Some one mentioned in another thread that there's no such thing as a July use year...which makes me wonder what use years are available?

Use Years are February, March, April, June, August, September, October and December. There are none for January, May, July or November.

Okay, maybe a dumb question, but why don't they have use years for those months?

I don't think anyone knows. I've never seen a plausible explanation for having 8 use years that are not evenly spread throughout the year. I can see having several use years but why not every other month or quarterly. I think they started with Feb because they couldn't count on getting things done to open for 1 Jan.

I think one reason for not having a January Use Year is due to the program's termination date: Jan 31, 2042 (or Jan 31, 2054 for SSR).

They might have been thinking ahead. Using the original termination date for OKW as 2042, then with no January Use Year, everybody's last allocation of points will be in their 2041 Use Year. No one will receive any 2042 UY points at all. Just think of the problems involved if there was a January Use Year, so people with a January UY received 2042 points while everybody else didn't.

So that's a possible explanation.

Why only 8 total, and why the specific 8 they selected, well, that's anybody's guess.

I've always wondered if the number 8 had to do with their computer processing systems that were planned and being developed at the time. Computers are binary systems, thus they work on powers of 2: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 .....etc. Obviously if construction started as early as 1991, then planning was in the mid to late 1980's, and back in those days, computer speed and storage capacity was nowhere near what we have today and so might have been a contributing factor to only having 8 Use Year months.

OK, enough, guess it's time to take off the geek hat and return to the 21st century (Which actually started on Jan 1st, 2001, not on Jan 1st, 2000 as many people still mistakenly think)........ :hourglass

Feung Shei (sp) from the Vacation Magic on the article for Disneyland Hong Kong says 8's are great. Just my guess.

I figured since it is once per quarter, there was some sort of settlement/balancing/whatever that was running in those early 90s programs...for what specifically, I have no idea.

there is two use years for every quarter
in the first three months no january
in the second quarter no may
in the third quarter no july
in the fourth quarter no november

I realize that everyone's vacation patterns may differ so preference for Use Year is probably individualized, but is there a "hot" use year month that is preferred by many and/or most? I only had a choice of 2 and went with September. It didn't really matter to me because my vacations are not consistent year to year.
