No Longer coming to you Live from Disney World! Take 3 DDW'S TAMBU LOUNGE 8/6

Next in yesterday was another update from Melissa (Kenai1972).

She said, "For dinner on Saturday we headed to...

Bread Service

"For appetizers Greg had the Potato Leek Soup...

"I had the French Onion Soup...

"Greg had Chicken Breast Provençal Pan-seared and simmered in a rustic blend of Heirloom Tomatoes, Olives, White Wine, and fresh Herbs with Seasonal Vegetables and Roasted Fingerling Potatoes for his main."

"I had the Herb-crusted Lamb Rack with a Stone-ground Mustard Demi-glace serve with Buttered Celery Root and Seasonal Vegetables."

"Next up was dessert:

"We shared the Lemon Meringue Cupcake and The "Grey Stuff"

I'm loving all of these pictures! I'm getting so jealous from the Food and Wine booth pics. I can't wait to get there for it again next year!

Then we received an Animal Kingdom update from Kim (Kimmy2Disney).

She said, "We had lunch at Yak and Yeti quick service yesterday."

"We had an order of beef lo mein that was very good!"

"Also an order of honey chicken that wasn't bad, just not my taste -- too sweet!"

"For dessert we had banana puddings that were pretty tasty!"

Kim also sent us an update from their dinner on Saturday at the Grand Floridian's...

"Ali loves this buffet because she likes the Cinderella characters - Joe likes it because they have all you can eat sushi, and the rest of us like it because the food is really good! It can get a bit chaotic in there though, but the drink menu helps with that!"

"She's not sure about this Cinderella!"

"Drizella helping her eat chicken by stabbing with chop sticks."

"Anastasia told her to cover up the Cinderella pic on her shirt, but she moved her hand."

"Some of our plates...

"Strawberry soup- SO good!"

"Our drinks- smokey turkey for Joe and pineapple caipirinha for me."

"They were very strong, but we enjoyed them anyway!"

"Steam pots...

"Asian ribs, potstickers, some salads...

"Sushi, prime rib, tomato mozzarella salad...

"Peel and eat shrimp...

"Everything was good!"

Just a couple more updates from yesterday, one of those from Paula (smile4stamps).

She said, "From the World Showcase we headed for the last time to the...

"We were scheduled for the 6 pm Mixology Seminar."

"We were surprised to learn that "Troy" of Troy & Sons is a female!"

"Chris, the mixologist had everyone scared that he wasn't going to make it for the presentation. Apparently he flew out on a red eye on Saturday and arrived back at MCO at 5:00 pm after running a FULL MARATHON in DC!!"

"Here Troy is showing his medal...

"Chris looked a bit more tired this time than on Friday!"

"Our three drinks...

Moonshine Mimosa

Harvest Moon Margarita

Straight up

"The mixed drinks were very sour for us. I'm not a fan of drinks with a lot of pineapple in it to start and with these the balance just seemed off!"

"This mixology seminar was good. Learned about how Troy & Sons began and what makes her different. I liked the impromptu Breckenridge seminar better ironically though."

Last in yesterday was another update from mousegear.

She said, "We had Via Napoli ADR at 7:00 pm. We also had FP+ for Soarin' and Test Track booked before our ADR. On Test Track, this woman fell into her vehicle while trying to get on and there was a big hold up until CMs got her a wheelchair since she couldn't walk out. Well, we were 15 minutes late to our ADR at...

"Via Napoli was really busy with a pretty long line of walk-ins outside."

"We were seated at a table for four in front of the ovens."

Kids menu...

"Our waiter was Luca and he seemed really busy this night. He forgot to bring us any bread." :(

"The kids shared an individual size Margherita pizza...

(Sorry for the half-eaten pizza. Kids were faster than me.)

"The pizza was excellent. However, the pizza arrived before any of our meals so they were finished by the time our entrees arrived."

"I ordered the Linguini Frutti di Mare and it was very tasty."

"The sauce had some spicy kick to it and all the seafood was fresh. The pasta was cooked to al dente. DS ate lots of my pasta."

"DCousin ordered Candele and thought it was good."

"I tasted it and it was pretty good but mine was definitely better."

"Again, sorry for the little bites of the dishes. It was our first day they were untrained for my pictures of foods." ;)

"We ordered two desserts to be shared among four of us."

The zeppole...

...and the Coppa Di Brutti Ma Buoni (Ugly, but good sundae)."

"The ricotta cheese fritters were excellent. It was warm and light. Both the chocolate and whipped cream went really well with them."

"However, our food runner at first brought our desserts to our table. When we were about to eat them, she came and said that they belonged to the next table. So she took them to the next table and they told her that they didn't order any desserts yet. She brought them back to our table and went back to whatever she was doing without any apology. Luca brought our bill and kept on telling us that 18% is the suggested amount of tip. All throughout our meal, there were no drink refills even though our cups were empty. The food was great but this was one of the worst meals in service."

Barb, I'm having a very hard time keeping up with so many wonderful updates! Makes me so excited.... :)

Yesterday our First Update of the Day was sadly from Paula's (smile4stamps) final meal of their trip which ended on the 28th.

She said, "After our Mixology Seminar we headed for the monorail so we could get to our dinner at...

"This is one of our favorite restaurants along with Citricos so each were visited twice this trip."

"The lounge area was looking mighty bare when we walked in!"

"The bartender said they had 5 people call out for work so they removed the tables."

"View of the lighting and windows...

"The sushi bar...

"We had gone to the bar to get a drink (well Hunter did!) and as soon as we ordered the pager went off again!"

"The menu...

"I don't think it had any changes since earlier in the week."

"Hunter was drinking Rum and Diets tonight. My cold was unfortunately really setting in now so I felt there was no need for us to get wine when I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy it."

"Our first taste of the night came compliments of the Chef."

"It was a Short Rib "sashimi" sliced thin and presented on mushrooms."

"We then received the bread and butter."

"The chefs at work...

"So we ordered an appetizer and an entree, both to share. Our server apparently didn't get that memo as both came out at the same time and the sushi as a result had been sitting for awhile."

"Pork Belly Nigiri and veggie sushi both wrapped with soy paper. Both were delicious! The pork belly one is just phenomenal. Only thing that would have made it better would be having it hot (a server issue not the kitchen!)."

"We then had the Pork two ways...

"The pork belly on this is OMG good!!! So flavorful! The pork loin with the goat cheese polenta...Mmmmmm good! We asked for extra polenta and without asking the chef first she simply said no. Then, "Oh, you mean a SIDE of polenta? Yeah, I can do that."

"We then had Chef Eddie bring us another treat...

"A BEAUTIFUL heirloom tomato treat. The red is very ripe, the yellow in the middle and green were barely ripe and firm. It had a lemon foam and the sliced pear with a pesto (but not your traditional pesto, I just can't remember what made it different). This was wonderful! Very light and refreshing."

"After enjoying the tomatoes we headed outside for HalloWishes. I deliberately scheduled our meals here so that we would have viewings of both the traditional Wishes and HalloWishes. Unfortunately we didn't get very pictures but it was a great view!"

"Upon returning inside we saw this one on the counter...

"Isn't it a spectacular sushi plate?! It wasn't ours though, we just took a picture!"

"Our dessert platter...

"Much the same as the previous visit but with the addition of the banana fritters."

"Here's the dipping sauces for the fritters...

"I thought there was supposed to be some but I didn't notice them sitting on the side of the table till the fritters were almost gone."

"I also had a Hot Toddy...

"And we finished the night with a pic with Chef Eddie...

Be sure to check back tonight for Paula's final thoughts and her point total! :thumbsup2

Our next update from yesterday was sent to us by mousegear.

She said, "On our first full day, we were undecided on our breakfast. I thought we were going to grab something at the Marketplace or Boardwalk Bakery but DS suggested we go visit POR. We've stayed there in the past and we have some fond memories. Since we have a car, it wasn't much of a hassle."

Riverside Mill

"Riverside Mill was very crowded. First we settled kiddos at a table and DCousin and I lined up at different stations. We got a made-to-order omelet, Mickey waffles with strawberries and a Bounty Platter to share among us. Sorry for the lack of pictures. I forgot to take them. All was good and did the job of filling us up. We quickly got back to the Beach Club to enter EPCOT."

1 November Bonus Point Awarded for menu pics

I know it's been said several times, but this is the best thread ever! :goodvibes: I've been having my DP look at it and tell me what pops out at her. It's interesting to see what she picks knowing she has almost no background for any restaurant. Yes, our giant trip is a year and three months away but that's almost NOTHING! Right?

Next in yesterday was this report from our Disneyland reporter, Anne (scanne).

"For dinner we ended up at Disneyland's...

Big Thunder Ranch

"This is very reminiscent of the Hoop De Doo Revue. All you care to eat chicken, ribs, sausage, corn bread, corn, baked beans and cole slaw.
Some pics:

"The time change was really messing with us so by this point we were all starving! It was 7:20 California time but our bodies were still thinking it was 10:20 East coast time. I didn't realize how hungry I was until I took a bite. The food was delicious! The corn bread, chicken and corn on the cob were my favorites. My kids and DH polished off the ribs."

'They had live entertainment as well - not a scripted show like HDDR, but several musical acts and they got the audience involved. The cost was $26.99 per adult and $11.99 per kid. We have premier passes so we also got a 15% discount."

"The best part of this meal was the special dessert. A warm, snicker doodle cookie with pumpkin ice cream and hot caramel sauce. Seriously this was THE BEST DESSERT in my Disney vacation history!!!"

"Here are the components separately:

And then altogether...

"We had an awesome waiter as well who gave us some tips for visiting Southern California. Overall a great experience and great food! We didn't have a reservation either, but I think right now Disneyland is in between their Halloween season and Christmas season so crowds and such haven't been bad."

"Tonight we are having dinner at Ariel's Grotto in California Adventure with a World of Color Dinner Package."

Back to Disney World now for a couple of updates from Bobbie (lilpig), starting with a two-part breakfast update from Animal Kingdom.

We started our day yesterday with a pre-breakfast snack to share from...

"We had the egg white and ham panini it was very yummy!"

"We then had our actual breakfast at...

Tusker House

"I enjoyed everything I had especially the chutneys. Lynda's favorites were the mealie pap and beef bobotie quiche."

8 November Game Points Earned + 3 Bonus Point for pic of Lynda and sign/menu pic

Bobbie then sent another two-part update with Part 1 being a snack update from DHS'...

Starring Rolls Cafe

Banana cake

"I liked the center but found the jelly on top not good and I really didn't like the cake. Lynda liked it but didn't like the cake either."

"We then went to the Beach Club for dinner at...

Cape May Cafe

...and had loads and loads of crab legs."

"Ok not loads and loads but 2 plates. Sorry I am so awful at the picture taking thing."

Next we received Anna's (Pixiedust1983) first updates from Disney World.

She said, "After a 20 hour journey, Emily was still pooped out on Sunday morning!"

"We decided to start the day with toasted bagels and fresh fruit from...

Artist's Palette

1 November Game Point Earned + 1 Bonus Point for pic of Emily

Next Anna said, "For lunch we decided to have something more substantial, and visited Downtown Disney's...

Wolfgang Puck Express

Here's what they had...

"The half rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes. This was very good, although the potatoes were a little bit cold."

"The barbecue chicken pizza was fantastic, so full of flavour and possibly the best pizza in Disney World."

"We finished with a great vanilla creme brûlée."

"As always a great meal here!"

2 November Game Points Earned + 1 Bonus Point for menu

Then last Anna sent a three part update from Magic Kingdom.

She said, "Emily was so well behaved getting her first haircut today in the Harmony barbershop in Magic Kingdom."

"We have a certificate and her hair in a wee keepsake pouch with pixiedust." :)

"Then while Emily was having her bottle, I went to...

...to use a snack credit for a large decaf caramel frappacino."

"Yum, good way to start the day."

"For lunch we went to...

"I had a cheeseburger and fries, dessert was grapes."

"Lee had a pulled pork burger and fries, dessert mango sorbet."

"I liked Lee's burger better than mine. The food was cold so I asked for fresh fries which were better. Lee didn't eat his dessert as it was no sugar added and he is not a fan of artificial sweeteners. Overall just an ok meal."

Wow finally this thread made the Dis Unplugged top 10! I listen every week and hope to hear it, finally it was #10! Up until now the only 2 threads I have read that were ever that popular were Brenda's and Jess's. Yay Barb for keeping this going!

Next in yesterday was this update from Ken (Gastons Truffle Hog).

He said, "For dinner Saturday night, Jackie and I let my in-laws take the kids to Mickeys Backyard BBQ so we enjoyed the evening together. We started with cocktails at Bluezoo. There were 2 bartenders working: one filled glasses to the rim, the other filled them awkwardly low. Very odd. The Zooberry and Serenity (no pics) were both great and refreshing after our long walk (4/5)."

"We then caught a cab to the Animal Kingdom Lodge where we had a drink at the Victoria Falls Lounge which overlooks the entrance to Boma. We decided to stay here on our next trip as we loved the atmosphere. I had the Truffle Stuffed Olive Martini...

...and Jax had a boring Blue Moon which is her safe fall back drink."

"A colleague of mine told me about Double Cross Vodka recently and how they send bottles of seasonal martini garnishes to accompany their orders. Obviously, I've got a thing for truffles and this drink was outstanding (5/5). We even bought 2 extra olives because they were so good."

"We then proceeded downstairs for 8 pm dinner at...

"We were quickly seated at a two top."

"I asked if we could sit at the counter overlooking a kitchen prep area with wood burning ovens, and they accommodated us immediately as the counter was empty. All of the cooks at this station were very friendly and we started talking all about the menu in a lot of detail. One of the cooks had been working at AKL for a year and was heading home in 4 days. Jackie spent a few weeks in college near were he's from so we became instant friends. We let the cooks order our food and wine and everything was outstanding."

"For appetizers we shared the wild boar tenderloin (5/5) and chicken flatbread (4/5)."

"They warned us that he boar portion is quite small but being on DxDP we are consuming a ton, so small, delicious, high quality courses are actually ideal."

"For entrees they selected the filet over Mac and cheese (which they said is one of their classics) and the short rib. The quality, seasoning and temp of the filet itself was great but we felt the dish as a whole was boring and disappointing. The Mac and cheese was not memorable whatsoever and neither of us felt this represented African cuisine well (3/5). The short rib on the other hand had great flavors and was perfectly braised to ultimate tenderness (4/5)." (no entree pics received)

"For dessert they strongly recommended the Chocolate and Tea Safari and Milk Tart."

"Both were very good, but neither was memorable (3/5)."

"Our server strongly recommended a wine which I believe was an interesting blend of cab, merlot, petit verdot and chenin blanc. We enjoyed it (3/5) and felt like for price it delivered decent value. We heard him recommend it to every single one of his tables around us as well so it must do well for him."

"Overall, we loved our experience at Jiko. The food and wine was great, but ultimately it was the hospitality of their entire staff that won us over."
