My daughter, 10 year old grand daughter and I are wanting to go on a 7-9 day vacation in June. Not bragging but stating a fact that we have been on five Disney cruises, to Disney World in Florida too many times to count and Disneyland in California at least 4 times, Busch Gardens in Florida and Virginia and Florida and want to go to some different preferably child friendly place either within driving distance (we live in Georgia) or we could fly. Also we need to go someplace with public transportation because neither of the adults care for driving in traffic. Suggestions, please.....

How far are you willing to drive? DC is within a days drive. You could do a mountain retreat, but you'd have to be willing to drive. My first thought was New Orleans, but I don't now how child friendly it is. ;)

A non-Disney cruise. DS #2 was 9 when we did the first one and he loved it! We did an RCCL and there was lots to do. Another suggestion would be an all-inclusive resort. Our family really likes the Iberostar resorts. We've stayed in several and never been disappointed.

Any large city would give you the transportation you are looking for. You could do Boston, NYC, or similar sized cities. If you are willing to go International, I think London is great with kids. I took my older son when he was 5 and it was one of our favorite trips. There were so many things for the whole family to enjoy. You could also look for a resort town where things are in walking distance. Bar Harbor is close to me and you could definitely do most things by walking to them.

Have fun picking your vacation! It is always my favorite part of the planning process. Because anywhere is a possibility at that point.

Gatlinburg wouldn't be too far. Lots to do there.

I want to do a mountain trip to North Carolina. Lots of driving though. I want to do Gem Mountain, some hiking, and the zoo in Ashboro (I think. It might be Ashville.).

DC, NYC, Boston all offer public transportation and offer great cities for visits. So much to see and do and in NYC you could go see the new Aladdin musical or Lion King is touring in DC most of the summer.

Lots of fun (many free) things to do in STL, but poor public transportation.
