No more bringing items to be signed...

On our past cruises we have taken items to be signed and always left some special treats along with a thank you note. All were returned and while some of the items were done better then others I would never have thought to go and yell at guest services as it is reported some people have done. This was a free services that rude and entitled people have ruined for others. I am glad my son is getting older and not as excited to stand in lines during meets cause if DCL doesn't take control of this it is going to be crazy as people get things signed by the characters.

You bought a $60 pillowcase that you can't get a refund for?

Probably it is custom made with cruise date and/or name embroidered on it.

It will be challenging to get pillow case signed at meet and greet. We did t-shirts at WDW once and we only did it at character breakfasts. Yet we still had a hard time making it less of a hassle for the characters to sign. I would try to get it sign at ticketed meet and greets since it should be guaranteed for every family with a ticket. Pixie dust!

You could always take a board and pin the pillow case to it with the area exposed you want signed. This would make it easier for them to sign it while standing up and ensure the right tension on the pillow case

They have already said that the characters on board will only sign autograph books

I don't agree with that. This was a free service that was ruined by forums such as this spreading the word. I'm not saying that this forum is a bad thing at all, but when it gets mentioned in numerous threads how someone had a pillow case, then the next person a picture frame, then an anchor and before you know it someone in concierge is morning their private yacht alongside and asking Mickey to abseil down and sign their hull you can see why it had to stop.

Yes it's custom made with all of our cruise details on it.

If people were yelling at GS over this free extra thing that they don't have to provide then I do understand them stopping it. However before they did maybe they could try lowering the limit to 1 item per cabin instead of 2. Just my 2 cents.

Probably another problem was someone has a one of a kind item and one of the signatures gets messed up. Then what happens.

They have already said that the characters on board will only sign autograph books

Actually someone on another board got an email off DCL which listed a number of inclusions and exclusions beyond an autograph book. It lists as below:

Able to sign:
*Any autograph book
*Disney branded items that are appropriate to that character. For
example, Cinderella would not be able to sign a Buzz Lightyear item.
*Disney stationery
*Disney approved photos - only characters in photo can sign the photo
*Disney notecards
*Disney Dollars - once signed would become souvenirs (no longer legal
tender)
*Clothing - must not be worn when signed

Not able to sign:
*Flags of any nations
*Receipts / banking slips
*Money
*Skin
*Non-Disney merchandise
*Non-family friendly / obscene items

Sorry thought it had been posted over here too but just realised it hadn't been

Wow. DCL costs about 3 times more than the other cruise lines. And the last time I cruised, I felt it was really worth it, b/c it felt how wdw 'used' to be customer service wise and in individual attention to guests. I hope they don't continue to go down the path of becoming more like wdw. :( I don't care how much 'extra' time it takes for characters to sign stuff people bring in, they should be taking care of it for the cost of the fare.

Wow!!!! I don't remember anywhere in the cruise documents that it says you have the right to anything about character signing. The CM/characters have been spending so much of their off time to doing these things and not getting enough rest because of all the other PAID parts of their jobs and then people are complaining that they didn't treat them special the way they used to. Maybe they are too tired to care what you want since everybody seems to think that they should be giving more, more, more. I feel really bad for the way some people treat the CMs onboard to begin with. They are NOT second class citizens just because they have a job caring for people. If you stop and talk to the CMs instead of looking down on them you will learn a lot about some really great people of the world. We have had many interesting conversations with CMs, both at WDW and on our cruises. We will be taking our 9th and 10th DCL cruised in 2016 and feel that it has been well worth the money we spent. We do NOT do FE or character signings except autograph books. We do NOT hold up a line having 20 poses taken with the characters with different poses for each member of the family and then combined group pictures. I have been in plenty of lines where people don't care how long anyone else waits as long as they get what THEY want. The heck with everyone else. It's called a sense of entitlement. No one is entitled to any more than anyone else. :sad2: Cry me a river. My heart bleeds for you on a small violin :charac2:

I think the whole program was getting more and more complicated with folks coming in with all kinds of different and odd items to have signed.

Since they didnt just make it a pay for type service, they stopped it totaly, indicates it likely reached the point where it was just getting to hard to manage.

When I dropped DD's item off with Concierge this week, they stated VERY CLEARLY that the service was over. So, the people who thought that concierge might be above this new policy are probably going to be disappointed. All the hosts did indicate that there would be more meet and greet times available in the future. However, I never found lines to be more than about 5-10 minutes, so I suspect it won't be a big deal to get signatures once they add more groups.

Hmmmm.... wonder if my large Vinylmation (9 inch) would qualify as a "appropriate Disney branded item" that can be signed. I have a character signed Vinylmation from both of our Wonder and Fantasy cruises. I buy them on clearance super cheap (don't care about the theme) and then I paint (airbrush) them a solid color. They make a fun keepsake. I have a very odd crying cheerleader 9 inch Vinylmation that I was going to paint red for the Dream cruise that I have for this New Year's Eve, might still go for it, does not take up much room and is not breakable. It will be interesting to see what people report for the Fall cruises after the ban takes effect.

I don't see why not! Probably one of the more appropriate things and fairly easy to sign too

I also do not have things autographed, or really stand in character lines or do FE. There are many things that make a DCL special and worth the extra cost, and many people this was likely one of them. So yes, I think they should hire more CMs and pay for their time to continue this. Since we are already paying out the nose for a cruise experience. I get upset when I hear about DCL making 'cutbacks' of any kind, even if they don't effect me, and then not lowering cruise fares (instead raising them). It detracts from the special quality of a DCL experience, and I think it's a shame.
