I think you nailed it. So, so sad - the "new" system is so jacked up that no one can confirm from one day to the next what to expect; many of the ground level managers were openly hostile/snappy. It makes me wonder if this attitude is coming from the top (upper management) they are either tolerating it and/or encouraging it to minimize payouts to disgruntled customers. I have listed and have contracts on 3 of my 4 timeshares. I will be taking my whole family later this year for our 1st Grand Villa resv. I hope it won't be my last trip.

This whole thread aside You're on holiday, not required to drive anywhere, occasionally it's nice to not have to worry about a wallet/purse/handbag. Essentially that would be one reason I'd enjoy using a magic band, knowing that I could go into the parks without anything but this band. If you need ID as well as the band, then it starts being less convenient.

I don't think ID is required, but if something goes wrong with the magic bands, it may be easier to resolve if you have some form of picture ID. Also, what happens if you lose your magic band while you're in a park? Do you honestly think GS would give you a replacement without some form of ID?

Um, there are about a million reasons why you should carry an ID (even on vacation). What if the resort bus you were on was in an accident? What if your Magic Band fell off and GR needed proof you were you before replacing it? What if your tickets got messed up? What if you wanted to buy an adult beverage (it is vacation after all)?

It's rather silly for adults to think they don't need to carry an ID simply because it's vacation.

Yes, I agree. If you want any adult beverages at all you should be prepared to show ID. Many places, including Disney, will ask even if you look well over the age of 21 to be sure they are not serving underage guests. Also, regardless of whether your ticket/KTTW is a card or a band, if it needs to be replaced for any reason you will need ID to do it.

That is exactly why we never carried our IDs or wallets or my pocketbook. Simply for our convenience. We had charging privileges on KTTW cards so there was no need for credit cards (and you needed a password to use the cards for charging not an ID), we just simply brought some cash for snacks. My dd is attached to her iphone so i did not have to carry mine. Being in my 40s I have not been asked for ID in order to enjoy an adult beverage in a VERY long time, and I don't really drink. My husband always brought his iphone and usually carried all of our KTTW cards since his shorts had the deepest pockets and he would not lose them. We also almost always stayed together and if we did separate we would take our own KTTW cards and meet up later. And in 15 years we never run into any major problems that required an ID. I know some people never go anywhere without their pocketbooks but for me personally it has been very convenient to lock everything in our safe and not carry a thing.

I'm in my 50's and am asked every time I order a drink. It's required here for you to have your ID on you when you drink. So they ask you to show it not just to prove you are old enough but to prove you have your ID. The fines to the restaurant for not asking are the same as serving under age. They could loose their liquor permit for a period of time if they do it enough. Since I am not as up on laws in FL and I'm used to having my ID with me anyway then I bring it as an essential. Trust me, I don't carry a purse but I don't need one for a little old DL.

Plus, I use a Disney Visa and to get the discount on items in the park you need to show the Visa, not just having it tied to your band.

Yes, they are so wonderful until they don't work just like everything computerized.

I guess I just have more confidence in my ability to not lose my ID than I do in Disney's ability to make magic bands work 100% of the time.

LOL... I agree. I've lived with a DL for about 35 years and I've managed to never loose it (knock on wood). I am fairly sure I can manage a week in Disney and come out the back side with it too

It really is mystifying. 358 days a year, I carry a wallet with cash and an ID. Doesn't matter if I am going to work. To an aquarium. A zoo. A different amusement park. Wherever. But the 7 days that I am at WDW all of a sudden it becomes an incredible hardship to carry cash, an ID and a KTTW card? I liked the comment earlier about how convenient the MBs were, "especially after returning to your resort room after a tiring day." Wow! Dipping into one's pocket to pull out a key card is a taxing chore? What does one do when one returns from walking around NYC all day if they vacation there? Call security and hope that they let them in to their hotel room because they are too exhausted to pull out their key card? When I am away from home, I purge all non-esssential "stuff" out of my wallet and place it in the room safe. Money, a credit card, my KTTW card, my ID, and my medical information card all come with me. My rule of thumb when I am away from home.....Assume that I am found unconscious by a stranger. What information would I need on my person to ensure that I received competent medical attention and an emergency contact could in fact be contacted. Common sense. And it applies at WDW same as everywhere else.

Yes, and all the privacy statements in the world are great until someone else wants or hacks info. With computers so much is avail with the stroke of a key. PFCHaing restaurants are back to using carbon copies to hopefully help avoid future hacking.

Do you typically not carry your ID every day at home? How are you more likely to lose it on vacation?

However, I haven't carried any cash in years and don't at WDW, either. Don't see a need for it.

It may not be necessary....but you just never know where life is going to lead you. If you are going to carry around, (at a minimum) an ID card, one single, thin, light, unubtrusive $20 bill isn't going to make or break anything. I just feel better knowing that I am prepared for anything. Besides, (and I recognize that this is a personal preference), I hate charging small items. When my kid wants popcorn or a Mickey Bar, those types of purchases are always done with cash. QS lunches also. I hate getting hotel bills at the end of the trip that are 5 pages long with 150 line item charges on them.

We made the mistake of not carrying cash on our first WDW trip. There were a bunch of kiosks in World Showcase that would only take cash. We were shut out of the delicious World Showcase snacks we were coveting.
It may be different now, but I wouldn't know because I always carry cash. It's not difficult to carry, so better safe than sorry.
