No Longer coming to you Live from Disney World! Take 3 DDW'S TAMBU LOUNGE 8/6

Next another of of Jeri's (jerseytinkerbell) final updates.

She said, "Dinner Friday night was at...

"A few menu pics...

"Rob started with the Steamboat Pale Ale...

and I had a Peach Iced Tea."

"We got the chicken nachos to start...

"These were actually pretty good! We ate the whole thing."

"Then Rob got the Hickory Bacon Burger and added onions to it."

"I got the chicken quesadillas."

"Overall a good meal. Not the most exciting thing ever but it was what we were in the mood for and we were trying to make a movie in time at DTD so it worked out eating at the hotel."

Just as an FYI, there has been quite the discussion about this over on the POR FAQ thread on the resort boards. It appears that some of the bedspreads have disappeared and some rooms still have them. :confused3 One possible rumor is that they are turning the bedspreads into runners for the ends of the beds like they did over at Sports. In the meantime, those without the spreads look so blah!

Thank-you everyone for the fabulous updates! Getting some good ideas for next years vacation.::yes::

I've read that many hotels are getting rid of comforters, since most people don't use them/throw them on the floor, etc. The all white look with just a coverlet at the end is supposed to be very high-end. :confused3 I do think the beds look a bit naked without something on them. I like the idea of having them as a 'runner' at the end.

I'm such a long-time lurker on the live thread. LOVE seeing all the food! These threads made it so much easier (and harder if you know what I mean!) to make my ADRs. Can't wait until January!

Now back to Paula (smile4stamps) for some more F&W Fest and other Epcot updates.

"After the culinary demo we headed back to the food booths! This time starting the other way with...

"We ordered three of the items we had greatly enjoyed last year. Unfortunately this year they had all been sitting under the warmer for awhile and you could tell."

"First was the Spanakopita...

"The flavors were good but it was "chewy".

"The griddled cheese wasn't warm at all so was just meh."

"The chicken gyro was good but again not warm so could have been great!"

"Next we went to...

"Unfortunately the trout had the same issue as Greece."

"It wasn't warm at all. The skin was soggy and just didn't have much flavor."

"Instead of hitting more booths we decided to head inside the pub in the UK."

"We ordered at the bar and were given this sign for the table."

"I ordered the Scotch Egg, as I had always wanted to try it."

"I thought it was interesting but not something I am clamoring to have again!"

"Hunter wanted the fish and chips."

"Thankfully he shared a few bites with me as it was very good! This is something I would definitely have again!"

"Here are some pics of the pub from our table."

"We ended up sharing our table with a couple from Florida and had a nice conversation while we enjoyed our food and drinks!"

Paula & Hunter then continued their snacking around World Showcase.

She said, "After leaving the UK we crossed the bridge and into France again."

"We once again got the Beouf Bouriguignon."

"The beef was good again!"

"And the plants outside the booths are always interesting."

"Then we moved to Italy for some more...

...and also to this booth in Germany."

"Hunter got 2 shots of the Barenjager and I got my apple shot."

"They also brought out fresh pretzels while we were in line so Hunter had to get one!"

"And we got to see the drawbridge up...

One more update from Paula...

She said, "Then next on Wednesday was our last Culinary Demonstration. Unfortunately it was also our worst one."

"The wine part of the presentation took longer than the culinary part."

"For our other demos they would bring the food out while the presenter was still cooking. This time he made the dish so fast and it was so simple we were left waiting."

"As Hunter would say, it was drunk college food. It took all of 5 minutes and we paid for a 45 minute demo."

Next in yesterday was the two-part final update from Amanda (MissPrice). :worried:

Part 1 was from their lunch on Friday at Magic Kingdom's...

Tony's Town Square

Amanda said, "Our last meal in the World was at Tony's. Again another walk-up.

"Tanya had spaghetti and meatballs."

"She said it was a bit bland."

"I had the eggplant parmesan..

Eggplant Catasta (Stack) - Layers of Eggplant, Caramelized Onions, fresh Mozzarella, and Parmesan with Marinara Sauce over Penne Pasta

"It was tasty. The eggplant was nicely cooked and not too greasy."

Then Amanda's very last update was a snack one from DHS.

"Turkey leg rice krispie snack...Yummy!"

And since that was Amanda's final update, it's now time to say...

Thanks so much for being a Live Reporter... Good Job!!! :thanks:

Next in yesterday was an update from Gisèle (Arielle71).

She said, "Last night's dinner was at...

"We shared the Dynamite Shrimp Dip for the first time...

"It was very good and spicy."

"Then we had our usuals, Rainforst Burger for DH...

...and 1/2 rack of Mojo Bones for me."

"We were too full for dessert!"

Thanks for checking in DDW, but sorry to hear you're not feeling well. :worried: Don't go away just yet though, as coming up shortly is another one of Gisèle's great reports from a F & W Festival dinner that you might be interested in. ;)
Now I see the event you were referring to - it looks like a fantastic meal at Jiko. :thumbsup2 I especially love the sound of the halibut, the pineapple-cardamom-green tea granita, and the dessert. The gift box at the end also looks great - I spy a macaron in there. ;)

On another note, it's so exciting that the big Dining Reviewer meet is coming up soon! :goodvibes I'm thinking ahead because it means the Live Thread might not be continuing beyond that. I'll definitely miss this thread, but the possibility of no more Live Thread has got me thinking about my next WDW dining report (that's right, I'll have to start a new report). :)

I actually just wrote the introduction (even though the trip isn't official!). What can I say - I'm feeling inspired right now. One thing's for sure - this report will be unlike anything you've seen from me before.

Hi Mr. DDW! Sorry you have a cold! I hope you feel better soon.

You were definitely the inspiration for the Cove Bar! I think of you whenever I go there.
Thanks so much! I'm definitely starting to feel better. :) And I'm glad to hear that about Cove Bar! It would be so cool to meet up there if we make it back to Disneyland. :thumbsup2

Then we received another an update from Becky (BlovesC) & Charlie from their anniversary dinner at...

Flying Fish Cafe

"Not really many changes to the menu since our last visit but that was fine with us!"

"Our server offered us champagne for our anniversary...another nice gesture but I'm not really a fan and once today was enough. Well, this is the look Charlie gave me when I started saying "oh no, thank you though."

"Today's bread was potato...

...pretty good but it was served with what we call "Narcoossee's butter" (aka ice cold! Doh!)"

"And we got a lovely amuse bouche...

...a spicy gazpacho, which was delicious!"

"I started with the tuna tartare and sushi appetizer."

"It was perfection, literally a flavor explosion in my mouth!"

"Charlie chose the calamari and shrimp and loved it."

"I thought the breading and dipping sauce were superb!"

"And he also got this...

Pumpkin Spice Martini. Ridiculous. A little strong for me, but wow, unexpectedly great!"

"This is the seasonal cocktails menu...

"They all sound so good!"

"For my entree I wanted the exact same thing I had last time...

...the Char-crusted steak! I am a char fiend, even poultry and fish I grill until it's pitch black and would make a chef weep. So I love this steak, and that absurdly rich sauce foyot! This is definitely a FOOD WALL meal. Like the pineapple pancakes at Kona, no one can finish the entire plate!"

"Charlie chose the tuna, which he said was "melt in your mouth good"...high praise!"

"He loved the egg too because a perfect poached egg can be difficult and this one was so much better than the ones we make at home."

"I chose our server's favorite, the chocolate mousse."

"I knew it would be painfully rich but it was SO decadent and the sorbet was a super dark chocolate that helped alleviate the sweetness a bit. Loved it! Charlie took a bite and the bitterness of the sorbet nearly knocked him over...he is not a fan of dark chocolate. I HAD warned him!" ;)

"Charlie chose the bread pudding."

"Our server said it's made with cinnamon rolls from the bakery! It was packed with delicious apple chunks and was just warm and tasty."

"We had put off going back to Flying Fish for awhile because our first meal there had been so perfect we thought future visits would surely be let downs...not so! This was another fantastic meal and Flying Fish remains our favorite signature, leaps and bounds ahead of even our second favorites! And like last time, wonderful service! This was the best possible place for our anniversary meal!"

Next we have a couple more updates from Gisèle (Arielle71), the first of which is a two-part update from Animal Kingdom.

She said, "Today we had lunch at...

"I had fried rice and egg rolls."

"They were good but not exceptional."

"DH had the Asian chicken sandwich and loved it."

"And then an afternoon snack at Rafiki's Planet Watch...

4 October Game Points Earned + 1 Bonus Point for sign

Then Gisèle and her DH had dinner last night at Epcot's...

"We shared the salami and provolone...

...plus the arancini."

"DH had the red wine flight...

...and I had a red sangria."

"And then the piccante pizza that I almost forgot to photograph."

"And to finish...

...the zeppole."

"Great dinner!"

And that just leaves Jeri's (jerseytinkerbell) final update and trip synopsis.

She said, "This morning we packed up the car and drove over to AKL for breakfast at...

"My first plate...

"Banana macadamia nut muffin, chocolate chip muffin, apple pocket, blueberry muffin, roasted tomato and ham."

"My second plate...

"M&M pancake, bread pudding with pecan sauce, turkey bobotie, breakfast potatoes and bacon."

"Rob's omelette of everything but green peppers and jalapeno."

"Rob's plate...

"Ham with mustard sauce, scrambled eggs with goat cheese and bread pudding with pecan sauce."

"Coffee and juice...

"Everything here was fantastic! This was our first time here for the breakfast buffet and this might become a last day tradition. Our waitress here was fantastic too! Now it's time to make the 15 hour drive back to NJ."

And now for Jeri & Rob's synopsis of their 17 day trip, which sadly came to an end yesterday.

First regarding the food...

Jeri said, "We had a great food experience this trip. Here's an overview of our 17 days. First the bad. I wouldn't even say bad, just disappointing. Be Our Guest, Olivia's and Disney desserts were disappointing this trip. Disney needs to step it up with the desserts. Everything LOOKS great, but very few things taste amazing or bring a unique flavor."

"Now on to the good!"

"We found a few great new spots this trip with Paradiso 37 for drinks, Beaches and Cream, Captain's Grille for dinner and Trail's End for breakfast. We will definitely return to all these places!"

"Overall Rob's favorite meal of the trip was dinner at Captain's Grille. My favorite was dinner at Jiko. We also enjoyed rediscovering Raglan Road.
WPE, Crystal Palace and Ghirardelli were favorites that didn't disappoint."

"As far as F&W, my favorites were the escargot from France, the lobster roll from Hops & Barley, the cheese selection from Ireland, the taco de ribeye from Mexico and the rainbow trout from Canada. And for the drinks my favorite was the grapefruit beer."

"Rob's F&W favorites were the berbere beef from Africa, the filet mignon from Canada, the garlic shrimp from Australia and the beef skewer from Argentina. For drinks his favorite was actually the sparking pomegranate Kir from France."

"I was thrilled with our F&W experience and it will be hard to come back during a different time of year."

Jeri & Rob stayed at 4 different resorts during their 17 days...Pop, OKW, BLT and BWV. I asked Jeri which of these was their favorite and why.

Her reply, "We liked Bay Lake Tower the best with Boardwalk a close second. I loved the sleek modern feel there. I also loved being able to walk to MK. Our room at BLT was gorgeous with a lot of small convenient touches. I love the atmosphere and the ability to walk to Epcot and HS at BWV but I didn't care for our room there at all."

"As far as Pop...it serves its purpose, but I'm spoiled rotten by the villas. I was soooo happy to get to OKW. It was our first time at OKW and that was really nice too. It was the largest studio we stayed in."

And since Jeri & Rob saw 7 movies at Downtown Disney during their trip, I also asked her which of these was their favorite.

Her reply, "Gravity and Prisoners were the best movies." :thumbsup2

Jeri added, "I am so thrilled that I got to share this experience with everyone on the live thread. It was a lot of fun! I will start on my DR as soon as I get settled at home. I'll leave you with a picture of Rob and I enjoying our time at F&W."

Our First Update of the Day was sent to us by an unexpected volunteer, Vicki (vikkii19).

She said, "I've done a couple of live updates in the past. We just got here last night and thought I would send you our food pics. This is also our 2 1/2 year old daughter Lia's first trip."

"We arrived at 8pm last night and had a very late dinner at the Contemporary's...

Contempo Cafe

"DH had the half rack of BBQ pork ribs with fries and coleslaw."

"He said it was alright coming from a CS place."

"I had the mahi mahi sandwich with chips (this is with the top bun removed)."

"I had this last time and I still really enjoyed it. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauces and spices give it just a little kick."

"For desserts we had a red velvet cupcake, which we've yet to eat and is in our fridge. And we all ate the chocolate worms in the dirt."

"It's basically a brownie with crumbled chocolate with gummy worms on top and then it also had chocolate ganache in it. Very chocolaty, but not too bad."

"DD and DH getting ready to dig in."
