No more guest sitting in the last row on Pirates

I was reading a story where they will no longer seat guests in the back row on the Pirates of the Caribbean, because of injuries to hands. I have not been since the boats were redesigned. Wouldn't people have to have their hands extended a good bit out of the boat to be injured this way?

I think the boats crash into each other now, maybe that is why?

I sat in the very back row in June. There is not a lot of space between you and the next boat when they bump together, it was kinda creepy.

Well darn that's a problem. The back row entrance is the spot where the entrance is wider for those in wheelchairs. I'm a wheelchair user and I can ride in the back row but not any of the others.

Seems to me like this is a case of having to protect against the idiots of the world. IMO if you don't follow directions (keep hands in the boat) and get your fingers cut off in a ride, serves you right.

Maybe, but new boat design is really poor!

Wow. So how many rows does Pirates have? 4 or 5? So that's a 20 or 25% reduction in ride capacity. Lovely. I suggest they redesign the redesigned boats...

Longer wait times because of really dumb behavior.

The concept of "Thinning the herd" has been in place for millions of years in the animal kingdom, why can't humans adapt it?

Why can't they just go back to using the old boats? I would think that would be a much simpler solution than eliminating the use of the back row seat.

I'll have to see it to believe it. I highly doubt they just aren't loading the back rows anymore because of a couple people not using their brain, or not supervising their children. I'll be there in about a week and a half so I'll have to see.

But if they really aren't loading the back rows, then might as well not load the front rows either. I could easily lean forward and put my hand in front of the boat. So then why not just make glass walls around the whole boat lol. For the millions of people that visit Disney and the handful that injury themselves by being careless, I don't see it creating such an issue to where they don't load a row.

Someone could easily jump in the water..So for taking precautions, why even have the ride open anymore lol. Could also jump out of the truck on the Safari at AK. Might as well put in further precautions. Joking aside, I'd be highly disappointed if they made any loading changes just due to a couple poor choices. If ANYTHING, renovate the ride where the boats don't collide with one another. Dont force wait times to grow longer by not loading a row.

The Daily Mail posted an article today saying that a 12 year old boy lost a few fingers on pirates before the incident involving the adult from the UK earlier this month. It came to light because Disney released their accident reports for the quarter.

The link in OP talks about that 12 yr old boy. But that article says he got cut on four of his fingers, not that he lost any

Truthfully we've ridden Pirates more times than I could remember. There is NO reason to have any part of you outside the boat except when getting in or out of it.
The announcements are made -- and made on many Disney attractions. People just don't pay attention and/or think they can do as they please. It's not a dangerous ride.
Yes, the boats bang into each other. If your hands are in front of you where there's a place to put them INSIDE THE BOAT, your hands won't get hurt.
I'm sure there'll be a committee formed, a study done, a redesign in the works, etc.
Don't know what they did this last time they made new boats, but you do get wetter and they do bang together -- we were on in the first week of May and the boats were running nearly empty first thing in the a.m. and they really slammed together at some points. Good time to keep your hands inside.

Not true - this is a case of the imagineers wanting to do something stupid, them pushing forward anyways, the test results coming back negative, and imagineering pushing back and saying we're doing it anyways. I guess they are going to have to change It's A Small World as well...I've seen more little kids with hands out on this ride and more bumping of boats than I've seen on POC...the bumping usually starts around 8-9 boats before disembarking...What next???

Seriously, the last thing that ride needs after the addition of FP is a reduction in capacity. Oy.
