No more bringing items to be signed...

Wow, they are stopping it as of my cruise. I already bought a photo mat. Guess I will be walking it around to characters.

Wonder if they'll let you use a sharpie marker while they're in costume?

In the other thread, someone reported DCL has indicated only autograph books will be signed at meet & greets.

I agree it's disappointing and short notice. But I can see DCL's viewpoint as well. The CM's doing this did so on their own personal time as it was never a DCL-offered service. They weren't being paid, so there is no reason for DCL to now decide to pay a CM to manage this. As others have speculated, it could have just become overwhelming to handle all the requests, or there could have been a liability issue with a breakable (plate), maybe complaints about quality; maybe just exhausted CMs sitting up all night signing items and then not on their game for work the next day.

I read about the person who was bringing in wooden anchors for them to sign...

Soooooooo glad I did not order the black and white disney plate to be signed :fish:

Yes, the characters will use a Sharpie to sign. My Grand Daughter has always had a Sharpie attached to her Disney Encyclopedia for the characters. We have never had a problem on the ship or in Disney World.

dang it! our very first cruise is in September and I just made pillowcases for our girls and the kids of our friends traveling with us to get signed. I hate autograph books--much rather get something useful signed. looks like no autographs for us at all.....

This kind of sucks. At the same time, I'm glad I didn't buy the photo mats at Michaels the other day...

If DCL was smart, and we know they are, they'll start selling pre-signed "Autographed" items in the shops onboard the ships! Photo mats in different sizes, plates, t-shirts, etc. lol

Just saw this in DTD tonight. My guess is that something similar will be on board soon enough.

I really think that I saw this on the Fantasy in June/July. I couldn't find a picture of it online anywhere. I didn't buy one because we already had a mat to be signed.

Bummer to see DCL stop doing this. We did a photo matte and I even created my own blank mini-football helmet with a Disney logo sticker on it and had the Fab 5 (plus Daisy and Chip N Dale) sign it for my son. Both look great.

Speaking of which, for an "unofficial perk," the DCL staff certainly took it seriously. When you dropped your item off at the front desk, they gave you a character request form to fill out in which you could request "Fab 5," "Princesses," "Everyone", or any combination of characters you would like to sign. The item was then either delivered to your stateroom at the end of the cruise, or you could pick it up at the pursers desk (I can't remember which at this point.) Kudos to the cast members for going the extra mile when they didn't have to.
