I get that folks that need baby items like diapers and formula have to bring those items. I also get that someone who needs a scooter will have to procure one.
I don't think most folks intuitively know they will not be given a lid and straw when they order a drink at WDW.
Just to add, it's not clear to me exactly when this will become policy at WDW.

The thing is that for the everyday non disabled person this isn't an actual problem. It's an inconvenience. You have options to reduce that inconvenience.

My option will be to ask for a straw and lid. If they don't have one to offer me, I will have them keep the drink and take it off of my bill.

(I do use a my scooter while at Disney. Carrying a cup of soda in my cup holder without a lid isn't an option.)

Yeah and the people that bought coffee from McDonalds that spilled it on themselves and won a Multi-Million dollar lawsuit because the cup didn't say hot on it knew that coffee would be hot but they still won the case.

That may be the best solution for us, too.
Lids provide a degree of stability to cheap paper cups. Without a lid, the cup sides tend to "smoosh". I'm not looking forward to the much stickier tables, floors and sidewalks as guests accidentally spill their lid-less drinks here and there.

Build in a lot of extra time at QS restaurants then, because most places have you order/pay at one place and pick up your food at another. Getting something refunded will take a manager.

From all reports, it already is policy at some of the restaurants at WDW, and also from all accounts even though Disney made it sound like something would be provided if needed, so far the only reports are that if the restaurant isn't giving them out, generally they have not been able to get one when requested, even for kids and there was a poster who had a member in their party with a disability and they were still told they didn't give them out anymore/they didn't provide anything etc.

WE decide to go to Disney when we do with the group makeups that we have. It is up to US to make sure we have everything we need to make our trips successful. That means for our babies, toddlers, teens and special family members ... WE are responsible. If you need it, bring it.

YES, I have a disabled family member and NO I will not ask for special treatment in this situation. If he is being handed the lid and cup, he will be sitting at a table with others looking/staring at him/us as to why he got one and they didn't. Nope, I will bring whatever we need for successful trips. There are lots of options and I'm not going to get upset about something completely in my control.

Absolutely! I know my crowd, and I know what the members of my party may need for the day. It is on us to plan accordingly, pack accordingly, or plan to pay accordingly. It is not as if a straw and lid are mythical contraptions that only exist in the confines of Disney. They are available for purchase, as are reusable cups/ lids/ straws.

I agree that it may not be as clear to people that these items may not be supplied. I am not up for a debate about the necessity of a diaper or scooter vs. the necessity of a straw/ lid because I do understand that for some, the importance is equal.

A straw or lid is not physically required for the consumption of a beverage and other solutions are readily available (bring your own lidded straw cup, do not carry around a beverage and instead stay in one place until it is consumed, drink only at places that have bottled drinks, or vote with your dollars and do not order soft drinks at all- these have all been suggested on this thread). If you require a scooter to move from one place in the park to another, and you choose not to bring one, there are not many alternatives available (sit in one place all day/ pay to rent an alternate means of mobility, but neither of those put the burden on Disney to supply anyone with anything). The issue for me isn't the intuition, it's the number of available workarounds.

From all the reports on here and various blogs and social media ............. it it Disney's policy now BUT I imagine, based on the inconsistency, we will see some locations still offering because I am sure Disney will use up their current supply until they are gone. Some restaurants will have more, some less and each time some turns up in a storage room it will go somewhere.

There is just no way to make sure everyone is informed ......... look how many people show up to parks not knowing about FP+ or that it is free. Hopefully Disney has some reasonable souvenir sipper cups available to purchase. If you don't want that - the bottled drinks will work. I think the folks with the biggest issue will be those on the Dining Plan since the drink is included at QS ... but after day one they will know to bring their refillable mugs to use at parks. Lots of options.

People keep mentioning the mess, as it is inevitable. I hadn't noticed the Animal Kingdom as having puddles and puddles of pop everywhere. So either they are keeping it clean, or people are not really that klutzy.

Yep, I have a "food allergy." In quotes because I have Celiac disease, which isn't an allergy, but rather an autoimmune disease.

My food is generally made by a manager and then brought out to me by a manager.

For everyone that is preaching that it's totally within Disney's right to not supply certain things, well of course it is, but by that logic heck we shouldn't even expect them to supply the cup, or a plate, or forks. I guess you'd be perfectly accepting of Disney slapping your food down right on the tray/table or discontinuing the supply of forks. You paid for the food, so you got what you paid for

Give me a break a lid/straw is expected when you order a drink at a quick service location no matter where you are; Disney or Mcdonalds...it's the same process.

Maybe not for long. Disney is not alone on this one. And Disney did open a park without offering paper straws or lids, and that seems to be going just fine.

Tray, smay. Hold out your hands. Better cup them together or you will lose your fries. Just pray they aren't too hot.

Or better yet, carry your own plate. And fork. And napkins. You don't pay for Disney to supply that, just your food.

Well, other than the ones for people that don't want to pay for the reusable cup. But who wouldn't, right. Because it is good for the earth. Reusable bags, straws and now Disney cups.

Animal Kingdom had lids and paper straws though.

Like I said, I don't care about lids at counter service where I'm going to sit and eat.

I do care when it's a Starbucks drink that in all reality is meant to walk around the park with. Hopefully Starbucks just uses their new sippy lids.

This has occurred to me more than once. Then again, I waited for 20 minutes behind someone trying to figure out how to use the Freestyle machine and I can only imagine how those complaints would go doing so at a park.
