No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

I haven't read the whole thread, so excuse me if this was already asked. How would this work with iced tea? Is it on the same type of dispenser or is the dispenser where you flip the handle up to dispense the tea? I guess they can change the dispenser out, huh?

Doesn't really bother me except it is sad that dishonest people are now inconveniencing everybody.

I don't have a problem buying the mugs for the first visit, but if we happen to go back within the year, I'm not buying 4 more mugs of the same design. I don't bring ours back either, we just fill our room refrigerator with drinks and water.

I don't know the exact ounces, but the new mugs are much smaller than the pre-2000 ones.

I don't remember when they switched from the old size to the new...it had to be around 2005ish...and I know CSR held out longer than anyone - heck, they may still have the old CSR mugs there, for all I know - but the old mugs were bigger, cuter and resort-specific.

Although I like the current mugs (HM and beach versions), the newer, non-resort-specific mugs are generally generic and/or ugly. They're also very small. If you use a normal amount of ice, they won't hold a can of pop.

I just measured the one I bought in January 2011 - it holds 2 cups of liquid (500mL or 16oz).

I'd bet if you took your flat Coke to a CM they could override the delay and get you another fill immediately.

and where would you find this cast member....I don't remember anyone being there at the drink station unless it was someone mopping up a spill or filling the napkins. I doubt that every cast member would be given an override key. It would probably take more than five minutes to locate a CM who has a key and get it done. I mentioned this same concern earlier, because it has happened several times during every trip we have taken. My vote would be to add a small amount per night to room rate and give everyone a free drink mug. That would mean the cost would be more than covered and no one would be stealing soda. Disney Cruise Line gives everyone free soda at the drink stations.

One more thing and then I am going to try to stop thinking about this. But, how many of you have filled your mugs and discovered the Coke was flat or tasted funny? I have. On several occasions. If I am understanding correctly, I am blocked out for 5 minutes from refilling.

That all comes under the heading of...you get what you paid for! Oh, wait...you didn't pay for anything except a souvenir mug. How silly of me.

Except the advertising says that you get a mug with unlimited refills during your length of stay not just a mug.

As for the PP who suggested that a fee be added to a reservation automatically, there are those people who don't want a mug so they would likely protest. And then there are those who change their minds and want to buy one. A simple concept can become very complicated can't it? :)

I don't know what resort you were staying at. I always stay at POR or POFQ. There was always a CM there, servicing the drinks & condiments area and clearing tables. If a drink was flat, I would go to the other side, but report the problem to the CM. POR and POFQ didn't have a big problem with soda being out, like you are reporting from your resort.

Good point.

I have dumped it out and gone to another spot. ::yes::

I agree. Just last week I walked into Crystal Palace for breakfast, grabbed a plate and started eating. I told the CM "I paid for this buffet last year. Why should I have to pay again?" :lmao:

yes cause that's the same exact thing. who cares, it's all you can drink, oh well go cry a river.

I don't think this has been implemented yet. As far as I know, it will just be tried at All-Star Sports to start with. So, it wouldn't have affected your recent use.

that's were i used my mug at, all star sports. i bought it at WL and it worked fine at All Star Sports Resort

I have no problem with the chips being put in the mugs. Actually, I think it's about time Disney started cracking down on all the nonsense( hopefully, pool hoppers and those who keep a crockpot in their room will be next:rotfl2:).

You spend hundreds of dollars at the minimum for a WDW trip. But you're going to try to cheat the system over a $15 dollar mug? There's being frugal and then there's flat out cheap. Disney is a business- they are in this to make money. I know that it's not very "magical" to say that, but it's true.

I think those who were dishonest had it pretty good for a long time. So, it caught up with you. Oh well.:confused3

I agree with a previous poster that said that they should make different designs though- good for collecting.

...aaaand here's why this is being implemented. Thanks for helping disney prove a point! :thumbsup2

disney is making so much money i'm sure the least of there problems is guests using old mugs for soda. If it's such a problem than get rid of the all you can drink re-fill system. What's next, you can't bring your own food to disney and eat it?

:lmao::lmao:

Totally agree! :thumbsup2

As far as bringing your own food, plenty of parks that don't allow that already. I'm surprised that Disney allows it. I wouldn't have a problem with them changing that too.

I guess I'm just niave but people do THAT?? Why anyone thinks they are entitled to more "discounts" than others is absolutely ridiculous. Next thing you know Disney going to have to start asking for proof of age before you can buy a ticket. :sad2:
I think it's a game to some people. I have relatives that are affluent but try to cheat the system any way they can. One recently got arrested for shoplifting:lmao:. Moron.

Eventually, the free ride stops. And, I think Disney will start cracking down. Unfortunate for the honest, but it needs to be done.

:wizard: I'm confused by this because if you chose not to purchase the refillable mug and just buy your drinks with each meal how will the paper cup make the machines work? They can't possibly put chips in all the disposable cups....:confused3

This is the type of lemming mentality that allows them to take more and more away from us. It's such an honor that they allow us to pay them money to vacation there, isn't it?

I think that its very nice that they allow guest to bring in outside food. For some families, this is a way to help them afford to bring their kids to Disney. I have 3 kids and without free dining, we wouldn't be there. One counter service meal can cost us $60. I also think its one of the "nice" things that separate Disney from other theme parks. It makes them seem friendlier.

Our June trip was our 5th trip, and we actually did stay at Port Orleans once. Maybe I missed all the CM servicing the drink the station, but I sure don't remember them. Infact, the one time that a running child knocked my drink out of my hand (at Pop Century) I couldn't find a CM so I told one of the ladies at the register and she had someone clean up the spill.

Like I said, I always buy the mugs for everyone on every trip, but I do so for the convenience and not so much for the savings. I just hope that fixing the problem of stealing soda doesn't create inconvience for those of us who have always paid.

That's a very good question.

It is nice of Disney to allow people to bring their own food into the parks. They don't have to let people bring in food, and they would make make more money if they didn't. Most parks are not as accomodating.

You don't have to be a lemming to see that either.

As far as not "allowing" them to take more things away from us, the only way to stop it would be for enough people to stop going to WDW to make them take notice. And I am just not willing to do that. I think it the grand scheme of things what they have taken away is not that big a deal. Maybe you have reached your limit but I have not.

That's a very good question.

Chips on one-time cups was talked about on page 4 of this thread. Some said the chips could be put on for a fraction of a penny each. Later on, I asked -- if the one-time cups came with a chip, would a refill or two be allowed, as is customary at a self-serve drink set-up. This would be important in helping to decide on purchasing an unlimited mug or not, because I like to "top off" a partially-consumed drink with new ice and a splash of soda before I leave a self-service restaurant.
