No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems: A Tremendously Tropical PTR

I'm checking in and I see you have done some shopping. Unfortuately all pix are blocked on my work computer.:rolleyes1

I'll be back to check it out later.

Love that - Just keep shopping! Great Motto!

Well this last update is certainly a boring one without pictures.

A good shopping trip is just the right medicine for what ails you sometimes! Well, it helps me... DH doesn't exactly feel the same way. :rolleyes1

I have good news to share this morning, thank goodness!

So should I start with the good news, the really good news, or the "totally awesome dude" news? (I am so sorry for all the corny Nemo references in my TR... I just can't help myself... :rolleyes1)

Ok, I'll start small and work my way up....

1. Only one more week of summer vacation!!! :cool2: I know that is awful of me, but I can only take so much more girl drama this summer before I go  . I really will miss my DD, but keeping three girls can drive you batty. 2 girls= fun.... 3 girls= :headache: :lovestruc:snooty::rolleyes2:hyper::sad::hug: :crowded: (smilie interpretation... love, hate, drama, repeat...... love, hate, drama, repeat....)

2. The demolition of my house is finished and I now have a covered patio with shade..... glorious shade!!! :cloud9: I still have to get all the furniture back in place and do some cleaning, but the construction is done! :worship:

3. I caved and decided to join the Fish Extender group for our cruise. I think I will just make the deliveries really early one morning before everyone gets up so it won't take time away from our activities. Right now there are 13 families participating. Should be fun for DD!

4. I did my online check in for the cruise and we got the earliest port arrival time. Not sure that is a big deal, but I'll take small victories at this point! We have also been assigned a stateroom so now I know where I will be living for 3 days while on the ship. We are on the second floor at the front of the ship. Probably not a great location, but who cares... I'm going on a Disney cruise! :woohoo:

5. My cruise IS PAID IN FULL!!!! :rainbow::rainbow::rainbow: We booked the 3 night cruise because we had no choice with the way DH's job situation worked out. The 4 night cruise would have been great, but I know the 3 night will be fabulous too! No complaining or pouting here!

6. We DID get a reservation for the dolphin encounter at Blue Lagoon! :jumping1: I also decided to only book the snorkeling rental equipment for CC and skip the Stingray Adventure this time. I just don't think we will have time for all that other stuff and I don't want to feel rushed. It will be there next time! Besides, I really want to try out those hammocks on the beach for a while!

It has been a busy and productive weekend! :yay: Just a little more than two months to go!

Those are some super good happenings!:dance3:
You guys are going to have a fantastic time! I can't wait to see your pictures!!

What are your exact dates?

All of your news is wonderful!!! :goodvibes

I'm so glad everything is settled, booked and now you can just enjoy the countdown to your fabulous vacation.:banana::banana:

Just catching up after our long weekend in Charleston. Love the outfits you bought for your DD! And to get them at such a great price? Score!

But.........where is all your stuff, Mom is important too you know :thumbsup2

I have a neighbor that has girls and she says the same thing, 2 girls are a breeze, but you get more than that together and it's all drama, all the time

Congrats on getting the particulars ironed out for your cruise, and having it paid in full, that is great news :woohoo:

Yep, I was pretty excited about all that news too! Couldn't you tell by the overload of smilies! I went back and read that update after I posted it and thought to myself, "They are going to think I was totally spazzed out on caffeine when I wrote that!" :rolleyes1 I wasn't though... it was a 100% all natural Disney high! :hyper:

Well, I probably spoke too soon.... I changed some dining plans over the weekend and am still wondering if I have it like I want it. Is the planning really ever over until you are on your way home? I know I have even made changes while I am actually there at WDW before! :rolleyes1 Indecisiveness is a sickness I tell ya!

Welcome home! I hope you had a fantastic time in Charleston. We live about 5 hours from there and have never been. :sad2: Crazy, I know. We had planned to stop there and in Savannah on the way home from our first WDW trip in '08, but we were just way too exhausted. It is on my travel wish list though. Like you, I think it would be a perfect adults only anniversary trip. I can't wait to hear all about it on your TR (if you choose to share it with us that is :flower3:).

I know. I am terrible about buying way too much stuff for my DD and practically nothing for myself. I think you would see that you would be more like that if you had girls. There are just sooooo many cute things for girls that you can't resist. And may I remind you how you are with your niece.... :rolleyes1 Yep, I've totally got you on that one... don't even try to defend yourself!

Your neighbor is VERY much correct. There is some kind of chemical reaction that occurs when more than two girls are in the same room. It's kind of like 2 girls are baking soda and the third one is vinegar. When #3 is added into the mix, there is an instant explosion, and let me tell you, my house has been erupting all summer long!

I'm very excited about having the cruise paid off. That makes it feel more real and like it's right around the corner!

I am FAMOUS for making changes once I get down there, I actually love making changes on the fly. :rotfl:

YAY :cool1: I'm so glad you have all your plans in place now and everything paid off and the dolphin encounter booked!! :woohoo:

I'll probably share some pictures and a bit about what we did, I'll definitely post my pics on FB though, so be on the lookout there :thumbsup2

You and your DH MUST take a trip to Charleston sometime! We really had a great time, and it's a fantastic city. We did see plenty of people with children, but I agree that it is a better adults only trip than a family destination. I think my boys would like bits and pieces of it, but the history and tours would bore them after awhile  I will say that Jared is quite jealous that we got to see the places where they filmed the mini-series the North & South. I bought that on DVD not long ago when I found it in a bargin bin somewhere and we've been watching it. He thinks it's so cool that we were in the homes of the Main's and Hazzard's

 I do NOT like making changes. It stresses me out, yet I feel compelled to do it. I'm telling you.... I have issues! I need to be more like you on that though. I think I would have more fun if I didn't feel glued to my plans.

YAY :cool1: I'm so glad you have all your plans in place now and everything paid off and the dolphin encounter booked!! :woohoo:

Me too! I was worried we wouldn't get that dolphin excursion since it is very limited, but we did! :woohoo: Mind you, I was up at midnight on the dot making my reservations though... ... gotta love Disney style trip planning!

I'll probably share some pictures and a bit about what we did, I'll definitely post my pics on FB though, so be on the lookout there :thumbsup2

I know I would love Charleston. I love anything to do with history. I got my degree in education so I could teach, but I had taken so many history classes for electives that I only needed a few more to get a second degree in history, so that's what I did. I took either geography, world cultures, or some kind of history for ALL of my college electives b/c I just love it! I think that goes hand in hand with my love for travel though. If I ever do go back to work full time, I am pretty sure I will try to do something with my history degree and forget that the education degree is even there. :rolleyes1 I think I would love to work somewhere like Charleston or Williamsburg where history and travel/tourism are combined.

I can't wait to hear about your trip! I will definitely be looking for it on FB too. I know your pictures will be great! I'm curious to know what your DH thought too? I want to know if he is a travel grump in general or just a Disney grump. :rotfl:

As for shopping for girls... let me tell you, it never ends. You find a cute outfit and think oh, that's not too much, I need to get that. BUT, then you have to find cute sandals to match (b/c one pair of white sandals that matches everything is just no fun, ya know). Then you "need" accessories like hair bows, belts, little purses, etc. I'm telling you, be glad you have boys! I would be willing to bet that you spend less on your 2 boys than I do on my 1 girl! :sad2: And what the boys cost you for sports doesn't count either b/c the girls rack it up on dance, cheerleading, soccer, recitals.... :upsidedow

Well after a month of PTR cruise chatter, it’s finally time to get off the Dream and move onto the second leg of this trip. Once we have our last breakfast on the Dream, we will inevitably be forced to walk the plank! If any of you are cruising on the Dream after October I will apologize in advance for the long fingernail marks in the carpet left behind from my scratching and clawing as they drag me off the ship!

There is a bright spot here though, and that is the fact that we won’t be forced off the ship and immediately faced with a 10 hour drive back home down I-95. Nope! Not this time. Three days in paradise just isn’t quite enough, so we will be heading out for a seven night stay at a very tremendously tropical Disney resort! Oh, you want to know which one? Well I think maybe I will keep that a secret until I get back.

He he he! Just kidding!

In keeping with the tropical theme for this trip, I decided we would try out…

I know it isn’t the Beach Club or the Poly (two of my dream resorts), but it is very exciting for us nonetheless! We have never stayed at a moderate resort before, and we are thrilled to be trying out a new place. CBR has always appealed to me anyway, and I knew that it would be the first moderate resort that I would like stay at. I have never been willing to spend the extra money to upgrade from a value to a mod before because it wasn’t worth the cost to us considering that we spent very little time at the hotel. However, everything fell into place this year and it just made sense to stay at a moderate.

On our last two trips, we were able to get the regular dining plan for free at a value resort. In ’08, we got it through our Disney Visa and in ’09, we got it through a pin code. This year, we got nothing, no pin code… no Disney Visa offer, and the free dining offer that came out to the general public required you to stay at moderate resort to get the regular dining plan. So I did some fuzzy Disney math and figured out that it was only $300 more to just book our stay at a mod vs. paying for a dining upgrade to stay at a value (hope all this made sense). I thought it was well worth $300 to get to try out CBR, so we booked it and haven’t looked back!

So why CBR? Well, I think some pictures would answer that much better than my babbling could!

She’s a looker, that’s for sure! The beauty of CBR is no doubt what first drew me in.

I have requested a room in Jamaica. I think it is the prettiest section, and I absolutely LOVE the colors of the buildings in that village.

You can see from this map that Jamaica is just across the bridge, so I am hoping it will be a quick walk to the pirate pool.

There are two types of rooms at CBR. They have rooms that are Nemo themed or you can book a pirate room that looks like this…

cb.jpg

Cool huh?

We however, will be in a Nemo room which we are all very happy about. We LOVE Nemo! It is probably our favorite Disney movie.

Ok, I have established that CBR is gorgeous and has some pretty cool rooms, but that wasn’t all that attracted me to this resort. In fact, I have a really long list of reasons I want to stay at CBR, so here’s what I like other than the obvious:

Lush tropical look and shady promenade… perfect for an evening stroll…

caribbean-beach-049-Jamaica_jpg.jpg

or if your feet are too tired, you can rent a surrey bike and cruise the mile and a half trek around the water (I hope we have time to do this).

IMG_0412.jpg

Covered bus stops with ceiling fans (very nice touch)... I’m looking forward to waiting for a bus in the shade!

G12.jpg

Hair braiding station by the pool... I just think that’s cool.

P7.jpg

Banana Cabana… ok, I am not a drinker, but the name is cute and I might get something cool and fruity without the alcohol.

The beaches… DD loves the sand… we love the hammocks! It’s a win win!

CBRBeaches01.jpg

The marina… it’s beautiful and you can rent bikes and watercraft there. They also have a pirate cruise for kids!

Ceiling fans in the rooms… this is a big one to me. I cannot sleep well without a fan, so I am WAY excited about this!

And a fridge… at no charge!

CBR is cheerful, bright and colorful during the day…

Illuminations… you can see it from the beaches!

Cute little courtyards… they look like an inviting place to have some breakfast before hitting the parks and a nice place to relax at night when we get back.

The food court… first of all, it is the coolest looking food court I have ever seen, and secondly, I have heard nothing but good things about the food. I hope it really is as good as everyone says.

And there is one more thing that I know I am going to love, but I can’t post a picture of it… steel drum music! From what I understand they have calypso style music playing around the resort. I LOVE THAT!

I really hope that we love CBR as much as I think we will!

Now, I’d love to hear from you. Disgames and audience participation always makes PTRs more fun, so don’t be shy! Let’s compile a “Disney Hall of Fame” of sorts during the WDW portion of this PTR. So here’s what I want to know…. “What is your favorite Disney World resort and why?” It does not have to be a resort you have stayed at before, just your favorite. Also, please feel free to post your favorite resort pictures (we’ll say up to 3) from a previous trip (one you have stayed at or just one you have visited, it doesn’t matter). I’ll start off first…

Disney Hall of Fame: Resorts

My favorite WDW resort is the Beach Club. Why? One reason… Stormalong Bay!

These are some of my favorite resort pictures. All three were taken at the Grand Floridian on our first trip back in 2008!

Ok, it’s your turn!

Well I'm glad the cat is finally out of the bag and we can talk freely about CBR!!!!! :cool1: I just know you are going to love it. :thumbsup2 I can't wait to be there -- in 10 DAYS!! :yay:

Yay for the fan and the fridge. Definitely pros for CBR. :thumbsup2

Try the rotisserie chicken and vegetables at the food court. Very good. ::yes::

The gift shop did have some different things than Pop did. It's bright and colorful and pretty big.

The pool - I know our girls would love it.

I agree about the cool music in the air, too, as you walk around that bright, colorful place.

CBR is high on my list of places I have not checked off yet. I hope you have a great time there! :cool1:

I think you will love CBR, I know we did! We spent lots of time at the pool and the kids loved the slides! The food was great and it was beautiful! DD has already said she would like to stay there again!

:cool1: for having the cruise paid off!

Yay! I think you will like CBR. Not my fave resort, but I would def stay there again!

OK playing the game:
Fave Resort: Beach Club. I stayed there in 08 and LOVED it. The location was perfect. It seemed to be an equal travel distance from all the parks. The busses weren't too crowded, and came frequently, the boat to DHS and EPCOT was so convenient. SAB was great but we didn't spend as much time there as I would have liked.

I somehow missed reading your TR yesterday :scared1: But I am now caught up :)

Congrates on paying off your cruise and finalizing crusing plans.

To show you how much I know about cruising I thought you picked your cabin when you booked the cruise.

CBR looks lovely, I wanted to stay there the year we stayed POFQ but DH said it was too big, he is funny that way.

I just know you are going to have a blast staying there, I have to agree it made sense to book the mod instead of staying at a value and having to upgrade the DP.

Love those coconut postcards, never saw those before, very kewl idea

Can't help but notice that some of you girls didn't do your homework! :teacher: :sad2: Shame, shame on you! Don't make me write a note home to your parents! I mean, come on now, you can at least tell me what your favorite resort is even if you don't post any pictures. :rolleyes1

Well I'm glad the cat is finally out of the bag and we can talk freely about CBR!!!!! :cool1: I just know you are going to love it. :thumbsup2 I can't wait to be there -- in 10 DAYS!! :yay:

Oh darn! I forgot to give you an honorable mention in my post for convincing me to try CBR! I want everyone to know that if we don't like it, it was your fault! :rotfl:

Just kidding, I know we will like it! What's not to like, right? :confused3

I am actually kinda glad that the FD offer worked out the way it did. I really wanted to stay at CBR this time and I have a feeling that I would have talked myself out of it if I could have gotten the FD at Pop. But for only $300 difference, it was a no brainer! When I have priced it out on previous trips, it was $800-1,000 more to stay there, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It was meant to be this time! :woohoo:

So do you have any suggestions of what to order at the food court? I know you guys have eaten there several times, so you must have favorites?

Yay for the fan and the fridge. Definitely pros for CBR. :thumbsup2

Amen to that! Sometimes it's the little things that make life grand!

Try the rotisserie chicken and vegetables at the food court. Very good. ::yes::

That sounds delicious! I am a big time vegetable lover so I know I would love that! Thanks for the tip!

The gift shop did have some different things than Pop did. It's bright and colorful and pretty big.

I'm looking forward to snooping around in there.

The pool - I know our girls would love it.

Yep! If we could have been there at the same time this year we could have done our dismeet at the pool and let the girls play together. I know my DD would have LOVED playing with Brooklyn in the pool!

I agree about the cool music in the air, too, as you walk around that bright, colorful place.

I love island music. If that doesn't get you in a tropical mood, nothing will!

CBR is high on my list of places I have not checked off yet. I hope you have a great time there! :cool1:

I hope you can stay there on one of your upcoming trips. Maybe a free dining deal will work out for you like it did for us. :wizard: Or maybe you could try staying there on one of your shorter trips so it isn't as expensive.

replies in blue

:cool1: for having the cruise paid off!

I'm so glad to hear that you liked CBR. I think most people do, but there are some complaints about the size and the bus system. We'll see what we think soon enough, but I feel like we are going to be hooked!

We are really looking forward to that pool. It is so cool! pirate:

Glad you liked the food too. We usually eat several meals at the resort food courts so that's good to hear. Memom likes the rotis. chicken and veggies.... did you guys have a favorite?

Yay! I think you will like CBR. Not my fave resort, but I would def stay there again!

I'm totally with you on the Beach Club! It is so pretty and that pool area is rockin' awesome! And I think you are right too that the location is great.

You are right... you do get to choose your cabin when you book... most of the time. We booked a "GTY" room, which just means that you have to wait to be assigned a room, but you are guaranteed to have one. The rooms are a little cheaper if you book one of those. We saved about $100 by doing that, which was fine by me because I didn't really care where they put us. Some people also like to book the GTY rooms because you have the possibility of getting a free upgrade. Some people have been booked in a higher category cabin when they get their room assignment than what they paid for. That didn't happen for us though. We got an inside stateroom just like we paid for.

The size of CBR is the only thing that concerns me too. I don't want to have to walk myself to death just to get to the pool, bus stop, or food court. I hope we get a good room assignment so that doesn't happen. That's the only thing I can think of that would make me not like staying there.

I think we made the right choice on booking a moderate too. I had been wanting to stay at CBR for a long time, but it always added $800-1000 to all our previous trips and I just couldn't do it. So for $300, I couldn't pass it up!

Aren't those coconuts cute! I think that is such a neat idea too! I think they may have them at the Poly and possibly at Castaway Cay too, but I can't say for sure. Seems like I have read that though. I wish I could see the look on my mom's face when she pulls a coconut out of the mailbox! :lmao:

Great updates (I'm a little behind). Love all your good news and LOVE CBR! You will too! The walking isn't too bad - you'll notice it at the end of a long park day, but...

My favorite resort (at this moment) is AKL! It's so unique, so relaxing...I love it! BUT, I also loved Beach Club and it's proximity to Epcot's IG entrance.
