This is a really silly question, I think, but I've never flown Southwest before. If my family gets separated while seating at our origination (or we get all middles in the back of the plane), can we move to whatever seats we want when we make our no plane change stop?

Yes, after the passengers who have reached their destination deplane and the flight attendants get a head count for those continuing on, you can change your seats.

My suggestion is to get on SWA 24 hours before your flight and attempt to get as early a boarding number possible. You shouldn't have trouble finding seats together or near each other on your originating flight.
