No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

You know what else would solve the problem and not cause any confusion at all? Stop the entire program. Charge for any drink that you get and that would be that. Easy for them, no additional expense to implement, and probable increased profits. If someone would actually not visit Disney anymore because they couldn't get free drinks, well, I suspect they have other issues as well.

So if everyone that loads up year after year on free drinks, when it is obvious that this was not the intent, doesn't mind that the whole thing will just go away if it gets to be a big enough pain in the butt, then they should continue on.

I guess I'm just niave but people do THAT?? Why anyone thinks they are entitled to more "discounts" than others is absolutely ridiculous. Next thing you know Disney going to have to start asking for proof of age before you can buy a ticket. :sad2:

Oh, you have no idea. ;) LOL

The mugs in trial at All Star Sports are not stickers. The chip is imbedded in the mug.

My understanding is that the chip in the one time use cups are equivalent to a sticker on the bottom of the cup. Similar to what stores put on CDs and movies for anti theft.

No, I am not calling you a liar, I am expressing an opinion. If doing a search on Dis indicates that no one else has ever seen what you saw at the Polynesian, then I am stating my opinion based on the facts on these boards. Again there are hundreds of posts from people who when they bought the mugs were told that they were good for life at the resort where they were purchased. Are they liars too?

It's all right if you want to express an opinion, but don't tell me I didn't see what I saw. I've never said others didn't hear what they were told. I only stated what I saw in 1997 at the Polynesian.

Well...last night I only stated what I had heard from a reliable source concering Coca Cola providing the syrup free for the exclusive advertising rights as reported by a source that I consider extremely reliable and you had no problem insinuating over on the Mousecellaneous board that I probably was out to lunch (reference your quote from that thread below)
"So, if I talk to a guy who drive the Coke truck and he says differently, it's a fact??"

Now...let's please get this thread back on topic as to what people are observing at the trial resort and how they perceive that this trial is going, shall we????

Technically, it's three separate trips. Just like you did Pop Century and went home, then returned to SOG and went home, and then returned to POR and went home. But your going home only lasts as long as it takes to empty your room and get to the new one.

If you purchased a package for each of those three stays, you would have to purchase at least a one day ticket for each of the stays. You couldn't buy one longer ticket for the first part and use it for the other stays. And tickets cost a lot more than mugs.

If you try to use an unchipped vessel or one that has expired, you will get ice water.

Thanks for your response--but another BUT--we have AP's, and we just have Room Only ressies. Now what do you think will happen-:o)??? Maybe we should just forget the mugs--hopefully as I mentioned--I doubt (fingers crossed) that we will have this problem this trip.

We have APs and were still able to get a dining plan.

Ya know, it sounds like you are calling me a liar. I don't think that is appropriate on the DIS. I know what I saw.

DisDeac, when we stayed at the GF in Sugarload, we had a few mugs in our room as well. But they were a part of the honor bar, so if they were gone from the honor bar, we were charged for them.

Our first on property stay was in Nov. 1999 at CSR and the mugs were sitting in our room on the table. If we wanted to purchase the mugs we were to just take them from the room and use them at the QS drink station. There was signage around the drink dispensers, and on the mugs, that the mugs were good at the drink refill station at the resort purchased for the length of stay. Still have those mugs even though they look very worn and we've retired them from our cabinet. WDW can't win or lose on the whole mug/drink refill thing and everyone will always find away to complain about it and try to get around doing what is supposed to be right.

After reading a bit more, I have no problem with the new system. If they give you 70 seconds to fill your cup, that should be plenty of time to "take a sip" to make sure the flavor/carbonation is okay and still fill your cup. I don't love the waiting 5 min bc DH can suck down a diet coke in 10 seconds so I will just be standing around waiting for him to get his refill but I'll be waiting in Disney so life could be worse:rotfl:.

The one thing I would like to see added if they implement this property wide is the ability to buy a new sticker and reuse your mug on return trips say for 1year or some other amount of time. We have last years mugs and are planning on buying the new ones in Sept. but we have 6 weeks then return for another trip and I would love to be able to buy a sticker to keep from having to buy all new mugs. We will be back again next April so that is a lot of mugs in a relatively short period that I have to worry about finding space for once we are back home. Hopefully there will be a "green" initiative for them to reward people for reusing old mugs and just buying the stickers.

I got a question for anyone that has several mugs from over the years. Are the new mugs smaller? Go through the cabinets and get the mugs out, get a 2 cup measuring cup and see how many ozs they hold. When DD17 and I were there in March she commented on how small the new mugs look. I know in 2005 when you added ice the mug wouldn't hold 12oz. In 2005 we bought 1 mug because DBF needed his coffee. I stopped buying mugs in '00, I'd always bring a cooler with water, juice boxes, and coke for the drive. My then teenage daughters would go to food court bring back their food, forget to take their mugs and grab a can of coke from cooler. At Hess on site they sell 2 12 packs for $7.00, if I bought 2 mugs we'd have to refill 48 times each just to equal the price of cans. I bought one of those insulated water cups from DTD. Paid $16.95 for it, at work tonight I put ice in it, 6 hours later there is still ice. Prefer it to the mug sold at the resorts. At Bed, Bath, & Beyond the sell replacement straws and coffee style lid.

NO NO! again, it's NOT 3 trips. (as would say Andy, the Sheriff, talking to Barney Fife, trying to explain the dif. between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law :rotfl:)

of course no one is going to drive all the way from Illinois to florida and back again 3 times. IT's ONE vacation. ONE trip.
disney would rather (and encourages you to do so!!!!!) you spend more maney, staying for a few days at moderate and delsuxe resorts, than spend the whole trip (single trip!) at one value resort.
they even have resort to resort luggage service!!!!! ther you have it.. PROOF that Disney WANTS you to try out more expensive resorts, (as long as you're there in fla. anyway), even if just for a few days. you might like it, and next rip book there again, for even a few more days! '
AND you might stay ON WDW property!! instead of going over to the evil empire (uni) down the street. or anywhere else, for that matter.
and most people who book split stays do NOT book a package for each resort. we DO purchase tickets with a package for the first resort. and use them during our stay at the second and third resort.
One trip is one trip. one vacation is one vacation. you are staying ON WDW property, giving them MORe money than you would have if you stayed at a value resort the entire trip.
again, they SO MUCH want you to stay on property, and spend more on a dif. resort (sample as many as you can) that they.. for NO CHARGE!!! transfer your luggage from resort to resort to resort. you are a WDW guest for the entire SINGLE vacation.
( they do NOT tranfer it back to Illinois, than back to the 2nd resort etc etc.. I know that sounds silly, but no more silly than my upcoming vacation, at 3 dif. resorts, being more than ONE vacation)

I don't know the exact ounces, but the new mugs are much smaller than the pre-2000 ones.

I don't remember when they switched from the old size to the new...it had to be around 2005ish...and I know CSR held out longer than anyone - heck, they may still have the old CSR mugs there, for all I know - but the old mugs were bigger, cuter and resort-specific.

Although I like the current mugs (HM and beach versions), the newer, non-resort-specific mugs are generally generic and/or ugly. They're also very small. If you use a normal amount of ice, they won't hold a can of pop.

I'm one of those. I bought my first mug at WL in 2005 and the manager rang me up and made sure I knew the rules and told us that the mug was good for life and to remember to bring it back on all future trips. The mugs were made so well back then (Aladdin) and the size was HUGE. There is no writing on these mugs. I've since have sold almost all of my mugs on ebay this past year. I had no idea how many people collected the old mugs. My WL and Dixie mugs went for over $30-40 each!

Maybe someone already suggested this, but it would be nice if Disney could come up with some sort of a program for AP holders or frequent visitors. We try to go about 4 - 5times a year and I really don't want to purchase 8 or 10 mugs of the same design. What would you think about some sort of fee to bring back and use your old mug??

I think that's a great idea, Snoopy Two. Offer a discount if you bring back your old mug but still charge something.

Yes, it is. I had three separate reservation numbers. Mine was three separate trips even though I never left Orlando.

One more thing and then I am going to try to stop thinking about this. But, how many of you have filled your mugs and discovered the Coke was flat or tasted funny? I have. On several occasions. If I am understanding correctly, I am blocked out for 5 minutes from refilling.

They are just trying to get people to not use one mug to give drinks to their family of 6. The mug program was not designed for that. I think you can get a new fill every 5 minutes. Not a big deal.

I agree I think that it is good idea!!! The thing is when it abused the cost just will keep rising!I am a cheap person LOL but I do think that you have to be honest! There are other ways to save a buck!

I'd bet if you took your flat Coke to a CM they could override the delay and get you another fill immediately.
