few polos made out of that same fabric and he LOVES them! DD has already been wearing the shorts and I can hardly get her to wear anything else. She is tickled with them!

So these next several pics are of the t-shirts and shorts that I got on clearance at Walmart. These outfit were literally about $5 each!

This tank top set was also on the clearance rack.

My mom made these flip flops and this headband for DD for the 4th of July, but they go great with this outfit as well and I think this will be cute to wear on our World Showcase day at Epcot.

P1000158.jpg

I also found these sundresses that I fell in love with! :lovestruc I could not decide between ::MinnieMo or ::MickeyMo so I got them both and DD threw in :tink: when I wasn’t looking. I know, I know………. but they were on clearance so I actually saved money, right??? :rolleyes1

Really, I don’t think I did too bad. I am pretty sure that I didn’t pay more than $5-6 for any of those outfits!

I did pay full price for this t-shirt that we got at the Disney store back in May. I haven’t decided what to put with this one yet.

I found this outfit on sale at Belk and thought it would be great for the cruise. The shorts have little palm trees embroidered on them.

And last, but not least…. Terence graciously exchanged the shoes that he brought me in the wrong color. So I finally got my Tevas! I have been wearing them to break them in before the trip and so far I really like them!

P1000152.jpg

Not sure if you can tell from this picture but the soles are dark brown and the straps are tan and turquoise.

Hmmmmm  one thing for me and all the rest for DD.... what's wrong with this picture?

I think that is all for now though, but if I find any other goodies for the trip, I’ll be sure to share them with you!

Up next…. Goodbye Paradise, Hello House of Mouse!

All the outfits you found for DD are adorable and my thoughts on sale shopping is like yours when you can not decide buy both, the more you buy the more you save.

Your tevas are cute, I need a pair of shoes to go with the 2 dresses I bought I have to start checking the clearance racks and see what I can find.

Very cute clothes. My daughters are 12 and 10 and they will not let me pick out anything so enjoy it while you can.

Adorable clothes! I love the Marie shirt and skirt! Totally cute and for $5-6 an outfit you can't beat that!

Sorry to hear about your DH job situation. I can understand why he is frustrated!

"The more you buy, the more you save" :rotfl: I love that! :lmao: My DH would NOT agree with your philosophy!

I like the Tevas because they are very lightweight and they have an arch support which is rare in flip flops. I hope they do well for me at WDW.

Oh I dread that! :guilty: It is already starting a little bit though!

I think that pink skirt was $2! It also has that cool, slick fabric underneath the tulle. :thumbsup2

We did really good too because DD's favorites are Minnie, Mickey, Marie, and Tinker Bell. They had all of those and more. They also had more rare character shirts like Bambi and Chip & Dale.

Thanks. DH is doing better now that a few days have passed and I am too. We'll be fine. And DH has been flooded with phone calls from fellow workers and clients from other companies telling him how disgusted and shocked they are over what happened. Some of DH's clients have even called his boss and asked him what the heck was he thinking by hiring that other guy who is so clueless. That has really meant a lot to DH and has given him some sense of satisfaction knowing that so many others think it is outrageous too. And right or wrong on my part, I must admit that is has been satisfying to me to know that DH's boss has had to explain himself to all these people who have been calling and telling him what a stupid decision he made.

I am so glad to hear your DH is feeling better and that everyone sees what happened as being the injustice it is.

I did not realize the tevas have an arch support, I may have to go look at their site again as I have a very high arch myself, not that I would be brave enough to wear them at Disney, I am so fearfull of someone running over my toes with a stroller :rotfl:

My theory about saving money started way back when I was first married, I happened upon a sale of halter tops, I forget now how much off they were but it was a great deal and I bought 20. DH had a fit, but I quite calmly explained to him how much I saved per top and what my total savings was, it was something like $3 each so I save $60 this was back in like 1974? I only took home around $70 a week back then so I almost saved a weeks pay :lmao:

I completely agree! For you guys and for us! :goodvibes

Super cute outfits! (and very nicely priced :thumbsup2) Those dresses are just adorable!!! Perfect for the cruise!

Really cute outfits - especially Marie with that tutu skirt!!! My DDs would LOVE it!

Keep hanging in there! I'm glad you are both feeling better about your DH's situation. Sometimes with time, things will turn and your perspective changes. Ironically just today, the person who declined to hire my friend and co-worker has sent out a request for assistance (through a third party -big boss) from one of us who is experienced. DUH, you should have hired her!! Then you would have had that experience! OY! My friend didn't take that well. It could reflect negatively on her, I suppose - but only if you don't know her. If you do, then it makes that person look all the more stupid. I hope that made sense, it seems like I'm babbling...

Okay, back to trip planning!!!

I'm loving the outfits. I never find cute stuff like that on sale....I'm jealous. I always think the WalMarts around here tend not not get all the cute stuff I see others post because I never see them in the stores here.

:rotfl: You should have been covered for halter tops for a good 10 years! :rotfl:

Thanks! I love it when I catch a deal like that. I love the dresses too. I think they are my favorite. There's just something about a little girl in a sundress that is so sweet and innocent. :cutie:

DD picked out the Marie and the tutu! Girls that age must think alike!

You're not babbling! I totally get what you are saying. It's frustrating when a person isn't hired based on their qualifications, but who they are buddies with. I have a feeling that system will never change though. :sad2:

I have found several cute Disney things at our Walmart over the years. I can't find anything at Target though. I really like shopping there better, but they just don't have anything Disney at all. And you can't beat the price that WM sells it for... so much cheaper than the parks and the t shirts seem to hold up just as well. Then when they put it on clearance... I absolutely cannot resist!

Hi Rinky!
I am catching up after a week at Nags Head.:beach:

I am so sorry to hear that your husband did not get the promotion. My husband has dealt with that stuff at work before. It also happens in the school district and has deterred me from applying for certain positions because I know they have their "favorites".

I really like all of your purchases! Did you get those adorable sundresses at Wal-Mart? I have looked and looked and didn't see anything like that. If you did, I may head to a couple of other ones to see if they have them.

Well hello there beach bum! Did you enjoy your trip? We LOVE Nags Head! It is always so peaceful and beautiful there. We used to go every year or even twice a year, but we have gone to Myrtle Beach for the last several trips because we found a resort there that DD is in love with (Dunes Village). It has an indoor water park right there in the hotel. Our car doesn't even move once we get there because there is so much to do. But I have to say that if it was an adults only trip, I would prefer NH. Our favorite seafood place in the whole world is there too. It used to be called RV's, but now it is Sugar Creek (I think??). Anyway, beautiful location and AWESOME seafood! We've been eating there on every trip for many years now. We also like to go over the bridge to Manteo. It is such a beautiful place and they have a nice aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, and the whole waterfront area. We keep saying we are going to go when the the Lost Colony play is running, but we never do. We like to go in the off season, like May or September and it isn't showing then. What do you guys like do when you are there?

Yes, those dresses and all of the other stuff came from WM except that one t-shirt from the Disney store and the tank top and palm tree shorts outfit. I loved those dresses too. I love the bright colors in them! I did have to dig to find all that stuff though. In my store they were on a "wall" in the girls dept. They have most of the clothes on racks that sit in the floor, but these were on a wall type display where the Hannah Montana, Justin Beiber, and Selena Gomez stuff is. Don't know if that helps or not. But if you will tell me what size you are looking for and which ones you like, I will check my store the next time I go. I doubt they will have any since it was already on clearance, but I will be glad to check for you and mail them to you if I do find any. The Mickey and Minnie dresses were the only ones in larger sizes.... 10/12 & 14/16. Everything else only went up to 7/8.

And sorry that you have dealt with that same buddy system! :( Seems like everyone here has been in the same spot as us at some point.

Yes, we did very much enjoy our trip! We have been going to Nags Head just about every year since before Ben was 1. With the exception of day trips to VA beach, it is the only beach my kids have been to!! We rent a house most years with John's sister, her hubby, and daughter. It is great family time and we all get along so well. I was sad to see it end.

We LOVE Sugar Creek!!! We ate there this trip. We've also gotten the seafood to go from Sugar Shack right next door. Superb!! We also ate at Goombays, Tortuga's Lie, and Jimmy's buffet this trip. We are foodies everywhere we go!

We, too, like to go into Manteo although we didn't get out there this trip and we were sad! We've been to the Aquarium tons of times and I love to go browse through all the shops at The Christmas Shop. Ben's birthday fell while we were there so a first for us was to go go-carting. The kids (and adults) had a grand time. We just love the whole area so much. We've talked about Myrtle Beach but we just can't seem to give up Nags Head. Plus, it's already a long drive for John's sister and that would be even further so we are staying put! We stayed south this year (MP 17) and I think we will stay at that end from now on. They did a beach restoration project and the sand area was HUGE! There were never crowds. Can you tell I"d go back in a heartbeat?!?

I am going to keep looking for the dresses! Thanks for the offer but I will need to try them on her...she's not tall but is short waisted with long legs so I have to put things on her to make sure they are right. It's so frustrating because she can wear a 7/8 in some things but needs a 10/12 in others...makes no sense to me!:confused3

That's great that you have family that you get along with so well. I would love to rent a house with my parents for a week, but we keep spending all our vacation money on WDW. :rolleyes1

We've eaten at Tortuga's Lie also, but I can't remember what we got and if we liked it? I'm getting old. We also ate at Basnight's the last time we were there. The atmosphere was AWESOME! We ate in a covered outdoor room overlooking the sound and they had a live band playing! It was great! BUT, the food was just so so and it was too expensive IMO, so we probably won't go back. We've also tried Windmill Point and again, so so food and prices too high. The last few trips there we have actually eaten at Sugar Creek more than once b/c it is so darn good! Sounds like we enjoy eating on vacation too! ;)

I didn't know they have a go cart track though?? I've never seen it. I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one next time.

I totally understand about the dresses. My DD is the exact same way. I can never just buy her something in her size because everything fits her differently. She is the same way even with shoes! She needs one size in tennis shoes and a different size in flip flops! I don't get it!

I'm checking in and I see you have done some shopping. Unfortuately all pix are blocked on my work computer.:rolleyes1

I'll be back to check it out later.

Love that - Just keep shopping! Great Motto!
