No More Complimentary Bread?

While I disagree with the move, the cost isn’t just the price of the bread. It’s the service time to bring the bread, refill the bread. They probably -think- meals will go faster without the

Excellent point. Though the downside at a place like Disney -- the advantage of bread is to help pass the time before your food is brought. If you sit down at a Disney restaurant, starved after hours of touring.... a slow wait becomes even more frustrating if you don't have anything to hold you over.

So yes, it will encourage more appetizer ordering, more desserts as people are less full. But it will reduce guest satisfaction beyond people directly missing the bread. A 20-30 minute wait from being seated to getting food may suddenly seem much more painful if you don't have anything to hold you over.

Unfortunately I don’t think they’re as concerned about guest satisfaction. They’re more concerned about increasing dollars per head which they likely will by eliminating free bread. I completely agree though about it becoming tougher to wait with kids — I have a 3 year old and an 8 year old and feel the pain when they get “hangry”!!

Good point. Guest satisfaction doesn't matter anymore. Too many people will take your place and they don't care if you come back. When you have a product so many people want if they lose 20% of us they can easily make it up. I'm not negative it's pure economics.

We have rarely gotten bread at Disney restaurants in recent trips. Used to at Skipper Canteen and no longer do, none at Via Napoli (we had to pay for 2 years there). I feel like we didn’t even get any at BOG dinner last time but might be wrong about that. Definitely did at Mama Melrose though last summer. I’m too sleepy to remember the other restaurants right now.

Well, years+ ago (lol) the restaurants served bread/rolls and the butter was in the shape of Mickey heads. I was so upset when they stopped doing Mickey head butter.
I fondly recall those Mickey Mouse butter pats. One of the many small touches that made WDW so magical.

Then, for a long time, we only saw standard rectangular butter pats but, unless I'm dreaming this, I recall cute "D"-shaped butter pats at CRT when we ate there a few years ago.

We enjoy the bread service at Sanaa and Jiko and I don't mind paying for it. Sad to see if they start charging for things like pretzel bread at Le Cellier.

If that’s the issue, all they’d have to do is ask if you would like bread before serving it. Several restaurants we frequent at home do that. Easy solution, if all they are trying to do is limit waste.
Agreed . We just had dinner tonight at a local South Jersey Diner. When you order they ask if you want bread. Tonight since we were having a sandwich & omelet ( which came with toast) we said thanks but no thanks.
I won't be happy if they get rid of the rolls with oil dip at Mama Melrose or Boatwright's cornbread.

Well their toilet paper already sucks so no way I'm paying for that!

Don't worry, you'll be able buy the premium TP service for $15/person per day.

Ugh. Disney restaurants are already too slow with their service. I'm really glad my kids are older and able to wait on their food better. I feel for people with toddlers - they're going to need to make sure they add kid friendly appetizers if they want those families to add on paid apps in place of the free bread.

Ha! For that amount, the toilet paper better be 3-ply instead of the prison-issued 1-ply.

How about more simplified adult appetizers too? Some of the choices are too fancy for the average person.

I love those rolls at Mama Melrose's! Looking forward to a PP report back on this.
I agree, those rolls are Mama Melrose are irresistible! If we don't eat them all, I take what's left with me for snacking later.

I saw someone post on twitter yesterday that the rolls were still being served in Mama Melrose (at least they were yesterday). They even posted a picture for proof. :-)

It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things... but it is sad that so many little "freebies" are being slowly taken away, as the prices go up and up. There will be breaking point with Disney vacation value.
Only we decide what that will be. I already look at the price of TS dining and limit how many meals per trip.

I don't think we got bread the last two times I ate at Tiffins (9/2019, 12/2018). They do have the purchasable signature bread service.

We went in May 2018 for lunch to a practically empty restaurant, I don't remember paying for the service but we might have.

I hope that guests cause an uproar like they have with menu changes now and then that end up being reversed. It probably sounds silly but it's seriously one of my absolute favorite parts of some of these meals. I'll make a reservation specifically where I can get good bread with my dinner.

No doubt it's a cost cutter. Both on not having to provide a "free" item and not having people fill up too much on bread and then skipping out on appetizer or dessert. But it's a really bad move IMO.

We got bread at BOG dinner in late January, and it was so good we asked for seconds.

The less bread people eat before a meal, the more likely they are to order appetizers & dessert.

This happened a few years ago and lasted a very short while. People should voice their displeasure. While Disney loves to cut costs, they are not always okay with a slew of negative Nellies posting all over that the TS restaurants are a rip off.

Good luck with that. The parks, resorts and restaurants are packed. The negatives are minimal overall and maybe in the past those things have had a very tiny effect, this is a different time and place.

I remember getting complimentary bread at Via Napoli in July.
